Chapter 1
I was shoved into the building with no remorse from my attacker.
Lightly hissing in retaliation, I quickly turn around and spot my older sisters snickering at me.
They continue walking, passing the threshold of our home, laughing and smiling— most likely bragging about their husbands.
My eyes are dull at their interactions, pouting at how they refuse to include me.
Not that it truly bothers me, but twins can't be turned into triplets with a flick of a cat's whiskers.
As much as it hurts my heart, I roll my eyes and stuff my hands into my jean's pockets. I long to have that intimate connection they do, but I'm not a twin, just a sister.
I indifferently smile to myself as I cross over the threshold.
The air conditioning is simply fabulous and just the right temperature on my skin as I come in from the ninety-eight degree weather. I shiver for a moment after I take off my jacket and hang it on my own personal hook by the door. I'm the last hook, meaning the last kit of our family.
The house is rather lively as I come in, mainly due to my twin sisters. They sit on the sofa in the living room to my right, surfing the web on their phones while gossiping.
Just as I pass the open kitchen to reach the carpeted stairs, my oldest sister calls for me: "(Y/N)! You're home?"
Instead of continuing to walk up to my room, I turn and face Zikiess and give her a slight nod.
“What's up?" I ask as I step down from the steps and onto the tiles, disinterested in the conversation all ready.
Zikiess frowns, then suddenly picks up one of the cupcakes from the black, white and gray marble countertop.
I blink, weirded out by the fact I bypassed the delectable treats. My eyes widened in saucers as I glanced down at all the rows and rows of baked goods and took the cupcake from my eldest sister.
Softly peeling the wrapping from the small cake, I take a bite into the flower themed treat. Its fluffy sweetness explodes in my mouth the moment I take a bite. I pause in my venture, savoring the taste, before stuffing another bite into my mouth while moaning about how delicious it is.
I was all ready in a mood today so it was due to my carelessness that I overlooked my sister's baking.
How did I not smell these?! I cry to myself, thankful she called me over.
Before I could grab another, my sister teased, "So.. I take it you like them?" There's a fanged smile across her face as she teased me.
“Like is a strong word." I pause for a moment, thinking. "Let's just say they're.. acceptable."
I don't bother to say another word as I stuff a cupcake into my mouth and snatch another off the countertop. Zikiess laughs softly, her delicate face brightening. She's my eldest sister out of my four siblings and she's also my favorite... Not just because she bakes delicious sweets either!
For some reason, we just get along great, despite the seven year difference we share. Sisters til the end, as the saying goes.
Just before Zikiess can say something, Mom walks in, her high heels clicking with each step on the tiles. Mom comes in wearing dark colors, a black blazer shouldering her back and tight-fitted jeans hanging on her hips. The sunglasses perched on her head near her dark horns gives more volume to her unruly curls, which makes her appear taller than she all ready is.
Zikiess and I turned to Mom, who was all ready walking towards the counter with a raised brow aimed in my direction. I pay it no heed as I enjoy the rest of the treat I shoved into my mouth.
“Ziki, I see you're baking a lot more. For Berez again, I assume, hm?" Mom's bright red lips curve in a smirk.
My eldest sister frowns and begins busying herself with packing away all the extra treats.
“Oh, Mom.. you know how Berez has a sweet tooth," she awkwardly smiles.
Mom swipes a bit of frosting off one of the cupcakes that Zikiess grabs to place in her box and eats the bit of sweetness on her finger.
I ignore the two— one submissive like a newborn baby fox and the other who sensually licks her finger. I revert to my iPhone that's hanging out in my pocket and surf the web, thinking that I would not be included within the conversation.. like always.
Mom's eyes suddenly light up, bestowing a knowing look to Zikiess.
“Oh, don't I know how sweet Berez likes his things..." Mom laughs heartily for a while.
Zikiess’s face falls, and the spark that had been in her eyes disappears.
When she clears up from her hysteria spell, she calls out my name.
"(Y/N), what are you up to nowadays? Oh! You shouldn’t eat that! You should be watching your figure and going to the gym at this time. You won’t be in your twenties forever, young lady.”
When she turns her attention to me, I can't help but pause and falter. Internally, I cringe from the sudden limelight, but in the end my heart swells from her light words.
Yet, I still can’t help the internal rage from building as I watch her throw my extra cupcake in the trash.
That was mine! I snarl internally.
My body reacts on its own accord and turns my head in her direction, my thumb pressing the lock screen button on my phone before putting it into my pocket.
My mother's feline irises sparkle, the dark amber orbs glancing me over with a smile. I could tell from the glimmer in her eyes that she has something planned for me, which is never good.
