Information before you read
In this story a werewolf shifts at the age of 10, but you meet your wolf at the age of 8 so then you can start to form a bond before your first shift as it helps a little. You are able to find your fated mate at the age of 17. You can become an Alpha at the minimum age of 18, but typically at 19 or 20.
Prologue
Anika’s P.O.V.
8 years earlier
I feel the morning sun on me as I start to wake up, my eyes flutter open adjusting to the light.
“Good morning birthday girl” a voice says in my head as I jump up in surprise.
“Who said that?” I reply in my mind
“I'm Midnight, I’m your wolf. You cannot tell anyone about me, there are bad people who will use you. I know this is scary but you have to trust me.” the voice says.
“I trust you, I can tell you aren’t lying. I don’t know how but I can. How am I supposed to hide this secret from everyone? Including mom she knows everything she will know I’m hiding something the moment she sees me.” I ask worriedly
“Once I sense her wolf I’ll know if we can trust her. Just remember no matter what, don't tell anyone I will protect you. Everything happens for a reason. When you come of age to shift you won’t, but next year you will shift on your birthday to help hide this secret. You will just tell everyone you don’t have a wolf.” she says reassuringly
“Thank you Midnight, you give me hope.” She doesn’t say anything in response, just smiles in my mind.
I get in the shower then get ready for the day. I put on my white dress that goes past my knees, since it's my birthday. White is the traditional color in our pack for birthdays no matter what rank they are. After I get ready I head downstairs for breakfast, on a normal day I would grab food and go to the forest. It's my safe place, but since it's my birthday I am eating breakfast with both of my parents.
As soon as I walk into the dining room my parents' eyes are on me, my dad has no emotion in his eyes as usual, but my mom can already tell I’m hiding something. I quietly walk to my spot as the food comes out.
“You’re late daughter” My father says disapprovingly
“I know father, for that I apologize” he seems to approve of my response as he stays quiet.
We finish breakfast in silence, when I finish I excuse myself and my father just waves me away like usual, but this time my mother follows. I walk to the forest and to my favorite spot. It’s a field in the forest hidden from the world, yet beautiful. As I sit down my mom finally speaks.
“What are you hiding Ika?” My mother asks
I’m about to respond when Midnight speaks.
“We can trust her, only her though.” Midnight says and I sigh in relief not having to try and lie to her.
“I can speak to my wolf already. You cannot tell anyone please, she says it's for my safety.” I say rushing the last part
“I promise, darling. What will happen when you shift? You know your father will take you to the sacred grounds and you will need to shift.”
“She says I will shift next year on my birthday.”
“Of course! You are lucky you have a very smart wolf, I can tell you guys are close already.”
“We are, I love her.” I say as I look in my brain and Midnight seeing her smiling back at me wagging her tail
“Happy birthday, my beautiful girl” My mom says.
“Thank you mom”
A year later
A year has passed since I’ve met my wolf, Midnight, we have only gotten closer. Today is my ninth birthday and I have to shift today. To say I’m scared would be an understatement, I’m absolutely terrified. My mom said she will be there with me though, so I am thankful for that.
As the day passes just like it does every year, I walk out to the forest with my mom to our secret spot. It's the spot where I told her about my wolf.
We get there just as the moon rises, I sit on the forest floor. I feel the ache in my bones, but I don’t let that scare me, I trust Mid with my life. As I feel my bones start to break my mom shifts to help me shift. I bite my lip to stop me from screaming in pain as every bone in my body starts to break.
“It's okay Ika, I'm here just listen to Midnight and don’t fight it.”
I don’t answer because of the pain, but then Mid talks to me.
“Don’t be scared Nika. I’m here, just breathe and think about giving me control.” I listen to what she says and then the pain is gone. I open my eyes to find I shifted and I jump up excitedly.
My mom and I ran for a while before we shifted back. Then we head home, just to find out father in a meeting and we head to bed.
Instead of mom going to her and father’s room she goes to mine with me. She snuggles with me in bed lulling me to sleep.
“I’ll sleep here tonight, you need me more. I love you so much and I am so so so proud of you baby girl.” I hear my mother say as I am falling to sleep. I'm too tired to respond but I know I smiled, because she laughed at my sleepy smile.
Characters and info
• Anika is a strong confident woman, but she wasn’t always. When she was young she was shy and smart, she was raised a warrior, but she hated violence and anything like it. She now lives in violence as she trusts no one except those who have saved her, including her pack as they have all felt betrayal whether it be from family, friends, pack, or even mates they have all survived, are strong, and protect those who protect them. Her pack, named Nyx after the Goddess of night, is a family where they treat everyone as equal. An Omega is treated with respect just like an Alpha would be and is treated as an equal to a high ranking family. Anika has dark chocolate brown hair that almost looks black in certain lighting, she has hazel colored eyes that used to sparkle when she smiled, and she is a pure Alpha born werewolf since both of her parents were of Alpha families.
• Rose and Erik are the parents of Anika, they are both Alpha born and are the Alpha and Luna of Full Moon Pack. Rose is the third born in her family with the oldest being her brother then her sister and she has 2 younger siblings who are twins a girl and a boy, she found her mate when she was 18 he was 19. Her wolf Lilly is almost an exact replica of her with dirty blonde fur and emerald green eyes. Erik is the first born in his family with a younger sister and brother. He took over as Alpha on his 19th birthday when he finally found his mate Rose. His wolf Jag has black hair and brown eyes just like Erik. Erik was raised on the beliefs of his father, those who are wolf-less are weak and should never be in power as they are of lower rank no matter the rank they are born into; Higher rank are always to be treated better than lower rank as they are more important. Rose has always tried to change his mind, but gave up when he even shunned their daughter for not having a wolf.
• Aaron is the one who is chosen by Erik to replace Anika. Little does anyone know, including them, they are fated mates. Aaron is a Beta son from a former pack that was destroyed by rogues when he was 8 he had just met his wolf and when the rogues attacked his wolf took control too shift saving his life finding their way to Full Moon Pack the closest pack to them. His wolf’s name is Atlas and has red fur with some brown in it and sky blue eyes just like Aaron.
• Ellie is a rogue who was kidnapped just like Anika but a year before her. She is a year younger than Anika; her parents died by pack wolves attacking their camp thinking they are a threat. Anika and her meet in the cells, they had cells right next to each other. They comforted each other when they needed it. When she gets out she finds her way to the pack Anika always talked about Full Moon, she joins the pack. She meets her mate there, he is the soon-to-be Beta, Elijah.
