Prologue

My grandpa passed away.

It was a rainy day today.

It’s been a while since the funeral started, but I stood there in front of his grave. I didn’t cry, weep, or mourn. I just wasn’t capable of doing so anymore. I can feel other emotions, just not sadness. Everyone whispered and mourned his death. I saw many old colleagues, friends, and elderly people who knew him.

Suddenly, someone stood next to me, focused on the grave. Considering his soft smile, I assumed he was one of my grandpa’s friends.

“He lived a fulfilling life, didn’t he?” the stranger asked.

I replied casually, “Yeah.” It seemed that was the only answer he needed.

Some time passed, the rain dissipated into the air, and I went home. I lay on my bed, reminiscing about my time with my grandpa.

My name is Amelia. When I was 10, my parents passed away, and my grandpa took me in. That was... the last time I cried in my entire life. My grandpa moved me into his home, ensuring I was alright. Our small, simple house was cozy inside, with old antiques and dusty books.

My grandpa had arranged my parents’ funeral. He was strict but calm and compassionate. He enjoyed his life, and I had good memories with him. I’m sure he had no regrets.

When I turned 18, I moved out and lived in a small apartment. A year later, my grandpa passed away.

Someone called to inform me, saying the funeral service was already arranged. I found the call unusual but assumed it was one of my grandpa’s colleagues.

Now, everything’s done.

All that’s left is to read his will.
