Sociopathic tendencies
"It's hard to quantify this story. It reads like the memoirs of a FBI profiler. There seem to be a half dozen subplots going on at once. Just when you think you have something figured out, it changes directions. The female lead is a broken, shattered young woman who just turned 18. At the beginning of the story she is running from the house of her adoptive parents, who routinely abused her and used her as a public prop for their image. But who also were selling her to someone. She comes across a man being beaten then shot and left for dead. She helps him out until his people show up and take her hostage, because that's apparently what happens to good samaritans in this story. We later find out the man and his two brothers were the ones that bought the girl, talk about bad luck. The story then moves on, or devolves if you will, into a lesson in the sociopathic tendencies of humans and what damage they can do to others. It takes a while to understand the plotline from here but essentially they are trying to break her down and remake her into another person, without realizing that she is already broken beyond repair. She ends up going to a private school funded by them, she gets bullied...because of course she does, they let her fight her own battles for the most part, until they don't. It's like the three of them can't make up their minds on what to do with her. There are other subplots going on. A search for a missing girl, a mysterious black box that needs a hacker to get into it. Strange messages about the girl and the box that add to the mystique but don't actually explain anything. We are over 61 chapters into this story and no end in sight. This could well be a 200 chapter story at the pace we are moving. The author is trying to create a drama based on obsessive compulsion I think, but also asks questions of the audience after each chapter. I don't see this ending well, I'm not sure it can...nor should it have to. I'll give it another 10 chapters and see where we are at, but if something concrete doesn't happen soon? then that will end my participation. "
