Chapter 3 Vampire

That night I decided that I would follow Kerian after school. As school was coming to an end I see Kerian leaving early, so I decided to follow him. Once outside Kerian turned a corner and was out of sight, and I had to run to keep up. Kerian was now crossing the road, so I made sure that he couldn’t see me, and crossed the road too. Once we were on the other side of the road, he took off running. I have to run faster to keep up. Once he stops running, I have to hide behind the nearest building, to keep him from seeing me. I peer around the corner, to see why he has stopped, and there all the way up a giant hill is a mansion. Like a huge one with a giant pool. He is walking up the hill when I step on a branch, I quickly dart behind the nearest tree. Luckily he doesn't see me. He’s still walking when I follow behind him, but this time quicker. I make sure I don’t step on anything this time. Once he reaches his house, he opens the door, and closes it behind him. I walk up to the front door and knock. Seconds later, the door opens and there stands yet another hot guy.

“Hello, I am here to talk to Kerian,” I say, as red flushes my cheek.

“Well I’m sorry, because he’s not here right now, he won’t be back for three days, ” he says, eyeing me suspiciously.

“But he was just at school, and I just saw him walk into this house,” I say, getting nervous that I’m going to get caught.

“I am so very sorry, where are my manners,” he laughs to himself. “What is your name?” he asks.

“Ava,” I say, plainly.

“Well nice to meet you, my name's Don, I am a friend of Kerian,” he says, proudly. “But you must be going, I have a lot of work to do,” he says, and starts to shut the door, but I quickly push the door open as hard as I can, and bolt into the house.

“Wait, you can’t be in here!” he yells, running after me. I stop in the living room, and satire in amazement. There is a huge living room, a wide staircase, where I can see lots of rooms on the landing, and beyond the satire case is the biggest library I have ever seen.

“This place is bigger than it looks on the outside.” I say still staring all around me.

“That it is, but you really must be going now.” he says in a worried tone.

“But I just got here, can’t I at least look at the library? I ask, giving him a pleading look.

“James does not trust just anyone in his library,” he says, trying to push me in the direction of the door. But I hear someone shut a door upstairs. So with no further questions, I dart up the staircase as fast as I can, ignoring the constant shouts from Don as he tells me to get back downstairs. Once I reach the top of the stairs I turn the corner in the direction of the sound, at this point Don was running up the stairs after me, I pick up my pace until I reach a door, I quickly open it and shut it behind me quietly, I turn around to see Kerian lying on a bed, not breathing. Just then Don bursts into the room.

“Kieran's dead?” I ask, turning to look Don in the eye and demand for an explanation.

“He’s not dead,” is all he says.

“Yes he is, I’m not blind,” I say, my tone rising.

“Come with me and I will answer all of your questions,” he says, pointing to the door.

“Fine,” I say, following him out of the room and down the stairs. Once down stairs he leads me into the kitchen and to the dining room table, he pulls a chair out and motions me to sit.

“Now what would you like to know first?” he asks.

“You said that Kerian’s not dead, then what is he then?” I say, giving a worried look.

He’s dormant,” he says plainly.

“What’s dormant mean?” I ask next.

“It’s where the body is what you humans call dead, but our kind call dormant. During dormancy the body will heal itself, then when 2 days is up, he will be as good as new, and the same age he died.” he says, like he’s quoting a book.

“What’s that supposed to mean,” I ask.

“It means that when two days is up, Kerian will be 18 again, and when another month is up it will happen again,” he says, dropping the tone he was just using.

So Kerian is dead?” I say, confused.

“Kind of, our kind is immortal, we became immortal by dying and someone saving our life.”

“So who saved Kerian? I ask.

“That is for Kerian to tell, not me, and that is if he decides to tell it to you,” is all he says.

“Do you guys drink blood or something?” I ask, not sure what answer I’m hoping for.

“Yes,” he says, plainly.

“Oh, how do you die permanently?” I ask.

“We have to be burned for it to be complete, if they miss a body part, then we still live,” he says, just as I am about to ask how Kerian knows Andras when an adult walks in, he looks to be in his forties.

“WHAT IS SHE DOING HERE!” he yells.

“I’m sorry James, I tried to stop her, but then she saw Kerian in a dormant state, and so I told her about our kind.” Don says, nervously.

“Your mistake has put us at risk of being caught, and not only that, but our enemies could also use her as bait, to get Kerian!” James says, still shouting.

“How would she be used as bait, Kerian doesn’t even know her?” Don says, still nervous

“You know he has had his eye on her for over a century.” James says, now whispering, so I don’t hear what he just said.

“Oh, he doesn't even know her as a person, other than the fact of him watching her.” Don says, dropping his voice too.

“He’s still in love with her, and he will die trying to save her, and if they get to know each other he will only fall for her more,” he says, sighing.

“So, we protect her,” Don says, strongly.

“We can’t always protect her, and what about her mom, you know she won’t lie to her,” he says just as strongly.

“Oh, but we have to try, there’s no turning back now, it’s not like she’s going to forget everything and move on,” he says sadly.

“I know, but we must try to sort things out, because if we don’t, we could lose everything.” he says, turning to look at me.

I am so very sorry to intrude on you guys, but I wanted to know what were the red and blue balls of light in the woods, as well as how Andras  and Kerian know each other,” I ask, knowing that they are going to kick me out at any minute.

“The blue and red light is how we travel fast, and Andras and his kind of outcasts are sworn enemies.” James says, plainly.

“Well this is all very new to me, and so you're saying that you guys turn into light, also why is there red and blue?” I say, glad they aren’t kicking me out yet.

“That’s because red means evil, and blue means good.” Don says before James has a chance to answer himself.

“So you're saying that Andras is bad and Kerian is good?” I ask, confused.

“Yep that is exactly what I’m saying, and if you could I would like to have you keep what you know about us a secret. So that means don’t tell your mom, and don’t tell Andras that you know he’s bad, and one of our kind,” says, James

“Okay,” I say, checking the time.

“I gotta go, but are you guys vampires then since you drink blood?” I ask, already heading towards the door.

“;Yes, but we would like you to come back tomorrow so we can continue to talk,” says James.
