Chapter 1
Alex
I had just turned sixteen that summer, my cousin Alex and I were super close, as close as any siblings out there. I was the only child so I was with her all the time growing up. Alex had long brown hair, olive skin, big brown eyes and a body that would Stop anybody in their tracks.
She was only three years older then me but she was definitely blesed by the big woman upstairs. I, on the other hand wore coke bottle glasses and was super skinny my mom always said I was all knees and elbows. I had dark brown skin from being out in the sun all summer and big poofy hair. Nobody really showed me how to actually fix my own hair properly so I just walked around looking like I had just got struck by lightning.
Alex was literally everything I wasn’t and I secretly wanted to be her. She was my idol, the sun I orbited around. Looking back now, I think she knew that. She always had all the attention, she was beautiful and funny, she was super athletic and all the boys flocked to her, mesmerized by her beauty.
Even though I was her annoying little twerp of a cousin, she always invited me to go with her and her friends everywhere. Now, I’m not so certain that maybe our parents made her. Regardless of her reason, it always made me feel super happy and totally “cool” I just couldn’t help but feel like a was the odd man out.
Alex wasn’t the only one that was beautiful. Literally all of her friends were too. They all had super hot boyfriends and they were all so popular. Alex being one of the top softball players while her friends were on the cheerleading squad.
Alex had recently broke up with her boyfriend and everyone was shocked. They were like the “It” couple. He was of course the football captain. Weeks go by and I hounded Alex about it but she would only ever say it was because she just didn’ t love him anymore. For some reason I knew something was “off “ about it. They had been together for 2 years. I know now that high school love never really lasts but at the time I was shocked. In reality I couldn’t even grasp the concept of love or even boys in general.
Jazmin
Boys literally never looked my way. I was invisible, a shadow in the background. They only ever wated to make fun of me. And I unfortunately fell for it everytime. They would prank me and say “hey Jazmin, Tyler wants to sit with you at lunch today” but in all actuality they were just being assholes and wanted to see if id say yes like an idiot. As if it was a big joke that anyone would actually want to be with me.
It was Friday and after school I came home ran upstairs throwing my bag onto my bed. I was starving because at lunch some stupid red headed and pale, might I add jock came and stole my pizza, of course everyone laughed. I never understood why stealing someones lunch would be considered comedy gold.
As I went downstairs to get an after school snack, there was a random guy sitting on the couch with Alex, I couldn’t see his face as his back was turned to me. Alex had been staying with my mom and I for a while because her and her mom argued all the time. As I walked by she smiled at me like she had just won the damn lottery, I frowned my brows and cocked my head at her as I walked past them into the kitchen.
I grabbed a bowl from one of the top cabinets and then poured some fruit loops into the bowl. I walked over to the cabinet and grabbed a cup and ice, adding the milk into the cup with ice, I couldn’t help but feel like I was being watched. As I walked over to the counter and sat down on the middle barestool and started pouring the milk that had been chilling in the cup of ice into my bowl, a dark buttery smooth voice interrupted my food mission..
“ive never seen someone put their milk on ice before they eat cereal”
I slowly turned my head to see a guy in his twenties looking down at me to my left. I jumped and my eyes bulged out of my head because well first of all he was devastatingly handsome! Tattoos sleeves on both tan arms and He had dark green emerald eyes, dirty blonde hair cut short on the sides and was a little messy on the top, bright white straight teeth. His canine teeth were sharp almost like a vampire and a jaw line sharp enough to cut you. He had rosacea that made him always look flushed on his cheeks.
He smiled at me with a devilish grin, which made me squirm in the chair I was shitting in. I just stared at him, mouth mid chew wondering to myself who the hell was this beautiful stranger. “There is no way he was talking to me.”I had never been around a guy that old before and I definitely never had a guy that looked like him give me two seconds of their time.
Alex runs over with a shit eating grin. “Jazmin this is Damian Blackwood” my eyes shoot to hers because theres no way she just said Blackwood. That family is super duper rich and im pretty sure James Blackwood Damians father was a serial killer. It was the talk of the town when James and his wife Tina apparently died in a car crash two years ago. It was all over the news. But everyone thinks James killed her and then crashed the car to try and cover her murder. Like a murder suicide kinda thing. “Wow umm its nice to meet you” my eye bounce to Alex and Damians not sure who im supposed to look at. “Im jaz ….Alex’s cousin” I say nervously, something about this dude is super intense and intimidating.
“Nice to meet you Jazmin, Alex didnt tell me her little cousin was so beautiful” I let out an awkward laugh followed by a snort “umm ok” Alex laughs off the weird comment and says “Duh, all the Fisher woman are hella fine!” My eyes shoot back to him and notice he hadn’t stopped looking at me since he came over and my instincts are screaming to run up out the riom. But instead my blood is set a flame under his almost unsettling glade. He licks his lips and finally breaks his stare away from me before grabbing Alex by her hips saying “come on babe I wanna go play” his eyes now look hungry and needy. Ive never witnessed something so damn erotic in real life. She blushes and slaps him away “Damian shut up!” She turns to me red as a pepper and tells me they are gonna go get some food and then go back to his house and to tell our moms that she would be back later. I shake my head as they turn and walk away. I wait to continue eating my now soggy cereal for the sound of the front door shutting.
“I can’t believe I just had Damian Blackwood in my kitchen, and My cousin is dating him! This is going to be an interesting year!”
