Power Of The Flames

I am unable to rest my mind for when light reaches land my life will be taken from this world. I spend my last night sleepless as I lie on the chilling concrete, behind the bars of my cellar door. 

When sunrise eventually arrives I am dragged out, my bare knees scraping against the roughness of the ground, becoming bloody and bruised. I have never before felt fear like this, though here it is, trapped in the core of my heart. I refuse to let it stay prisoner inside my body. 

I scream and cry calling out to anyone who will listen, begging them to show me mercy for I am not yet ready to die. Everyone crowds around, watching, as this freak fights for her life. Though of course, nobody does anything. 

People await the execution, excitement filling their veins and pumping through their blood, all as I am tied to a stack of wood. The fire begins and crackling sounds ring past my ears, reminding me of the agony I have yet to come. 

I look straight ahead at the one person I truly love, and together, we mourn the life we could have had, the life that should have happened.
