Chapter 1

Did I just kill someone?

Celine blinked. And then blinked again. Why couldn’t she see properly? Why––

Oh. There was blood in her eye. Right; she’d hit her head at some point, hadn’t she?

With a groan, Celine turned her head, the airbag feeling strangely smooth against her cheek. Red and blue filled her vision. The police must be here.

Wait. The car she’d hit. She had to know if the person––

Sitting up proved to be a bad idea. Celine gasped as a hot spike of pain pierced her skull. She slumped against the airbag.

She breathed, waiting for the pain to recede. It did, if only a little.

Celine didn’t try to move again. She didn’t think she could. Especially as black spots started to take over what little vision she had left.

She blinked again, suddenly feeling drowsy. Slowly, the piercing sirens faded into blissed silence.

As her eyes slipped closed, Celine remembered something. She’d seen someone, just before the crash. A person standing off to the side. Watching. Just watching.

Who was that person, anyway?
