Story Notes

Hi there! I wrote this story featuring two main characters from different countries: the Philippines and Indonesia. Although Ansel, the Filipino guy, and Renjana, the Indonesian girl, communicate in English, their conversations reflect their backgrounds; Ansel talks in Filipino with his family, while Renjana uses Indonesian with her friends. Yet, I chose to write the novel in English to make it accessible to readers worldwide.

I’ve also added footnotes to explain some terms that might be unfamiliar. I wanted to include these foreign terms to give readers a taste of each character’s culture.

Summary

Ansel, a heartbroken musician and music producer, seeks refuge on Sumba Island after a painful betrayal, hoping to rediscover his creative passion. There, he meets Renjana, a woman escaping the fallout of her divorce. They bond over shared experiences of loss, finding solace in each other's company and creative expressions, with her poetry complementing his music. However, as Ansel's feelings deepen, Renjana questions whether his affection is a genuine connection or simply a way to escape his past, leaving their potential for love uncertain against the backdrop of their healing journey.
