Prologue

In the deep dark forest the tree towered high with their long branches intertwining gnarled fingers reaching out for something lost. A thick banket of fog wove through the forest and the air hung heavy with the scent of damp earth and decay.

Two friends embarked on a late night run in the forest with the solace of each other’s company.

“Jungkook I am getting tired, I can’t match your pace!” The young girl shouted, her breath forming a small cloud in the thick cold air.

Jungkook stopped on his track and chuckled looking Anna trying to catch her breath, “A weak human.” He mumbled watching her struggling with her breath. “Do you ever wonder... why I brought you here?” His voice came out as a whisper with a cruel melody.

Anna paused, confusion clouding her features. Her chest rose and fell as she tried to steady her breathing. “No,” she replied, her voice wavering slightly, “but... why don’t you tell me?”

The forest seemed to hold its breath as Jungkook’s gaze shifted, his expression unreadable. His gaze stuck near the bush of roses.

“Look there.” He pointed with a wicked grin and Anna innocently followed his gaze and she saw there in center stood the bush of roses, shimmering in a soft, otherworldly glow. Their petals were a deep crimson, and the dew glistened like tiny diamonds on their surfaces. As she approached, the flowers seemed to dance in the moonlight, beckoning her closer.

“Wow they look so beautiful!” Anna exclaimed she whispered, her eyes wide with wonder. The roses seemed to pulse, their petals glowing even brighter as she stepped closer. They almost looked... inviting, like they wanted her to get closer, to reach out and touch them.

As she took another step, something flickered in the corner of her vision-Jungkook’s eyes, watching her with an intensity that felt both warm and cold at the same time. His smile had faded, replaced by a look that she couldn’t quite place.

“Be careful,” he said, his voice a little too calm, a little too quiet. “Not everything in this forest is what it seems.”

Anna froze as she felt the cold, wet droplets land on her arm. Her heart skipped a beat, and she furrowed her brows, looking up, trying to make sense of the sensation.

The moment her eyes met the dark canopy above, a chill ran through her body. The droplets weren’t rain-no, they were something else.

“Mom! Dad!” Anna screamed at the top of her lungs watching the pale bodies of her mom and dad hanging from a branch of the tree, the figure swayed gently in the breeze.

Anna cried, her voice cracking with desperation as she rushed to their side, but it was too late. The once comforting presence of her parents was gone, replaced by cold, lifeless forms.

Tears streamed down her face, her body shaking with the overwhelming grief. She could feel her world unraveling, her heart breaking in a thousand pieces as she screamed out, calling for help that she knew would never come.

And then, through her sobs, she heard it. A sound that made her blood run cold.

Jungkook’s laughter.

“Why?” She whispered.

“Breaking the rules of our world, marrying a human and falsifying everything! This is what you get as a punishment.” Jungkook growled as his eyes turn crimson red. “Feed the human body to our pack let’s enjoy the feast today.” Jungkook shouted. His men, the wolf hybrids walking near the tree on his order and untangling the figures.

“Jungkook no! I will report you to the cops, the hunters!” Anna growled in anger glaring straight at Jungkook only to earn a chuckle from him. “If you are in a position to do so.” And with that he pushed Anna in the bush of roses.

Anna screamed in pain and opened her eyes only to see that these weren’t any normal roses, they were magical as if moving under someone’s spell. Her body trembling as the sharp thorns of the roses pierced her skin. The sharp, searing pain shot through her like fire, and she tried to pull away, but the more she struggled, the deeper the thorns sank. Her vision blurred as the blood flowed, mixing with the petals at her feet.

With every breath, the roses seemed to pulse, glowing faintly in the moonlight. It was a sickening feeling, like they were alive with their own will, their own intent, and they were determined to keep her in their grasp.

She had heard stories. Stories of magic, of curses, of ancient powers. But Anna never thought it would happen to her. Never thought she would become part of something so... terrifying.

Her mouth went dry, but no sound came out.

“The Moonstone Pack will be answerable for their actions for going against the rules of our world, and no amount of pleading will save them. I curse them that they will be deprived of all their werewolf power, they can’t shift to their werewolf form, they will be deprived of their mates, their pack can’t grow and they will be outcasted from our world.”

The silence in the room is deafening, everyone holding their breath, aware of the consequences that have now been set in motion.
