Chapter 1: DESTINY’S PAST

Destiny’s POV

Tomorrow is graduation day, and I am not really looking forward to it, but I do not know if I can just skip it or not. So here I am on the way to the dean’s office to see if I can just skip the whole thing tomorrow. You may be asking yourself why anyone would want to skip their graduation. Well for me it is simple I do not have anyone to come support me, so sitting there with everyone else and their families being there and being the receipt of the presidential award and this years Summa cum laude with a double major and double minor, seems a little embarrassing to me. So, I just want to see if I could get my awards and documents and hit the road. I really do not have any plans as of right now, but I have about $30,000 in the bank and a 2012 black range rover. And the sky’s the limit.

Walking through the halls of my college seem so surreal to me I have spent the better part of my teens and the start of my twenties here. I came to New York University when I was only 16 years old. Yeah, you read that right. I was an orphan; I have never known my parents. The sister from the orphanage said they found me outside on the steps I was only 6 weeks old. I was in a basket with a blanket over me, with an envelope with all my important documents and information in it. Being in the orphanage we were home schooled so to speak. So, I really did not see anything outside the walls. That was until Dean Whitmore came to do some testing with the sister and noticed that I was far more advanced the other kids my age. As he was reviewing with some of the older kids to see if they were ready for the entrance exam. He spotted me in the corner of the room doing the review with them. So, he evaluated my I.Q., and it came back that I had an I.Q. of 375 with and eidetic memory. He also evaluated my blood for what reason I still do not know to this day why. I am now 20 years old and graduating with honors.

As I reached Dean Whitmore’s office, I pull myself out of my thoughts and knocked on his door. This is the best time to catch him. This is his open offices hours, and he has an open-door policy during this time. So just knocking is common with students. I hear the faint sound of someone saying come in. As I make my way into his office, I realize the there are three other people also in his office with him.

“Oh, I am so sorry Dean Whitmore I did not realize you were with people I can come back later if I am interrupting something.” I say as I began to step back towards the door.

“No, you are fine I was just about to send for you.” He says to me as he stands to greet me.

He introduces me to the two gentlemen sitting in front of his desk. The first man is a tall older man. He looks like he can be in his mid to late forties, he has short black coarse hair. He has a caramel complexion. He is not bad looking for a man of his age he even looks like he still works out. His name is John Price. The second man looks to be in his late twenties’ early thirties. he also has black hair but his is more wavey then coarse and a lot longer e is very handsome. He reminds me of one of the marble Greek God statues. His name is Vincent Michaels. The third man I recognized from here. He is Mr. Johnson the colleges advisor. He has always been a strange man to me. I very rarely talk to him. He reminds me of an elf if you could believe it. Dean Whitmore explains that these two men that I do not know are here to speak to me. I inter ask what it is pertaining to. Mr. Price says that it is of a private matter and he and Mr. Michaels was hoping to speak to me in private. This peeps my interest, but I still need to manage my own issues so I ask that they allow me to manage what I came there for and then we can go to the café I use to work at. They seem ok with this, but funny thing is that the dean and the advisor does not seem as ok with this.

“Is there and issue with that dean?” I ask upon noticing the deans and advisor demeanor.

“No, it is just I feel that you should have someone with you that can support you during this.” The dean says with Mr. Johnson co-signing his words.

Mr. Michaels explains that because of the nature of what they need to talk with me about they can not have others involved. After which I state that it is fine, and I am good with not having other in my business. This statement seemed to upset the dean, but he covered it quickly. I quickly change the subject to what I came here to do.

“Dean Whitmore I came here to day to find out if I have to actually walking at Graduation tomorrow?” I ask.

“Why would you not want to walk at your graduation?” Mr. Johnson says.

“Well to be honest sir I do not feel like under the circumstances I will feel comfortable there it is more embarrassing than anything. With me not having family and the fact that most of the student body does not really care for me because of my age and all the success that I have had here.” I explain.

“I think I can understand that.” Mr. Whitmore says knowing all the mental struggle I have had to deal with being as young as I was when I started.

“I was hoping to get all my documents and awards today so I can leave by tonight after I pick up my last paycheck from the café.” I state.

“Well, that’s not an issue we were just going over the files of each student and getting there stuff together, so I have yours right here.” He says picking my file with my stuff in it.

Mr. Whitmore picks up the phone and speaks to his receptionist and ask her to start processing me out of the school and to inform the magna cum laude that he will be doing the graduation speech tomorrow. He tells me how he was glad he got the chance to discover me and wished me well. I do not know how but I could tell this was not something he wanted to do but could not do anything about it. Once the processing was done and I had all my documents I bid them goodbye and walked out with Mr. Michaels and Mr. Price. Once we were out of the dean’s office Mr. Price blow out a breath, I do not think he realized he was holding. I started to speak but Mr. Michaels motion for me not to speak. Having us wait until we were out of the school and was at the café. Upon getting to the café Mr. Price asked to speak with me outside the cafe in their car. I agreed and asked to give me a minute so I can finish here and get my last check. They agreed and waited for me by their car. I walked into the café being greeted by the owner.

“Hey, Mr. Basey, how are you. I just wanted to stop by and grab my last check and thank you for everything that you’ve done for me.” I say as I am walking in the door and spotting Mr. Basey.

“OH, Destiny it’s so good to see you I was hoping I would see you before you left, I got your check right here and a little something extra I hate to see you go but I’m so proud of you for graduating and doing all that you came here to do.” He says headed towards me with an envelope in his hands.

We talk for a moment with a few greetings and salutation, we hugged and went our separate way. I return outside. Where Mr. Michaels and Mr. Price was waiting for me in their car. Once I am inside Mr. Michaels locks the doors as Mr. Price begins to pull papers out of a briefcase.

“O.K., gentlemen what is this all about?” is the first thing out my mouth once I am in the car.

“Well, for starts we are for the law firm of Pierce and Dunham. We represent the Estate of the former owner and CEO Marshall Pierce.” Mr. Michael says as he begins to open his laptop it starts it up.

“I’m sorry I don’t think I know a Marshall Pierce.” I respond with a confused expression on my face.

“No, I guess you wouldn’t you were only a few days old the last time you laid eyes on your father.” Mr. Price says.

“My father…...?” I say still confused not understanding what is going on.

“Yes, your father. You see your parents were two very important people in our world and their deaths were tragedies in our community. For the most part I can only explain to you at this moment that your mother and your father were very successful philanthropist in our world. And you are the daughter of two of the richest people in our community. What I need you to know now is that your parents didn’t abandon you were not giving away you were not unwanted you were just a victim of circumstances beyond anyone else’s control I can’t explain any more than that I wish I could but what I can say is that I’m here to guide you to all the answers that you need myself and Mr. Michaels our exclusively your attorneys.” Mr. Price says.

I sit here shocked and confused wondering what is really going on not sure who, what, when, and why. Who am I really? What is going on? When am I going to ever just have a normal life? Why is all this happening and why now?

“I don’t understand any of this. I have been an orphan since I was 6-week-old now, you’re telling me that I was not abandon. But a victim of circumstance. And that my parents are some wealthy people with what… some kind of bad luck.? I say trying to hold in my emotions.

“Look I know this is a lot to take in, but we can begin to go over all the important stuff now but a lot of this is going to take time to explain. And we really only have time to give you the basics and get you out of here.” Say Mr. Price.

“O.K, so let’s start off by getting you to some form of understanding. Everything I have already told you is true so being that you are the sole heir to the Pierce and Morgan families entitles you as the soul living heir to all their wealth and property. You are the beneficiary to two very profitable portfolios consisting of the entire wealth of not one but two very distinguished families and our worldly and community. This entitles you to take possession of everything that your mother father grandparents’ great grandparents and descendants ever owned claimed or considered valuable and they’re worldly and unworldly possessions belongs to you and you alone as of this moment.” Mr. Price says as he and Mr. Michaels begin to hand me paperwork and a laptop.

They start by explaining all the paperwork that I need to sign and what it is for, then they explain what the next process is which is going to the civil courthouse and filing the paperwork. Afterwards we are to go altogether to a private location to go over some more stuff. But for now, I get out of their car and got to mine with Mr. Michaels and follow Mr. Price to the county clerk’s office to file the paperwork for my inheritance and all the licensing and LLC’S that I may need because of my inheritance. As I’m getting into my car I begin to wonder if this is all a good idea, am I being played for a fool or is this really happening. Could an orphan from a small town out of nowhere actually be somebody. To know that I was abandoned at 6-week-old, found by an old professor and given a chance to become somebody. To now find out that not only am I considers a genius but I’m also probably one of the wealthiest geniuses in the world. Could this all be real, could this be something. or is this just another trick. Am I dreaming is this for real all these questions are running through my mind, and I do not know what to believe, but what I do know is that for some reason I trust these men I don’t know why but I do so I guess I’m about to set off into a new journey. When I woke up this morning I thought my life is only going to begin with me not going to my graduation and taking my degrees and started a new life building myself a new life, finding myself, creating a family of my own now it seems I have a family and big secrets and I’m determined to really find out what the truth is who I am where I come from who my family is or where and why…. main why, was I given away and left to grow in an orphanage all along.
