Chapter 1

"This… is our world?"

"Yep."

"Such beauty! Such… wonder! H—how have I never…?"

"That's why it's good to get out once in a while. Sometimes you don't realize that the world around you is so full of surprises. The next one could be just around the corner for all we know." explained the little fairy elf.

"You are right."

"Stop humming and chiming like that. It's 3AM. Why are you here?"

"It means I failed again."

A confused look crosses her face "Again? I don't understand. This is the first time that I see you here."

"I have reached this point three times now." I replied as I start counting off fingers. "Twice. I've died two times already and this is the third time I ended up here."

"Dead? Why don't I remember it then?"

I don't respond.

"For somebody who seen me thrice now, you are really ignoring me."

"Well I simply know you are here. I can't see you."

"You can't see me? I—"

"I don't have the answers to that." I interrupted her quickly. "You exist within me. Every human has a version of you, in fact. You represent a primal emotion for us."

"You talk big. What has this curiosity paid you in the long run?" she smirked.

"A piece of metal I guess. For someone who prides themselves on working with logic, I seem to be navigating a lot of uncertainty, don’t I?"

"You are an imbecile. I know how you are treating that poor—"

"Oh shut up! What would you know about patience? To explore is beautiful and not everything has to be charted. You know me, I stay with the float and steer my boat."

"You got to look out though. You can't simply go on with this raft into this river. I think the river cascades, not very far from here."

"Fair. Once those rapids come by, I'll either have you failed again or we will be on a different stream. Until then my raft shall stand test if it can form a foundation for a good boat." I looked at her, she was not pleased. "Am I wrong?"

"Works both ways. Those trees can help you build a strong boat, but they also need a sturdy sailor. Wouldn’t you agree?"

"Well then I think both I and the trees need to work together without worrying about success, yes? But the trees are too far from the coast right now. How am I supposed to wave back to the forest keeper over there?"

"That's your struggle. Fail one more time, and you may not find me again.” She stood up as she looked at me sternly.

"Okay. Give me your hand." I said, standing up as well. "Let's start with a small wave. I'm still figuring it out, so will you bear with me until then?"

"What if the keeper goes away before you can reach there?"

"Then we are both taking a risk then!"

"Well at the very least you are brave now."

She smiled at me and I smiled back.
