Chapter 1 Sabine

Morgathal towered in the distance, a brooding silhouette carved into the jagged mountain like a scar etched deep into the earth. The fortress sprawled across the rocky cliffs, its massive gates forged from iron slabs engraved with fierce, unyielding runes. As they groaned open, the sound reverberated through the air like a warning. Even from afar, the weight of its presence pressed down, exuding an undeniable aura of dominance and raw power.

"Gods..." I muttered under my breath, peeking through the narrow, iron-barred window of the armored carriage. The sight beyond stole what little warmth the journey had left in me. This was where Sienna had hidden herself? Why? The world outside was bleak, a desolate expanse that seemed to devour color and life. The closer the Everguard drew to the fortress gates, the more the landscape seemed to wither into shadow—ashen soil, twisted, skeletal trees, and a sky choked with heavy clouds that blotted out the sun. The air felt suffocating, a thick, oppressive weight pressing down on my chest.

I swallowed hard, my throat dry as I fought off the creeping unease. It had been nearly a year since I last saw her. Sienna, my cousin, my other half, torn away and sent to this cruel place to marry Prince Rakthar. All in the name of maintaining a fragile peace between Ardenfell and Morgathal. The thought still shattered something inside me.

We had been inseparable once, practically raised as sisters. I could still hear the echoes of our laughter in the Castle halls, racing barefoot on the cold stone floors as children. We had shared everything—secrets whispered beneath silken canopies, dreams spun late into the night. Together, we had endured the rigors of our tutors, side by side at the same heavy desks, our ink-stained fingers smudging carefully written lessons. Preparing to find husbands. We had always known our futures were not our own—that marriage would be a matter of politics, not love. But when Sienna was suddenly shipped off, it was like a blade had struck without warning. One day she was at my side, laughing as if we still had years to share, and the next, she was gone. Sent away to forge a desperate alliance, her marriage a final, trembling gambit to secure the loyalty of the Orc clans. To shield us from the storm rising in the north—the Bloodfang Clan.

The Bloodfangs were no mere raiders or restless warriors. They were a scourge, a force of pure devastation sweeping across the land. Their name alone carried terror, whispered in hushed tones around hearths and campfires. Villages razed to the ground, fields left scorched and barren, their banners painted in blood. At their helm stood Vulgrim, the very embodiment of ruthlessness and ambition. He was no ordinary leader; he was a tyrant in waiting, a name that sent chills down the spines of even the bravest soldiers. Vulgrim cared nothing for treaties or peace. He was a conqueror, a warlord whose vision was domination, not compromise.

The tales of his deeds—whole towns laid to waste, orc and human alike kneeling or dying before him—painted a picture of a man who sought not alliances but absolute submission. An unchallenged king, ruling with an iron fist and unrelenting brutality. And the reason why I was in this cursed steel coach.  I had begged and pleaded for this journey, desperate to see Sienna again. My uncle, the king, had relented—barely—but only on the condition that I travel under heavy guard. Twice the normal number of Everguards and this stifling, suffocating steel box of a carriage. A rolling oven on wheels.

Had we encountered even a whisper of danger? No. Not one. Yet every time I asked—no, begged—the knight at the door for a break, for the smallest breath of fresh air, I was met with the same unyielding refusal. Sweat gathered on my brow, a slow, relentless torment as it slid down my temples. Beneath my dress, the thick velvet and silk clung to my skin, trapping the heat like a furnace.

I could feel the trickle of sweat between my breasts, slick and maddening, tracing down my ribs, pooling in the uncomfortable hollow of my corset. My thighs, pressed tightly together, were damp with perspiration, and every movement made the fabric of my skirts stick to me even more. "Gods..." I muttered for what felt like the hundredth time, swiping uselessly at my damp forehead. I had envisioned this reunion differently, imagining myself radiant, composed—like a vision of grace stepping from the carriage.

Instead, I felt like a wilted flower, crushed by the oppressive heat, my beauty reduced to a glistening, sweaty mess. My dark hair, usually so elegant, now clung to my neck in damp strands, and I tugged at my corset, desperate for relief.

Suddenly, the call came from outside: "Halt!" The carriage jerked to a stop, throwing me forward in my seat. Finally! The air around me buzzed with activity, and then I heard it—Sienna's voice, unmistakable and filled with joy. "Sabine!" A smile broke across my flushed face as the door creaked open, and at last, a rush of fresh air met my skin. I barely had time to breathe it in before Sienna threw her arms around me, crushing me in an embrace that stole my breath all over again. "I've missed you sooo much!" Sienna’s voice bubbled with excitement as she pulled me into another tight hug.

Her words spilled out in rapid succession, as if she couldn’t say them fast enough. "How is everyone at home? How are my mother and father? Are they well? How was your journey? Are you tired? Did you eat enough?" She finally paused, stepping back just enough to examine me from head to toe, her eyes narrowing at my sweat-drenched appearance. I laughed despite myself, throwing my arms around her again. "I've missed you more, Sienna! You have no idea how hard it was to convince them to let me come see you. The pleading, the arguing—it was exhausting!" I rolled my eyes dramatically. "And they packed me into that!" I gestured toward the steel-walled carriage that had been my prison for days. "I thought I was going to die in there!"

Sienna giggled, covering her mouth with her hand, though her eyes sparkled with delight. "But you’re here now!" She reached out to brush a stray strand of damp hair from my face, a look of concern flickering briefly before being replaced with her usual exuberance. "And you survived—barely, by the looks of it." "Don’t remind me," I groaned, tugging at the neckline of my dress to let in a little air. "I look like I’ve been dragged through the southern swamps, don’t I?"

"You look beautiful, as always," she said with a smile, though her teasing tone betrayed her. "Just... a little shiny." I swatted at her playfully. "Shiny? I’m glowing with sweat, Sienna. There's a difference." Sienna kept on chatting and I took a minute to take in my surroundings. I felt like I had been transported to a land of giants. Everything was made for creatures more then twice my size. Everything was in earthy tones and shiny metals. The orcs filled the courtyard like living colossi, their massive forms encased in jagged, mismatched armor that seemed designed to amplify their raw, brutal presence.

My face burned as my gaze flitted nervously from one to the next, lingering far too long on things I had no business noticing. Their scarred torsos were bare, muscles rippling beneath rough, weathered skin as they moved with the kind of effortless strength that made the weapons in their hands look like toys. What truly shocked me—left me breathless—was their brazen lack of modesty. The so-called loincloths they wore were nothing more than thin, tattered strips of leather slung low on their hips, leaving little to the imagination.

My eyes betrayed me, flickering downward before I could stop them. The dark fabric hung loosely, revealing heavy, veined lengths that swayed with their movements, unapologetic in their display. Some pressed boldly against the leather, the outlines unmistakable and utterly shameless. Heat crawled up my neck as I wrenched my gaze away, though my thoughts betrayed me, refusing to follow suit.

I gasped, my eyes widening in pure shock as I caught sight of an orc’s member swinging heavily between his legs, thick and impossibly large—easily the size of my forearm, if not larger. The sheer girth alone was mind-boggling, and the sight of it sent a jolt through me, leaving my cheeks blazing hot. My throat tightened, and I coughed, choking on my own surprise as I instinctively looked away, though my gaze kept flickering back.

Sienna turned at the sound, her lips curving into an impish grin as she followed my stunned gaze. "Oh," she said, feigning innocence, her tone lilting with amusement. "Did I not include that in my letters?" "No, you did not!" I hissed, my voice sharp with mortification as I whipped my head around to glare at her, though my eyes betrayed me, darting back to the massive forms moving around us. A little warning would have been nice—a chance to prepare myself for the sight of that. Sienna waved a hand dramatically, her grin only widening. "I guess I’ve just gotten so used to this life now," she said airily, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "I hardly notice anymore."

But I was barely listening.

My attention was glued to the towering orcs around me, their powerful forms commanding every inch of the space. My gaze kept drifting down despite myself, catching glimpses of other massive cocks—thick, veined lengths that swayed heavily as the orcs moved. They seemed impossibly large, almost unreal, and yet there they were, each one a testament to the raw, overwhelming masculinity of the creatures surrounding me. I swallowed hard, feeling the heat rise to my face again. I couldn’t escape them; they were everywhere, enclosing me, larger than life. The air felt thick, and I shifted uncomfortably, wishing I could will away the flush spreading across my skin. Someone cleared their throat above me. I turned and looked up, a long way up, meeting dark glittering eyes.

He loomed before me like a living monument, towering over eight feet tall with shoulders so broad they seemed to swallow the light. Weapons hung across his back—a colossal axe and a collection of wickedly sharp blades—each a testament to his lethal presence. His dark green skin was a map of scars, carved into the chiseled planes of his muscular frame, every mark telling a story of battles fought and won. His face was no less formidable, with a strong, angular jaw and eyes that burned with a piercing intensity, locking me in place with their unrelenting gaze.

Gods, he was enormous.I felt the heat rise to my cheeks, praying he hadn’t noticed the flustered exchange I’d just had with Sienna. Trying to compose myself, I stepped forward with a smile. "You must be Druukh! It’s so nice to meet you!" Without thinking, I threw my arms around him, hugging him tightly, my body pressing against his firm, towering frame.

Sienna’s giggle from behind me cut through my moment of boldness. "Um, my Lady..." His deep voice rumbled through me, sending an unexpected shiver down my spine. "My name is Morvak. I serve under my leader, Druukh, as his First Blade." His words were like thunder, low and commanding, vibrating through his chest and into me. Damn. The sheer power in his voice had me awkwardly stepping back, trying to regain my composure. My hands brushed the sides of my gown nervously as I searched for something to say. "I—I’m so sorry. I just assumed you were Druukh, and I..." I stammered, my thoughts scattering as I tried to avoid looking anywhere below his waist. Don’t look at his cock, don’t look at his cock, I chanted silently, though the forbidden thought only made my heart race faster.

"I am Lady Sabine," I finally managed to get out, my voice softer now. "Sienna’s cousin." I tilted my head up, meeting his gaze. His eyes were dark and piercing, filled with something ancient and unyielding. They held me in place, and for a moment, I felt utterly exposed under his stare. My breath hitched as I realized just how handsome he was—his rugged features carved with strength, his jawline sharp, his lips set in a slight smirk that hinted at amusement, or perhaps something darker. The air between us felt heavy, charged.

I couldn’t help but notice the sheer size of him, his body radiating heat and power. His muscles strained beneath the rough leather straps of his armor, and his presence was overwhelming in every sense. My pulse quickened, my body betraying me as I felt a flicker of something I shouldn’t—a pull, an undeniable attraction. His eyes lingered on mine, and I could swear I saw the corner of his mouth twitch, as if he’d caught on to my internal struggle. My cheeks burned, and I turned slightly, brushing my hair back to avoid his intense gaze. But the weight of him stayed with me, his voice echoing in my chest.

This wasn’t just a warrior. This was something far more dangerous. And I wasn’t sure if I wanted to step away—or closer. "I know, we were expecting you. "Druukh is meeting with his generals at the moment, but I will carry your belongings and show you to your tent," Morvak said, his deep voice steady and commanding. His words were simple, yet they resonated with a quiet authority that made me want to listen.

I nodded, unable to form a proper response, still a little stunned by his sheer presence. Sienna, still giggling softly, grabbed my hand and pulled me along as we followed him. My breath hitched as I watched Morvak lift my trunks—all of them—with ease, his muscular arms flexing under the strain as though the heavy load weighed nothing at all. His movements were smooth, his strength effortless. I couldn’t help but stare, my eyes tracing the broad expanse of his back and the powerful way he strode ahead of us, his strides confident and purposeful. Sienna leaned into me, her voice a teasing whisper in my ear. "What do you think of Morvak?" "Umm... he’s big," I mumbled, my voice embarrassingly breathless.

It was all I could manage as I kept my gaze locked on him, watching the way his body moved, the raw power evident in every step he took. The sight made my cheeks flush, and I quickly looked away, hoping Sienna wouldn’t notice. She grinned knowingly. "He is Druukh’s right-hand man and a great warrior. Apparently, they’ve fought in countless battles together. Morvak has saved Druukh’s life more times than I can count."

"Interesting," I said, though my attention kept drifting back to Morvak. There was something magnetic about him, a combination of brute strength and restrained intensity that made it impossible to look away. "But tell me about you," I said, eager to shift the conversation before Sienna picked up on how flustered I was. "What have you been up to since you left me?" Sienna paused, her expression softening as she thought back. "Well," she began hesitantly, "as you know, I was supposed to marry Prince Rakthar. But when I arrived here, everything changed. Druukh claimed me instead." I frowned, my heart aching for her.

"What do you mean, claimed?" "When I first arrived," she continued, her voice quieter now, "it was hard. So hard. None of the orcs were welcoming. They saw me as weak, unworthy of their respect. And I was the only human woman here. Rakthar encouraged his men to be cruel to me, to torment me at every turn. I... I don’t know how I survived those first few weeks. It was horrible." My hands tightened into fists.

"Why didn’t you tell me this in your letters?" She gave me a sad smile. "What would you have done? I couldn’t risk bringing shame to my family. And besides... Druukh stepped in before it got worse. He stopped them, Sabine. Protected me. He made them see me as his equal, as his queen." I nodded slowly, my heart softening. "And now? Are you happy?"

Her face brightened, and the love in her eyes was unmistakable. "Very happy. Druukh has been everything I didn’t expect. Strong, kind in his own way, and fiercely loyal. Now, it’s just a matter of giving him an heir. That’s the next challenge."I stared at her, hesitating as I wrestled with how to phrase the question burning in my mind. Finally, I managed, "Can I ask..." I paused, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks, "...how does it work? The sex, and... childbirth? How is that even possible?" Sienna’s eyes lit up with a mischievous glint, and she grinned knowingly. Leaning in close, her voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper. "Well," she began, her tone both teasing and genuine, "it’s all about trust and... being gently stretched over time." She flushed, the color high on her cheeks, but her smile didn’t waver. "You’d think it would be painful, right? To take someone so strong, so big. But it’s not. It’s—" She bit her lip, her gaze flickering away as if reliving something that made her shiver.

"It’s incredible. To feel someone like Druukh, so powerful, overwhelming you in the best possible way, filling you completely..." Her voice trailed off, and her flush deepened as her smile turned dreamy. "It’s unlike anything I could have imagined. It’s amazing." I blinked, my own cheeks burning at her vivid description. Her words painted a picture I couldn’t ignore, one that left my heart racing. The idea of such intensity, such connection, was both daunting and oddly... enticing. Sienna cleared her throat, snapping herself back to the present.

Her smile faltered just slightly as her tone softened. "But the childbirth?" she continued, her voice quieter now, more vulnerable. "That’s a different story. I—I don’t know how it will go. I am nervous, Sabine. A little scared, if I’m honest. But..." She glanced down at her hands, twisting her fingers together, before meeting my gaze again. "Druukh really wants children with me. And I want to give him that, to build a life with him. He’s been everything I needed, even when I didn’t realize it." I nodded, reaching out to squeeze her hand. "I’m so glad you’re happy, Sienna. Truly. I’ve been so worried about you. And with everyone talking about the Bloodfang Clan and Vulgrim, how he’s getting closer and closer to Morgathal..." I trailed off, glancing at her with concern. "I needed to see with my own eyes that you were safe." Sienna squeezed my hand gently, her expression soft. "Thank you, Sabine.

It means so much to me that you came all this way." Just then, Morvak stopped outside my tent, the sheer size of him making the sturdy canvas walls seem small. With an effortless motion, he ducked through the low opening, his shoulders brushing the frame, and set my trunks and luggage down with ease. His presence filled the space, his raw strength impossible to ignore. The muscles in his forearms flexed as he straightened, his movements precise yet somehow imposing. I caught myself staring, the memory of Sienna’s earlier words about orc men flashing unbidden in my mind, and my cheeks flushed hot. "This is your tent, my Lady," Morvak said, his deep voice rumbling through the small space. His dark eyes flickered toward mine, and for a moment, I felt the air between us grow heavier, charged with something unspoken. "Do you need anything else from me?" I swallowed, feeling the intensity of his gaze as it lingered on me just a moment too long.

"No, thank you, Morvak," I managed, my voice softer than I intended. He nodded, the corners of his mouth curving almost imperceptibly, before turning and striding away. My eyes, against my better judgment, followed him, watching the way his powerful frame moved, the sway of his steps purposeful and commanding. Heat crept over me, and I tore my gaze away, chastising myself silently.

Sienna, oblivious to my flustered state, clapped her hands together as she opened one of my trunks. "Ooooh!" she exclaimed, pulling out one of my dresses—a sky-blue gown with silver embroidery that shimmered in the light. She held it up to her chest, turning to me with wide eyes. "Can I pleeease borrow this?" I laughed, grateful for the distraction. "Borrow whatever you want! I packed a lot." Her smile lit up the room as she twirled in front of the mirror, the dress flowing around her. "No one in Morgathal can make gowns like the ones in Ardenfell," she said wistfully. "I either have to wait for traders passing through or hope that my most favorite cousin ever brings me something special."

She winked at me, her grin mischievous. I couldn’t help but laugh, pulling her into a hug. "You’re welcome to all of them, Sienna. You deserve a little luxury."As we unpacked, the tent filled with the vibrant colors of Ardenfell—jewel-toned silks, soft velvets, and delicate lace spilling from my trunks. My gowns, with their intricate embroidery and flowing fabrics, seemed almost out of place in Morgathal’s stark, rugged surroundings. Yet as I arranged them, I caught myself wondering how they would look here—if perhaps one of these dresses might catch Morvak’s eye, if he’d even notice the contrast between this world and mine.

great chapter! the story captures you coming in from the second book right away. I love your writing as you can “feel” the characters, not only their interior thoughts but exteriorly as well (the sweat falling between her breasts), the description of the orcs and the sites around them it’s visceral which I love. 💕
