Chapter 1 - Early to Bed
Book 8 in the POWER Series...
Incidicus stood with his head bowed down while his master the emperor threw a furious tantrum in the room surrounding him after their failure to capture the Dragon Queen Lillian.
Screaming out in anger and throwing various items halfway across the room, he was clearly not in the best mood for a chat.
“Fucking dragon filth… I’ll end that bastard with my bare hands!” Kulnarik cried out, clenching both his gloved fists in front of himself.
“How dare he defy me like that.”
Another chair was suddenly sent halfway across the room before Incidicus finally chose this as his moment to speak his suggestion aloud.
“Perhaps we could look at it a little differently.” the sorcerer proclaimed.
“After all, the Queen is still wearing the necklace and with it on, she remains totally vulnerable. We can still utilise this to our advantage, my emperor.”
Kulnarik narrowed his neon green eyes at Incidicus as he spoke in response.
“And just how exactly do you suggest we do that? The Dragon King will have his men on high alert now, along with the castle being totally and utterly impregnable.”
Incidicus grinned devilishly.
“Not totally, my lord.” he pointed out.
“I happen to know a way that we could reach her without having been seen.”
The emperor seemed all ears now as he turned around to face his High Sorcerer.
“Speak, Incidicus.” he commanded.
“Tell me your idea.”
With the Councilmen all unsure of how they should vote, the Kingdom’s future was currently hanging in the balance of their choice.
“This is indeed very important, Councilmen.” Lillian spoke up.
“Without the removal of this necklace, I can do nothing to support the protection of this Kingdom. The emperor and his army have taken over many villages, castles and even Kingdoms in the past and will not hesitate to do so with Westoria.”
“It is not a matter of whether or not we should quest, that much is certain.” Allister commented from his seat.
“It is more of a matter of who would protect the castle and people whilst you are away on thus quest. That is our major concern here.”
“I understand, Councilmen.” Draxus chimed in.
“That is why I would like to propose the leadership of the Kingdom handed over to the Council during our quest away.”
Every single member of the council appeared astonished, as they began talking amongst themselves.
Draxus knew it was a big change, but it would only be temporary, and the Council held the best regard possible for Westoria.
They would be the perfect people to keep it protected and guarded in their absence.
Eventually the councilmen came to a hush as Head Councilman Allister spoke.
“Perhaps this could work, my lord. On a temporary basis, of course.” he announced.
“Of course.” Draxus spoke with a nod of his head.
“Freeing Lillian of this cursed necklace is our biggest priority, for war is coming. We must be prepared for it.”
Nodding, Allister agreed.
“Very well then, let us vote instead on whether we allow the council to rule over Westoria for a temporary period of time, until the legitimate King and Queen return. All those in favour, raise your hand.”
Every single hand of the council shot up with excitement at the idea, and thus they had reached their agreement.
“Excellent.” Allister proclaimed.
“Now you may go forth, venture on your quest and return safe and sound. And hopefully without that necklace.”
Lillian smiled, nodding her head as she looked to Draxus happily.
“It worked.” she announced.
“We’ll find the sorceress, remove the necklace and defend ourselves from Kulnarik’s forces.”
Draxus placed both hands upon the sides of Lillian’s face, looking deeply into her emerald-green eyes with love.
“As long as I have you safe and sound, I’ll be happy.” he proclaimed.
“Oh, when will you be setting off on your quest?” Allister called out his one last comment from the desk.
Draxus and Lillian both turned to face him as the Dragon King replied.
“We will leave at dawn.” he replied.
With the quest having been approved and set to take place tomorrow morning at dawn, Draxus and Lillian wanted to get an early night in.
Once baby Rylan had been put to bed for the evening, the royal couple retired to their own chambers for a drink before bed.
“Are we bringing soldiers on this quest?” Lillian enquired as they stepped into their chambers and closed the door behind themselves.
“No point.” Draxus replied shaking his head.
“They’ll only get in the way. And lugging all that armour in such a long distance would only tire them out.”
“But what if we run into trouble?” she asked, removing her royal cloak and placing it over the back of a chair.
“You’re worrying about things that haven’t happened yet, my love.” Draxus mused as he did the same.
The couple continued their conversation as they undressed together.
“It will be just the two of us, Flynn, Freya, Zaar and Bailiin going.” Draxus explained.
“The quest should only last for around two weeks or so at the most. If we can get it done faster, even better.”
“I’m just worried that something bad will happen.” Lillian admitted with concern.
“And who will look after Rylan and-”
“-You’re panicking over nothing, dearest.” Draxus cut in over her.
“There are plenty of skilled carers to look after our son during our trip away. You and I have nothing to be worried about.”
“I guess you’re right.” she agreed.
Slipping into her nightgown, the young Queen then climbed up into bed, pulling the covers up over herself as Draxus pulled off his last article of clothing.
“Aren’t you coming?” he questioned her.
Confused with what she might have done wrong, Lillian sat upright in the bed as she spoke.
“Where?”
“For a quick dip, of course.” he replied.
Lillian looked over at where the heated pool sat and the steam rising from the milky water’s surface.
It did indeed look enticing!
“I thought we could enjoy a nice swim before bed.” the King commented seductively while standing there confidently in the nude.
Lillian looked down at her nightgown and then back at him.
“Only if you keep your hands to yourself, good sir.” she demanded.
“Every time we go for a swim in there it turns into you and I…”
She paused, blushing.
“Well, you know what I mean.”
Draxus chuckled deeply.
“Come on, I won’t wait forever.” he proclaimed, striding across the room and then slowly wading down into the milky water of the pool.
Swallowing nervously, Lillian recalled their very first time together, back at her foster parent’s castle.
It was in a pool just like this one.
And they had been together many times in this pool as well.
She couldn’t help it; he looked incredible in the nude.
Pushing the covers back, Lillian then stood herself up next to the bed and took hold of her nightgown’s shoulder, sliding it down before repeating the process with the other one.
She then slid her nightgown down over the length of her body until it pooled down at her feet.
Rendering her naked.
Draxus immediately felt as his manhood sprung into action at merely the sight of her standing before him.
“Fucking perfect.” he proclaimed with a low growl.
Lillian smiled at the compliment as she then made her way over towards the heated pool.
“You don’t look too bad yourself, my King.” she commented seductively.
As she slowly submerged herself in the milky water, Draxus couldn’t help himself as he was instantly magnetised towards her, wrapping both his arms around her and igniting a strong and passionate kiss with her.
She immediately reciprocated, the two entangled within one another while standing mid-waist in steamy water.
Parting only to speak, Draxus looked into her eyes as he did so.
“How did I get so lucky?”
Lillian narrowed her eyes, holding the base of his chin with her slender fingers as she replied.
“I’m still trying to figure that one out.” she joked with a grin.
