Valerie stared blankly at the professor, his voice a distant hum. The sterile white walls of the lecture hall seemed to close in on her, amplifying the weight of her growing despair. Her mind was a whirlwind of worry, each thought more terrifying than the last.
Valerie stared at the tuition fee slip, her heart pounding in her chest. The daunting figure stared back at her, a stark reminder of the financial crisis she was facing. She had used her scholarship money to help her parents in Australia, who were struggling after her father’s recent job loss. The weight of it pressed down on her, a heavy, suffocating burden.
