Chapter 1 Christmas seaso

Alma and  I are excited for our two daughters to arrive soon at the airport.   The snow is coming down hard, and we know the plane landed safely, and now the airport is not allowing other planes to land. When Angela called us, they lucked out with several other plans, Alma and I were happy.  We haven't seen our daughters in three years with all of our busy schedules and being sick.  Our home is decorated, and our daughters bedrooms were just updated in the summer.

" Cecily, they just drove up in two range rivers. Two very handsome men just got out of the driver's seats.  It looks like Gary and Gordon. I am guessing.  They look different with short hair."

Alma opens the door, and Elsa throws a snow ball at Alma.  We all laugh and help them with their luggage.  Alma closes the door.  They all know where their coats go. They remove them and put them away. We welcome them, hug, and kiss our daughters on their cheeks.

" Its coming down hard at their.  We were glad we reserved our vehicles ahead of time. People are scrabbling for vehicles to drive," says Angela.

Your bedrooms are made up as well as the guest rooms. You know where they are. Your mom and I will let you get unpacked.  We have lunch and eggnog with brandy in it for us all," says Cecily.

They left to the rooms while we finished setting up the dining room table.

" Gordon, they are excited to see us.  Are you ready to ask them for my hand in marriage, or are you going to wait?"  " I have your ring in my wool pants. Gary thinks I should wait until after we eat lunch. He is my twin and knows me well enough. You know I have been in love with you for several years."

We finished unpacking and used the restroom to freshen up. We made our way to the dining room. We are the last ones to be seated.

" I made some steak sandwiches with macaroni salad with a mixed green salad with eggnog or hot tea. The stevia or local honey is by the tea pot.  Alma and I didn't think you would make it after listening to the morning news and seeing the snow come down. We definitely will have a white Christmas. We are hoping you all will be up to going shopping tomorrow.  Your packages you sent us are under the tree already. "

Everyone is making their sandwiches as they want with the steak shredded up. There are several salad dressings from us to choose from.

"Gordon and I hope it is okay we came with your daughters. It's not the same after we became orphans."

Alma says we are thrilled they came.  We know we have to still wrap gifts and buy more. They all loved the house was warm and how we decorated it.

" We love how you redid my room. Gordon is staying with me on my room. We have been dating for the past two years. He wanted me to tell you. I justed wanted to tell you in person. "

Our mother's tell us it's okay since my sister and Gary informed them they were staying in the same room. My parents tell us they need to place the guys Christmas stocking out by the main fireplace.  We tell them we  both will do it. We finished our lunch. The four of clean up since our mothers did everything else.

" Ladies you know how much I always loved Elsa.  We work together in the ER on the same shift and have a lot of similar ideas and activities the four of us do with our friends. "

Cecily and I could tell he was having difficulty telling us he wanted our blessing. Cecily makes it easy for him and tells him yes we approve if they get married.  He is relieved.  He tells us his brother nor anyone else except the saleswoman had seen the ring.  I pull it out and everyone goes awe and other words.  I place it on Elsa's left ring finger than we kiss.

Alma gets up and gets four champagne glasses and places them on the table. Cecily opens a bottle champagne and begins pouring it for us all. Cecily and Alma say a few words and we all toast.   Angela takes a photo of us all and them us with my  ring on. She sends it via text to all of our friends including our mothers friends.   They state to us they would like to get married here in our home in  June of next year.  We all say it is quick but it will be done. We all are getting responses of congratulations and about time. We finished the champagne and hear fire engines and ambulances. They are across the street.  The four of us are nurses and go get our coats along with our mothers to go see what we can do. Unfortunately,  our neighbors succumbed to carbon monoxide. We went back inside and said a prayer for them before we put our coats on. They were new neighbors so none of us knew them but it was still sad.  We played Pictionary before we all decided to take a nap.
