The key to writing Darcy and Riggs’ dynamic was exploring how their hybrid and pure-blood identities create both tension and attraction. Darcy’s status as a witch-wolf hybrid makes her an outsider in both communities, but it’s also what makes her uniquely powerful. Her journey is about embracing both sides of herself rather than trying to fit neatly into one world or the other. Writing her inner voice required balancing confidence in her abilities with vulnerability about never quite belonging.

Riggs was fascinating to write because his rigid worldview and reliance on tech/protocol is completely upended by Darcy. As a pure-blood wolf from a military background, he’s used to clear lines and hierarchies. Darcy challenges everything he thought he knew, forcing him to question his prejudices. His growing attraction to her conflicts with his training and instincts, creating delicious internal tension.

The supernatural elements allowed me to externalize their internal conflicts - magical surges that mirror emotional turbulence, security systems that malfunction when witch meets wolf tech, artifacts that respond to their combined energy. The museum setting provided rich opportunities to blend the mundane and magical.

Sophie was a joy to write as the irreverent best friend who sees right through both Darcy and Riggs’ defenses. Her magical coffee shop serves as neutral ground between the tech and magical worlds, just as Darcy herself bridges that divide.

The challenge was maintaining sexual tension while keeping the focus on how their supernatural natures both attract and repel each other. Their chemistry needed to feel earned rather than instalove, growing from professional respect even as their wolves and magic draw them together.
