Chapter 1

Why do I ask for perfection for myself? With how my family makes such a big deal out of me there must be something special about me.But just what it is I am unsure really. How they keep looking at me makes me afraid to do anything wrong.

It is like those eyes follow me at all times. When I disobey, the way they look at me make me want to go back and do what I was supposed to do. Those eyes are trouble The ones that say our girl isn’t like that. It seems like they know me more than I do.

This is why what happened to me isn’t a bisg surprise. Look around, come closer and listen to the story I am about to tell.Hello, I am Susan Mcgee. It all started with a hole in my pants. I know that isn’t a big deal. It happens all the time.

This one spread. The next thing I know the whole pant leg was gone. “You better stop wearing those pants Susan” My mother said, pointing out my leg. I changed them and they started to develop a hole in the same spot.

It was odd, but not as odd as the day I woke up and noticed that my whole leg was missing! I started to scream at the top of my lungs. My heart lept in my chest like it was trying to be a gymnast. My mother ran into the room as she heard the ruckus. “Whatever is the matter Susan!?” I pointed out where my leg was. My mother looked over it giving a little tisk.

“It’s a hole in your pants, nothing to scream about.” My leg disappears and all she notices is a hole in my pants! It got worse from there. My limbs started to vanish, seeming to stem from one persistent hole that I got in my clothes. Whenever I pointed out what happened my mother had the same reaction so I just kind of gave up on anyone in my family seeing this phenomenon.

All I was now is a floating head and nobody has noticed. Not even anybody at school! I am afraid of what will happen once I am nothing at all. Just where will I go? Well my question was answered the next morning. I woke up to look in the mirror and there was no reflection. Still the world seemed oblivious to my plight. How can you not notice an invisable person? Unless this whole thing was in my mind of course.

The days went by pretty normally though I was getting sick of not being able to see myself. I sat at recess alone not feeling much in the mood for playing when someone had the nerve to sit on me! “Excuse me, but I am sitting here!”

He jumped off staring at the bench scratching at his head. “A talking bench?”

I blinked. After all this time someone couldn’t see me. It seemed that this whole thing wasn’t just in my mind. Though knowing this made me wonder about the behavior of everyone else. How come they could see me, but this guy couldn’t? It was all very strange. All thoughts aside I was thrilled to find someone who had enough sense to see me as I was. “No, I am a girl. My name is Susan”

“Either that is a girl bench or an invisible girl named Susan.” Ha, Ha what a funny guy.

“I been this way three days now and nobody has noticed!” Yes, I was a little bit irritated at this fact. I thought someone would be able to notice the truth a little sooner than that. When the day came it was some guy I didn’t even know making cracks at me. Though I must admit I was really happy to meet him.

He frowned. “Wow you deserve more than that. I sure would like to see you. I never met a talking bench before.”

I rolled my eyes. The boy then started to jump up and down waving his hands around in the air like some sort of cheerleader or something. Pointing out my face he grinned and clapped like he was someone important for seeing what he was seeing.. “Hey now, I see your eyes! Your rolling them at me!”

I blushed, then it deepened knowing he might see my face. “I am sorry, but your jokes are not what I am used to. I am not used to people making a big deal about seeing me either.”

He grinned. “Eh, I just like to make people laugh. People should try to see you! Nobody really listens to me it is nice to have someone who doesn’t just brush me away when I come near.”

As me and my new friend chatted, I became whole.

I would never let this happen again. Even though my family might not see me, I won’t lose sight of myself.
