ONE.

FINLEY.

I was panicking.

My whole world was shattering and all I could focus on was my red stained fingers. My father's blood.

The paramedics had told us that he was going to live, but I couldn't be so sure, James ought to have finished what he started.

"You have the right to remain silent or anything you say would be used against you in the court of law." The policeman's monotonous voice rang solidly in my ears,

He couldn't be serious. My husband to be nearly killed my father and now he was going to jail. It was on the list of the most bizarre things that ever graced my pitiful existence.

"Oh, my goodness, Albert." I could hear the distinct wails of my father's newest girlfriend, I couldn't decide if I liked her, I didn't know her well enough.

"Unhand him."

And just like that, everywhere went silent. Even Tricia, my father's girlfriend, had stopped her sobbing,

Everybody's eyes snapped to the entrance and I was taken back by the brutal force that hit my lungs.

There he was.

Eli Knight. Don of the New York Bratva and James's elder brother. I could see the visible hesitation on the faces of the police offers before they reluctantly removed the cuffs.

His footsteps echoed in my head as we watched him move towards us. His dark Armani suit fit his muscular body perfectly and his stone hard face was unmoving.

Just like everytime. And just like everytime too, he managed to have this deafening effect on me.

"Mr. Knight, we're so sorry for the interruption here, but James shot Dr. Albert Terrano."

My father was a medical doctor who worked undercover for high profiled men, he had his own fair share of wealth and was immensely popular. But he was still legal.

He owned several hospitals across the state and the government knew him, this would be a tough case.

Eli's eyes shot back and for a brief moment, it connected with mine, I felt a surge of energy up my chest but I dampened it.

This was not the time.

Suddenly, he walked up to James and grabbed his face harshly, peering into his eyes whilst he spoke.

"Why did you shoot him, James?" His voice was loud and clear, audible with unmistakable power behind it,

It was easy to think that Eli was not very bothered, but I knew otherwise.
Although James was his stepbrother, they loved each other to death.

"I don't owe you shit, Eli. So stop acting like the world is your personal chess board." James gritted out,

I blinked. This was so unlike James, what caused this outburst? I understood if he didn't want to talk to anyone, but Eli...

Nothing registered on Eli's face. In fact, he seemed less interested than he was when he first came in.

"Take him away. That would be all for now." He nodded to the police and immediately they grabbed James, amidst his struggling, they cuffed him back and forced him to stand upright,

"Fuck you, Eli. Fuck you." James shouted, it was haunted... like there was so much pain behind it,

And then I felt it again, the weight of his gaze on my body.

"You, come with me."
