“It’s time for bed. Scoot over,” he demands.

I huff, sitting myself up. “No. This gun conversation isn’t over.”

His jaw clenches and I swallow. Clearly he’s not used to people refusing him. Which makes sense. He’s a fucking gangster—an escaped convict.

“Move. Over.” This time he stamps his fists into the bed, meeting me eye to eye.

“No,” I reply softly and much weaker than I intend. “I’m not sleeping next to you. I hardly even know you.”

Brandon gets so close now that I feel his breath on my eyelashes, heavily scented from my mint toothpaste he borrowed.

But even though my heart is beating a million times a minute, I add, “If you want me to scoot over, you’ll have to make me.”

He dons a smirk. “I thought you’d never ask, princess.”

As his hands catch me at the waist, I stifle the urge to scream.
