Summary

“Wake up.” The icy splash of water jolted Jasmine awake, her breath hitching as reality crashed down. Disoriented and trembling, she barely registered a hand striking her cheek. The sharp sting and the metallic tang of blood grounded her in a nightmare she couldn’t escape. Sebastian loomed over her, his presence as sharp and cold as the venom in his voice. “Welcome, princess. How do you find Montague's hospitality?” His smirk was colder than the water dripping from her face. “I bring news,” he continued, his words cutting like a blade. “Your father has finally met justice—straight to hell.” Jasmine froze, tears welling in her eyes. “No,” she whispered, shaking her head. “What happened to my father? What did you do to him?” Sebastian’s smirk twisted into something darker. “What did I do?” he repeated, his voice low and venomous. “I gave your father exactly what he deserved—for destroying my sister’s life, for tearing my family apart.” He leaned in closer, his gaze piercing and unrelenting. “But don’t mistake this for an ending, Jasmine. This is only the beginning.” Her voice cracked as she pleaded, “Please—you’ve got it wrong. My father and I would never harm anyone!” Sebastian’s grip tightened on her chin, his unrelenting gaze boring into her. “Spare me your innocence,” he hissed. “I should be glad he’s dead—but I’m not. Because I didn’t kill him myself. So I’ll settle for you.

Prologue

The harsh fluorescent lights cast a sickly pallor over the private hospital room, occasionally flickering as if struggling against the darkness. The sharp scent of antiseptic hung heavy in the air, unable to mask the underlying smell of despair. An artificial chill permeated the room, the soft hum of medical equipment creating an otherworldly atmosphere. The steady beeping of monitors pierced the silence – each tone a mocking reminder that machines, not willpower, kept Sophia Montague clinging to life. She lay motionless on the white sheets, her once vibrant face now a canvas of purple and yellow bruises. Dark marks circled her throat like a macabre necklace, her delicate wrists raw and torn from restraints. Tubes and wires kept her tethered to this world. Sebastian Montague stood by her bedside, his presence darkening the sterile room. His touch was gentle as he brushed her hair back – the same gesture their mother used when they were children, before the car crash that orphaned them both.

Three days earlier, he had found her - discarded like trash in a dumpster behind an abandoned warehouse, her body bearing marks of unspeakable violation. The memory of her broken form, half-buried in filth, would haunt him until his dying breath. The doctors spoke in hushed, grim tones about comas and recovery chances, their clinical words failing to capture the magnitude of what had been stolen from her. The cocktail of drugs in her system had done devastating damage, they said. But they didn’t understand what Sebastian knew in his bones: this was no random act of violence.

Through the window, distant sirens wailed – a haunting symphony of the city he commanded. His fingers wrapped around her limp hand, the unnatural coldness of her skin sending a chill through him. Each shallow, labored breath she took seemed to echo his failure. Guilt churned in his gut like acid. He was Sebastian Montague – the man who controlled half of London, who could buy or break anything he desired. Yet he hadn’t been able to protect his own sister. The sister he had practically raised after their parents’ deaths, who had brought light and laughter into their dark world when he was drowning in responsibilities at eighteen. While he built their empire with cold calculation, eleven-year-old Sophia had been his reminder of warmth, of humanity, of everything worth fighting for. She had been his only reason to smile in a world that had taken everything else from them. The thought turned his blood to ice.

Her fingers twitched – so slight it might have been his imagination – but it was enough to make his heart clench. “I failed you once,” he whispered, his voice raw with an emotion he would never show outside these walls. “But I swear on our parents’ graves, I will paint London red with their blood. Jasper Harrington will watch his empire crumble brick by brick, watch his precious daughter’s world burn before I grant them the mercy of death.” The promise hung in the air like a death sentence.

The Harringtons - Jasper and his daughter Jasmine. Once, they had been rivals in London’s cutthroat business world. Then Sebastian had destroyed their empire, stripped them of everything but their name. Yet even in their fallen state, they remained dangerous – wealthy enough to orchestrate revenge, connected enough to disappear into the shadows of high society. His sources whispered of their movements in the city’s underground, of plans still unfolding, of pieces yet to be played in their twisted game. Already, his own pieces were moving into position – a carefully orchestrated dance of destruction that would leave no stone unturned, no sanctuary untouched. Now they had taken their revenge on the one person he had left to love. But they had miscalculated. They thought this would break him. Instead, it had unleashed something far more dangerous.

His fingers curled into fists at his sides, the expensive Italian suit unable to hide the lethal grace of his movements. Sebastian Montague could be gentle, yes - but that gentleness existed only for his sister. For everyone else, there was only the cold, calculating businessman who had built an empire from the ashes of his family’s tragedy. A man who took what he wanted and destroyed anything that stood in his way.

In the shadows of London’s glittering elite, a deadly game was about to begin. Power would corrupt, secrets would surface, and innocence would become collateral damage in a war where no one would emerge unscathed. The pieces were already in motion.

And Sebastian Montague never lost. His revenge would be absolute, devastating, and complete. He would tear apart anyone who had played a part in his sister’s destruction, no matter the cost to his soul.

Power. Betrayal. Revenge.

In this dangerous world of London’s elite, innocence would be the first casualty. And in Sebastian’s world of darkness and vengeance, even salvation could become a curse.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters.
