Chapter 1:A Chance Meeting

Chapter 1: A Chance

The café on Maple Street wasn’t the type of place people visited to be noticed. It was small, cozy, and drowned in the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and old wood. Nickson sat at his usual table in the farthest corner, a worn leather book in his hands. It was an ancient text he’d borrowed from the library archives, one of the many he’d spent years studying.

As he adjusted his glasses and turned the page, the soft hum of conversations around him dimmed. His focus was broken only when he caught a glimpse of someone standing at the counter—a woman in a brightly colored scarf animatedly gesturing as she spoke to the barista.

Persia had an energy about her, the kind that made people lean in when she spoke. Even as she argued about something—likely the artifact she was carrying in her satchel—she seemed magnetic.

Sam, sitting a few seats away, noticed her too, though his interest was far more practical. His day at the auto shop had been grueling, and he came to the café for a rare moment of peace. But her voice carried across the room.

“It’s not just a piece of junk,” Persia said with growing exasperation. “This artifact could rewrite history!”

Sam chuckled into his coffee and muttered, “Yeah, and I’m the king of Atlantis.”

Persia’s sharp eyes caught his comment, and she marched over to his table. “Care to repeat that?”

Sam smirked, unfazed. “I said, it sounds like you’ve got quite the imagination.”

Before Persia could retort, Nickson cleared his throat. “Excuse me. Did you say artifact?”

Persia turned to him, her irritation softening into curiosity. “Yes, I did. Why?”

Nickson hesitated, his fingers lightly tapping the book in front of him. “It’s just… artifacts of historical significance often come with more questions than answers. May I see it?”

She studied him for a moment before nodding and pulling a metallic disk from her bag. “This,” she said, placing it carefully on the table, “is part of something far bigger than any of us can imagine.”

Sam leaned over, his skepticism fading as he caught sight of the strange inscriptions etched into the disk. “Alright, I’ll bite. What’s so special about it?”

Persia’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “It’s a map. Or at least, I think it is. And if I’m right, it leads to the Vault of Eternity.”

Nickson’s expression shifted. “The Vault of Eternity?”

Sam raised an eyebrow. “That’s not a real thing, is it?”

Persia grinned. “Every myth has a kernel of truth. And I’m going to find it.”

Nickson glanced at Sam, then back at Persia. He wasn’t sure why, but something about her determination struck a chord. “If you’re serious about this,” he said, closing his book, “you’re going to need help.”

Sam sighed, already regretting his decision as he added, “Count me in. Someone has to keep you two from getting lost.”
