The sun had began to set within two hours of him preparing for the mayor’s visit to his resturant. He had been waiting for this moment, waiting for his chance to finally shock the mayor with his divine courses. The resturant had been cleared for the day for the special event. All of Alexei’s nerves disappeared the moment he spotted the mayor and his family walk through the door.
Ever since his daughter’s untimely death, Alexei has drove himself into a pile of work and more work. With the police refusing to do any investigation, his little girl’s case went cold. This was against what he stood for; as a chef he has always believed revenge is best served hot. “It’s a pleasure to finally be blessed with your presence mayor, please be seated, remove your coats, and leave them on the hangar by the door. I’ll have your first course with you shortly.” He said to the highly awaited guests.
Within 10 minutes, the first course if the night was served to the family. “These meals will not be on the menu seeing as it is a special occasion. In the spirit of halloween, your meals will be spooky themed The appetizer for the night is simple sausage skewers with a sweet and savory ketchup dipping sauce. Hope you all enjoy.” He glances at the mayor’s daughter and wife. They all took a bite and moaned at the taste. Compliments were thrown at him from everyone at the table. “Where might your son be tonight?” He asked. The mayor checked his watch and shared a worried look with his wife. “Eh who knows. Boys am I right? He’s probably out somewhere breaking a few rules like we all did at our age.” The mayor says letting out a full belly laugh. Alexei stared at him for a minute or two, forgetting the situation at hand. Drops of sweat began to drip from the mayors forehead. “Right, if you’ll excuse me, I’lm be starting on the next course.” The chef said to the family, but mostly to himself.
There were times like these where he realizes how much his daughter kept him grounded. In such a serious time like this, picturing her smile or corny joke kept him collected. As he finished up the next course, he overheard the family speak in hushed tones and worried bursts. Upon walking out, he noticed the fake smiles they all plastered. Hm. Was his cooking bad? He was sure they’d be satisfied by the end of this. “This next one is a special soup that I like to call ‘Dracula’s dinner’.” It was just because it’s red. Nothing too special. He watched them all devour their soups without a second though.
As the night went on he served his guests their food, and they ate it all like pigs without question. Liver and eyeballs was their favorite. The family made comments like, “I know how he did this, he used meatballs”, “he’s so creative”, “maybe he could be our personal chef.” It was time for dessert. But before he went to the kitchen to bring it out, he had something to say.
“I just wanted to thank you all for coming tonight. My daughter would have loved to be here. Seeing as she and your son dated, this would have been a lovely family get together. Although my daughter could not attend. For this last course, I would like you all to cover your eyes with these cloths.” He and the staff covered the family’s eyes and descended into the kitchen to fetch the last course.
With their dessert in front of them, the all grabbed a spoon and scooped up the contents. He watched intently as they all took a bite and grimaced. “I’d like you all to guess what is in front of you. I will give you a hint. It is your family recipe. In fact, all of our courses have been just that. A family recipe.” The mayor began untying his eyes, “what is this shit Alexei-“. As soon as his eyes landed on their dessert, he did nothing but stare. The rest began removing their blindfold and the chef could not help but feel his heart race in his chest before he saw their reactions.
They all began screaming and crying as they gaped at their son’s severed head. The top of his skull was cracked open with his brain. That’s right, he thought while marveling at their devastation. “A child for a child.” He said staring right at the mayor. His wife attempted to look for her phone that was left in her coat. “All of your coats and cell phones have been seized. Do not try to run the doors are all-“ he began to say as one of the children tried to escape, “locked.”
The staff tied everyone up and left the resturant as Alexei requested. “So? What woukd you rate your experience out of 5 stars?” He asked the hysterical family. “I’m asking you, not your son, he clearly cannot answer.” Their screams got louder, the mayor shouted profanities and threats, but it all meant nothing to the chef. He began walking to the kitchen abd turned on all of the stoves. Clutching his daughter’s picture for the last time, he finally felt af peace. “I have avenged you my sweet girl. May we meet again.” The smile on his face was not of sorrow, but of knowing that he would be reunited with his little girl once more.
After he unhooked a glass pipe and lit a match, he looked to the family. “It has been a pleasure serving you all tonight. May you all rot in hell with your good for nothing murderer son.” The resturant was set ablaze and scrotched with not only the need for revenge, but with a man’s love for his daughter.
