The Girl Called Lux

The Girl called Lux.

I am Lux, the girl with long hair. My hair was so long I could hide behind it.

I am a Dragon, Known to be powerful, strong, but I’m just me…a girl so scared to look people in the eyes.

My parents were killed because of fear. Soldiers stormed our house and killed my Mummy and Daddy. When I heard the door be broken in I knew what was happening, all I could do was hide.

I was taken in by nice people, they were human but, they looked past the fact that I was a Dragon, they were high class as well that surprised me even more.

They gave me lots of love and every time they smiled at me I would always smile back, how I wished that smile was real though.

At parties, I would always get stared at but, I was fine with that now, I could just hide behind my long hair anyway.

I started to hear the people at the parties talk about the black market. They said that there was a high price for Dragons, young ones in fact.

One time I was playing in the snow in the forest next to my house when I was approached by the men that would talk.

They grabbed me and pulled me away from where I was playing, they tried to drag me down the road, I tried to stop them but I was just a little girl, a girl that was shy, that would always hide behind her hair.

I gave up on trying to make them stop, I dropped my hands from his, which were upon my head, and closed my eyes…I then heard a slash and a scream. I opened my eyes again and I no longer felt a hand upon my head.

All the men had stopped dead in their tracks, the man who had been holding onto my hair was clutching his arm as a red liquid travailed it's way down to his hand. I wanted to look over to see who had saved me, I thought that maybe they hadn’t saved me and maybe just heard that Dragons were worth a lot on the black market.

“You would dare to place a hand upon a child,” A rough voice spoke.

That voice I…I know that voice.

“Okay, we're sorry, just let us go!” I heard one of the men speak.

“There is a warrant out for your arrest, I might get in trouble if I kill you,” The rough voice continued, I then heard a click, I think he was putting his sword away. “Now, away with you.”

“Yes, sir.” I heard them move around and then run away.

“Lux,”

“Uncle…” I started as I opened my eyes slowly. “Karr..” I started to move my long hair away from my face, He was kneeling in front of me, holding out a hand to help pull me up.

“Are you okay?” He asked me.

“Umm,” I gave as a reply as I took his hand.

“Still so shy, huh.” My uncle said to me. “Come on I’ll take you home.”

I started to follow but then stopped, I clenched my fists I wanted to shout, I felt so helpless, I don’t want to feel like this. “I don’t want to be shy anymore.” I tried to shout but instead, it came out as a whisper.

“What did you say?” Karr asked in a kind voice as he turned to face me again.

“I don’t want to be shy anymore,” I said a bit more loudly.

“Well, what do you want to do about it?”

I got an idea…I walked over to my uncle, he smiled at me but his smile then faded when he was I was reaching for his sword, he tried to stop me but it was too late. I gripped the sword and sliced through my hair.

Long, beautiful strands fell to the floor, my light blonde hair was mixing in with the snow.

Karr’s face had softened when he saw my hair fell to the ground. “Why did you do that?”

“I don’t want to hide anymore…I won’t hide behind my hair anymore and I don’t want people looking out for me. I want to look after myself.” I said confidently. “I know you’re a teacher uncle, teach me, teach me how to look after myself.”

I am no longer, Lux the girl with long hair, I am now, Lux the girl that shines bright in darkness, the girl that will not give up and never back down.
