Love as Anchor, Love as Ruin
"At its heart, this is a story about the kind of love that steadies. And the kind that undoes. There is something deeply reminiscent, in the best possible way, of "Kristin Lavransdatter" (Sigrid Undset) in this story. From the outset, Sigrid evokes that same kind of heroine: sensitive, but wilful; shaped as much by her inner convictions as by the expectations placed upon her. These echoes only deepened the reading experience for me, giving the story a familiar emotional texture. Sigrid is a challenging, headstrong, and deeply flawed protagonist. And this is exactly what makes her compelling. The tension between her desires, particularly her connections to Ragnar and BjĆørn, and the expectations of her parents and society gives her story its emotional weight. Like Kristin, she is forced to navigate love, reputation, and consequence all at once. What stands out most is how raw her emotional world feels. Nothing about her is neatly resolved or easily judged, making her choices feel deeply human. The relationships at the centre of the story bring the contrast between restraint and emotional intensity into sharper focus. BjĆørnās love for Sigrid is real, but he is not governed by it in the way Ragnar is. He does not reorganise his entire self around that love. Instead, he follows it, sometimes into imperfect decisions, but ultimately he keeps on getting pulled back by duty and responsibility, guiding him and Sigrid toward a choice that carry its own kind of tragedy. Ragnar, on the other hand, is defined by a love he cannot properly contain. It shapes his choices, his silences, and the way he reacts to the world around him. But there is no balance between desire and duty within him. Only tension between feeling and restraint, and feeling too often wins. His worst decisions are not made out of coldness or indifference, but out of intensity. Out of loving deeply without the structure to carry it well. What makes the story so engaging is that it resists easy alignment. Both men are flawed in different ways, and neither sits comfortably in the role of hero or villain. That moral uncertainty, combined with a consistently well-built plot, is what gives the story its staying power for me. I would 100% recommend š¤"

"Well done, Freda! š„°š„° Youāve created a story that made me completely unable to stop reading for likeā¦ 1.5 hours! š Iāve always loved themes like thisānot heavy kingdom-era stories but ones set somewhere in the past, where girls wear gowns and boys serve the king or become knights. š„° This is definitely one of my favorite tropes, and that alone already earns this story more than 3 stars! The other 2 stars go to the sheer awesomeness of the story itself. happy sigh Believe it or not, Fredaās light writing style really draws me in. The beginning of the first page is just so cute! Itās a meet-cute moment between our ML and FL as kids! From the moment Ragnar was introduced, I just knew heād be an interesting ML, and I wasnāt wrong! I love him, and I love him even more whenever heās jealous! Though, yes, Iāll admit he can be a bit childishā¦ sometimes. But heās still young, so I forgive him for that. Besides, heās cute and handsome, so of course, Iāll forgive him wholeheartedly anyway. šš¤£ But my favorite character is definitely Sigrid! Sheās been a strong-willed character from the very beginning. Her innocence as a kid was both hilarious and endearing, and I just love her spirit! I absolutely adore her, and even now (in chapter 8), the push and pull between her and Ragnar totally makes me grin like a fool! šš One thing Iād like to point out, since the author asked for feedback: I genuinely enjoy the writing. However, I think this story could be even better with some editing! š Itās already amazing, but there are occasional moments where the dialogue punctuation isnāt quite right, which makes it harder to tell whoās speaking. Fixing that would make the story evenn clearer and more polished. šš But aside from punctuation, I wouldnāt change a thing! Great job, Freda! And ugh, I hate her brother! I mean, I HATE him! "

Even when his emotions get the best of him, you understand why he acts the way he does, and it just makes you want to cheer him on. But the real standout for me is Sigrid. Her energy, wit, and determination leap off the page. Even in moments of vulnerability, sheās vibrant and strong, making her the kind of heroine you canāt help but root for.
