Into my own hands

I’ve been working for this company for years. We do good work. Helping those in need and providing aid to those who seek it. This is what I joined for, doing good honest work while also being able to make a living in this doomed country. The light that illuminates the dark path that people walk through daily.

There have never been any problems, I’m usually able to do my job efficiantly and swiftly. But lately…somwthing just isn’t right. We’re getting complaints and reports saying we’ve denied or just simply haven’t replied to people. People with cancer, illnesses, people that are losing limbs in car wrecks that just can’t afford to pay for it out of their own pockets.

I make my way to the CEO’s office to bring this issue to his attention. There he is sitting and staring at the paper work on his desk. He looks up at me with a warm smile that lessens my nervousness a bit. “Ah Emily, my favorite worker, what can I do for you sweetheart?” He says with an upbeat voice.

“Mr. Thompson sir, sorry to bother you like this. But it seems like our clients are extremely unhappy with their experiences with us. Apparently we’ve been denying and ignoring very tragic incidents that need our attention.” I manuver swiftly and lay a stack of files on his desk, all of them including information about each client and their situation.

He skims over each file, clearly not paying as much attention as I would have hoped for. “Oh this is nothing. They didn’t fit the criteria for our insurence. You know how people can be. All is well Emily, go ahead and get back to work.” He says as he dismisses me with a flick of his hand.

Frustration builds inside of me. These people clearly need and deserve the insurance they are wrongfully paying for. “Sir, I am not finished, if you will just look a bit more thoroughly you will see-“

His face dramatically changes to a blank emotionless look. “Get back to work Emily, and drop it if you value your job here. UnitedHealthCare is delighted to have you, but we will not hesistate to terminate those who are.. unfit to do what is required of them.”

The hairs on my neck began to stand up. The rumors going around were true huh? I truly believed that this company was doing good in a world full of evils. I put my hardwork into this place, only to find out that I was hurting people. “Yes sir.” I said with my unchanging smile. I now see that no wealthy business owner cares. No one gives a shit.

Making my way out of the office I make myswlf a promise to always uphold my motto. We must do for those what they cannot. I guess my methods will have to evolve. Fine, guess we’ll have to do this the hard way.

I walk to my desk and began researching the CEO. His hobbies, his likes, his dislikes, his family, his background, and any other information I can get my hands on. His actions will not go unpunished,

Months and months go by as I plan for the overthrow. I’ve purchased weapons and a warehouse with the hard earned saved money I get from working that useless job. Now all I have to do is get my hands on the slimy bastard.

I’ve followed him to his favorite club, full of strippers even though the shitsack is married. No matter, I’m sure she’s with him for the money anyways. Like husband like wife. I sneak up behind him in the alleyway and inject him with somwthing just so he can go night night. What good would just killing him do?

I have him strapped to a chair in my warehouse now. I take lots of pictures, making sure to keep out anything that could give away my location or identity. His fingers begin to twitch and his breathing gets heavier. For the CEO of a health insurance company you would think he wouldn’t be such a fat fuck.

I dim the lights to make sure he can’t see my face, not just yet. I want him to wonder all of the things he did wrong. I want him to panic and begin searching for the reason he could be in this situation. I’m sure there are plenty.

“..h..hello? What’s going on…? Where am I?” The useless man begins squeaking out question after question. I’m sure those poor people had many questions too. But for my own enjoyment I’ll answer his.

“You’ve commited sins upon sins Brian Thompson. You have no power or influence here. Your days of glory are over.” I give him a once over and get hit with a pang of disgust. Stepping into the spotlight, I watch as his expression turns from confusion to pure fear. There’s a table full of objects I can use to get my message across. Picking up the blow torch seems to make him cower into himself.

“N…no Emily please..I’ll give you whatever you want. Is it money??? I can give it all to you. PLEASE EMILY I’M SORRY I’LL DO ANYTHING” he says while becoming a sobbing and cowardly mess. Tsk tsk. They are so quick to beg once the platform is ripped from underneath them. “It is too late to try and repent now.” Mercy should not be given to those who do nothing but take. “Welcome to hell Brian.”
