EXT. BACK YARD-NIGHT

March 28, 2020-Kansas

Missy Walters sits outside, peering through a large telescope. On a table next to her are maps and drawings of nearby constellations with projections of all the comets she hopes to see pass Earth.

Vast…

Endless…

The Final Frontier…

All things used to describe space. A place that has always felt like home to Missy but fears she’ll never make it that far in her current lifetime.

Her phone rings. She sees it’s her dad calling her. So she ignores it and goes back to envisioning herself traveling the cosmos.

Her phone rings again. Sighing, she pulls it out and sees a text in big bold letters from her dad…

DAD: (text) URGENT. LAB. NOW.

Rolling her eyes, she slams her pen down and places the notebook from her lap on top of the pile of maps. She grabs her keys and heads out to her car.

MISSY: Not even a day off for my birthday, how kind.

Her face turns red, almost matching the shade of her hair, and her blue eyes fall heavy. It wasn’t the first time her dad has put his career above her. It sure won’t be the last.
