NEVER HAVE I FALLEN PART 1

NEVER HAVE I FALLEN

PART 1

The scene opens on a Sunday morning, as Owami was the first to come and arrange for the service ahead. He was very devout, to a point where people around him felt that they had to change their ways to be next to him. He was a straightforward guy that just loved everything that had to with the ministry, and in that came a just as devout lady named Asithandile-Amazulu, or often referred to as Asa in the church. These two were really close, so close that they had a will they-won’t-they, thing that the other congregants would often debate about. Asa was a light-skinned girl, short and very attractive. She was a twelve out of ten, but often saw herself as a four, because beauty was not the standard that she held highly. She believed in character and depth, she wanted her life and testimony to have greater meaning than how her body appeared. She was hairy, took good care of herself, and her fashion sense became the envy of most of the girls. She was the kind that any man wanted, but the truth was that most men couldn’t have a woman like that – not because she was hard to get, she was the kind that you had to earn.

Owami was a self-taught chef that ran a chain around the neighborhood and surrounding areas, he was the pride and joy of the township. Dark in complexion, like dark, dark, the kind that looked matte if he didn’t have any lotion on. Bullied for how he looked when he was younger, he worked hard to take his family out of poverty, and this made him very successful. He was a bald – with a beard, type of guy, that knew how to dress to look the part. He didn’t believe in spending money unless he had to, and so he would often wear no branded clothes, but in the most fashionable way. His biggest problem was that he was the kind that most women would have loved to marry, but not necessarily to actually to date. He was the kind that not only stuck with a woman, he was always in it for the long haul. The problem was that the world was not kind to such men, because he was always handed bad cards that would always cheat and hurt him.

Arranging the sound on the corner, Owami, would steal a glance at Asa, and she would notice that and this became a thing for them. A part of her knew how he felt about her, but at the same time, she never wanted to act on it. Asa was still a virgin at the age of thirty, and she wanted the man that would pop her cherry to be the one that would be on the aisle with her. She rejected most men because she knew that they would see her as an object of pleasure and she was worth more than sheets and temporary forevers. Asa would often find herself walking toward his direction to get a whiff of his cologne, it was one of his signature trades that he never changed throughout his career. It was so distinctive that it would announce him before he even appeared. Even after the years that they knew one another, she always found herself drawn towards him. They shared a hug – which had gotten longer over the years. She closed her eyes and didn’t want to let go, and he would open his and wonder what life would be with a woman like her.

She was a career woman, a driven, hard to please boss that ran a government office in town. She was too strict when it came to work, but also very kind and so the workers liked her, just as long as they did their work. Being one of the youngest to hold her role, she knew that she had to work hard to prove herself and so she never held back. She also coordinated the choir in church, while simultaneously making sure that the cleaning department held up their end. As soon as the hug ended, she told him how much she enjoyed their evening prayer session, and he said the same as well.

The church started shortly after, and the service was very nice. Not tedious, but short and very straight to the point. The pastor soon announced that there was a man that visited her house and made a request. The congregation gawked in anticipation, she asked all the men in the church to come to the front and asked if any of them had anything to say, and they all kept quiet. Amongst those that didn’t know what was going on, Asa, sat on her seat looking at Owami. A part of her wondered if he was the one that would step forward, and he did. He was very popular around the church, so much so, that girls would throw themselves at him, but he never gave in. She had a feeling that he would soon propose, just not to her. He had an ex in the congregation, and they were friendly, and so she figured that they may be hashed things and he was now ready to propose.

He stood to the front and walked out, and a huge sigh of disappointment hovered over the church. The elderly women in the church envisioned him as the man that would marry their daughters and so watching him leave was very daunting. He soon returned with a guitar in his hand, and Asa was the first to be shocked because she didn’t know that he knew how to play or even sing, for that matter. He sat on a chair and sang a song, thanking God. At the end of it, he simply said the words, “For taking your time to make the perfect woman for me.” He then walked towards her playing, ‘Better Together’ by Luke Combs. Not only was the song beautiful, it was her favorite. He kneeled before her and was soon overcome by tears, and without saying a single word, she kneeled down as well and agreed to marry him.
