"A "Touching Of Lips" is a delightful "coming of age" book full of colourful personalities, engaging characters and well thought through backstories which unravel aa you progress through the story. With a dash of mermen, a sprinkle of romance and a strong environmental message about the destructive impact that humans are having on the ocean, I found this to be a thoroughly enjoyable journey as we joined the author in navigating through a plethora of ethical dilemmas and blossoming friendships. "What an awesome story. This story is full of twists and turns with tons of drama bringing up just as many emotions. I love the relationship between all of them, even though it mainly focuses on Earth and Ming's relationship. This was definitely a twist on the mermen and human interaction angle. A Touching Of Lips Really Touches The Heart ❤️
"This is a coming of age and coming out story. It is told from the perspective of a young boy named Earth, who is 17, and turning into a young adult, facing a tremendous loss and dealing with internal conflict and external ridicule. Earth must work through these conflicts about his sexual orientation, while at the same time prepare to take over the family business. Lucky for Earth he is guided by a secret society of MerPeople that keep his head above water to help him navigate the waves of uncertainty and doubt. This genre is not something I normally gravitate to, but I'm so glad that I chose to read this and explore outside my comfort zone. I immediately became invested and attached to the main character, Earth. This was all attributed to the authors fabulous writing skills. From the beginning I was blown away at how naturally funny, witty and enduring all of these characters were. Their persona's burst off the pages and straight into my heart. Since the story was told by Earth, I couldn't help but to fall in love with him from the very first chapter and found myself rooting for him all the way to the end. This is, however, a double-edged sword. As the reader, we can't help but become emotionally invested in Earth, but because we only see things from his perspective, what ever goes on without him there, we either don't get to experience it, or we hear about it second hand. This fact hit me the hardest during the ocean battle scene. Another negative I have is how slow the pacing is, especially in the middle chapters. A minutia of detail and discussion, always over a meal, about each physical step in the relationship as Earth's character arc moves as slow as the stars traverse the night's sky. But this was my first boyxboy teen romance novel, so maybe this is par for the course, I don't know. But here's what I do know. I learned some new terminology. I laughed a lot, and I definitely became attached to the protagonist, Earth. So much so that I became protective of him and found myself creating an entire conspiracy theory thinking everyone was out to fool, trick and take advantage of him all for their own benefit. I was so wrong, but I'm not wrong for loving this book, and I'll never be ashamed to say it! 4 out of 5 stars. A little long, but a great, extremely well-written journey into self-discovery and acceptance. 👍❤️👏❤️🫶 "
