Preface
First thing's first, what is a moral panic?
A moral panic is a widespread fear that a group of people or cultural behavior is a threat to the values, interests, or the well-being of society. It is "the process of arousing social concern over an issue", usually perpetuated by moral entrepreneurs and mass media coverage, and exacerbated by politicians and lawmakers. It can give rise to new laws aimed at controlling the community. Moral panics are driven to maintain the status quo rather than challenging and dismantling it.
There have been many moral panics throughout history. The examples of these panics are the following: the Spanish Inquisition, blood libel, the Know Nothing Nativist Party, Witch burnings, the bicycle craze, The Devil's music, comic books, switchblades, mod rockers, McCarthyism, Dungeons and Dragons, Satanism, HIV, youth gangs, school violence, violence and video games, etc.
Some moral panics can become embedded in political discourses, which include concepts such as the MeToo movement, racism, sexism, and terrorism.
What do all these moral panics have in common? Paranoia, prejudice, suspicion, ignorance, and people’s lives being destroyed
In this book, we will talk about this modern-day moral panic known as "wokeness", and how it is compared to the cancel culture of the 1980s known as the Satanic Panic. We will also talk about what are called Social Justice Warriors, better known as wokescolds or progressive ideologues. And we will talk about their counterparts, known as the Anti-SJWs or Anti-Woke, and how they have become the very enemy that they themselves have sworn to destroy. It is to debunk and correct the constant misinformation of many topics and issues spread by these opportunistic grifters on both extreme sides of the spectrum.
