Very long chapters but still great
"I think the chapters are quite long, the first few chapters shouldn’t be as long but in general, the story itself is very good. Quite loved it to be honest. What I really like is that Lorena’s time at her old school is quite a popular scenario which we see and/or experience in every day life. I loved it though. Grammar was perfect and language wasn’t complicated or unnecessarily complex. Great story and I’d love to read further. XX Karmen Kay"
Review of Lorena: Coming of Age
"Lorena: Coming of Age has a well-structured story with clear writing, but as I read, I found myself struggling to feel emotionally connected to the characters and their journey. While the plot is present, it lacks the emotional depth needed to truly engage the reader. One major factor that affects engagement is the length of the chapters. They feel overly long, which makes the pacing sluggish. While long chapters can work in a novel if they are filled with tension, emotional beats, or significant developments, in this case, they often feel like extended narratives without enough variation. This can make the story harder to follow, as it becomes easy to lose focus or feel like scenes are dragging. Another issue is over-description and unnecessary wording. At times, the writing explains too much or describes details that don’t add to the story. While vivid writing can enhance a novel, too much detail in the wrong places can slow the pacing and dilute the impact of key moments. Simplifying descriptions and focusing on the most important elements would make the storytelling more engaging. To improve this, shorter, more structured chapters could help maintain engagement. Breaking up long sections into smaller, more focused parts would allow for better flow and give readers natural pauses to digest what’s happening. Additionally, cutting down on excessive descriptions and using more concise, impactful language would improve readability and keep the story moving. Lastly, the book tends to tell rather than show, which distances the reader. Instead of summarizing emotions or events, bringing them to life through vivid descriptions, character actions, and strong dialogue would make the story feel more immersive. That said, the book has potential. With tighter chapter structuring, less over-description, and more emotional depth, it could become a more engaging and memorable read."
