School Days

My name is Vinay Singh. I was born on 27 th July 1999 to Sarju Singh and Malti Devi at Karma Lahang village in Aurangabad district in Bihar. I have a brother, whose name is Akshay Thakur. My father is a farmer and mother is a house wife. My brother is a high school drop out student. He has three friends, Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma. My father do

not afford to give study to both of us in private school. So, he sends my brother to government school and me to a private school. I am studying 5 th standard in Primary School Karma Lahang, which is 5km away from my home. I go to school on bicycle.

Today onwards, I have final exams for the academic year. I woke up early in the morning and studying Maithili in my room. Suddenly, I heard someone shouting. So, I eagerly

went near to the window and listen. It is my father, who is shouting to my brother, because he did not come to house last night. He used to roam all the streets, during nights with his friends. After a few minutes, my brother came to my room and take a nap. I think that he was fully drunk and puffed many cigarettes, since his body is emitting a bad smell. I studied for a while and take a bath. And then I went to the school.

School is like remembering and having fun. I like to sit in the last bench along with my two friends, Kishore Gupta, Prathap Singh. We comment on girls, teachers, watch videos in classroom, copy in exams, etc. We have been studying in that school, since 2005. Exams are normal to us. We remember something, copy something and we finally pass. We neither worry nor enjoy about exams. So, I normally enter the exam hall searching for my seat. I found my seat and started searching for beautiful girls in the exam hall. Till now, unluckily in every exam, boys jumbled beside me. But today, surprisingly, a beautiful woman is beside me. I felt very happy for that. In the first half an hour I wrote what I remembered, another half an hour I copied, and the last two hours I just watched her beauty. For the first time, I enjoyed being in an exam hall. Even though for the next four exams only boys jumbled beside me, I have not disappointed because at least I

once sat beside beauty. But, my luck is too strong. For the final exam too, she is beside me. I thanked the god for that. In the exam hall, I wrote what I remembered, I copied and I started

watching her. Today, I dared to talk with her. After completion of the exam, she is going to her house, which is 10km away from my house, in bicycle. In the midway I stopped her and said:

I : I like your beauty. It is so good to my sense.

She : I knew it.

I : Thank you for letting me watch, your beauty.

She : You are funny.

Prathap: Why you have left her, Vinay?

I : What I have to do?

Prathap: Do something, there is no one here.

I : What I have to do?

Prahtap: Do something, this chance won’t come again.

I :Prathap, what I like in her is her beauty, not her. If I liked her, I might had done something to her.

Kishor : What is the difference?

I : If I like her, I have right to do something to her. But, what I like is not her. It is her beauty, which she got by using cosmetics, spending money, time. She did work for that. So, she has right for that. We don’t have to do anything to her beauty.

My friends didn’t get, what I said. They disappointed, about what I have done. After the completion of the exams, we planned to enjoy a lot. We roamed all the streets, went to

the movies, played cricket, travelled on trains, buses, etc. Sometimes, we went for gang fights. Whatever I have done in outdoor, I take care that it should not pass to my home. I am a good actor. I always pretend to be a good son, good student to my family members and my relatives, which most of the persons do. No... Most of the persons have to do. Because, we like our self, but do not love. If we love ourselves, the society dislikes us because it does not think, it follows. We

hate society disliking us. Because, we feel good; when they praise about what we haven’t done, when they feel good about what we haven’t bound to, when they give those which we don’t deserve.

As summer holiday’s goes on, we have good news. It is my brother’s marriage. My parents arranged, since he is getting ruined day to day. My sister-in-law is beautiful and young. In the marriage function, I enjoy a lot with my friends. But mentally, I am worrying. Because, in the hall there are a number of beautiful girls with beautiful dresses, eyes, lips, nape, hair, foot, jewellery, etc. I don’t know, whom to observe and on whose beauty to concentrate.

Prathap: Vinay, he is calling you.

I : Who?

Prathap: Your uncle, Ranghit Singh.

I : Hi! Uncle, what can I do for you?

Ranghit: Come vinay, come and sit here. Who are they? What are you doing, with them?

I : They are my friends. We see the girls.

Ranghit: What do you mean by friends?

I : I need them. So, I be with them.

Ranghit: Then, what is the need to call them friends?

I :Actually, they are not my friends. And, I will never have friends. I am pretending to be a friend to them because I need them to enjoy.

Ranghit : Why you will never have friends?

I : Uncle, in this world the good persons have friends and even the bad ones have friends. But, I am the worst human in the world.

Ranghit : Don’t be silly. You are so good, humble, loyal.

I : Let it be, uncle. I have to see the beauty, uncle.

Ranghit : Okay... Go and enjoy the beauty of the teens, young man.

I : The beauty of the teens, I will remember it uncle.
