The little girl sits at the dinner table next to her parents. They are about to talk about an important topic.

She says,” What’s wrong?”

while she looks at her parents with a worried look.

Her mother says,” Sweaty, do you know what a divorce is?”

The little girl stares at the table. The table that she has more than a dozen memories of eating and laughing with her parents by her side.

The little girl says,” Umm. No, I don’t know.”

She says still staring down at the dinner table. She doesn’t want her parents to know she knows what divorce is because if they knew they would have separated a long time ago.

The little girl’s mom says,” Sigh. Well, when a mommy and daddy don’t love each other anymore they.. Separate.”

She said with a pitch at the end. The little girl didn’t know what to do or say. I mean who would know what to say? The little girl felt a knot in her throat. She felt as if she were suffocating she didn’t know what to do, it was the first time she had felt a knot. Her father looks at her mother and back at her

He said,” We still love you with all our hearts but. Sometimes mommy’s and daddy’s fall out of love.”

The little girl responded,” So you don’t love mommy anymore?”

She looked at her father with hopeful eyes that he would take back what he had said. But he didn’t, he looked at her with a kind of sadness in his eyes that she didn’t understand.

He said to her,” I still love your mom but I don’t want to be with her and she doesn’t want to be with me.”

The little girl said,” Hmm. So is mommy going to leave?”

They looked at each other the facets that the little girl said that she wanted her dad stunned them they knew she loved them but they could never tell who she loved more. They suspected she loved her mother more but now things have changed, for the dad was going to move out but now they are reconsidering with the look they gave each other.

The little girl’s dad said,” Umm. Do you want to stay with your mommy instead of me?”

The little girl looked at her father’s face for a second then at her mom. The thought for a moment and then

She said,” Ummm can’t I stay with both of you?”

Her mother replied,” Well you can’t because me and your father won’t be living together.”

The little girl paused for a moment.

The little girl said,” Then I want to live with Dad and visit Mommy.”

There was a long awful pause. Her father looked at her and then at her mother. He looked relieved that he was her favorite parent, but her mother looked disappointed, though she didn’t want to show it, even though she was doing a bad job of it. The little girl looked confused she didn’t know what the face her mother was making meant.

She looked at her mother then back at her father

The little girl said,” Mommy are you sad? Please don’t be sad I will visit you like you and Daddy said.”

The little girl's mom’s expression changed she looked like a bittersweet moment had flushed her face.

The little girl's parents looked at each other and nodded. The little girl didn’t know what they were nodding at but nodded along.

The little girl's father said,” Okay you can stay with me and visit mom.”

The little girl's eyes widened and a beautiful smile came across her face. Ok go and pack a backpack and we will be back tomorrow for most of your stuff. Sound good?”

The little girl said excitedly,” okay but where are we going?”

The little girl's mother said,” You are going to go where your dad lives.”

The little girl said,” Mmm. Can I stay and pack until tomorrow then Dad can come to pick me up?”

Her mother looked at the little girl’s father and mouthed “Please.” The little girl’s father nodded and looked at the little girl and

Said.” Ok, but tomorrow I will come to take you to where I’ll be staying at and some other time you can come and visit Mom.”

The little girl said excitedly,” YESSS.”

The little girl hugged her father and then her Mother then ran to her room to pick out her clothes for tomorrow and pack what she wanted to take with her.

The little girl’s mom said,” Well thanks for letting her stay with me for a little longer.”

The little girl's dad said,” It’s no big deal I mean she wanted to stay and she will always love and need her mom.”

The little girl’s mom said,” Thanks for saying that but it is getting kind of late, you should probably get going, it’ll get dark soon.”

The little girl’s dad said,” Yup I should.”

The little girl’s dad got up hugged the little girl's mom said goodbye and left.

The little girl's mom got up and walked towards the little girl’s room. The little girl’s mom saw the little girl happily packing for tomorrow in a little suitcase she used for vacation trips that her mother and father used to take her to.

The little girl’s suitcase was her favorite color, sky blue. Her mother had disapproved of the color. For what would have the little girl’s grandmother thought of it.

The little girl's mother could almost see the disappointment in her mother's eyes for just the color of that suitcase, for she disapproved of such colors for girls the little girl's mother had said, but the little girl’s father had stepped in and convinced the little girl's mother to accept the suitcase.

The little girl’s mother said in a whisper to herself,” You really love that suitcase huh.” Understanding downing on her that not everything regarded by her mother's approval.

The little girl saw her mother and said,” Hi mummy!”

With a grin on her face. The little girl’s mom picked the little girl up and spun her around like a little princess.

The little girl's room was filled with giggles from both the little girl and her mom. The moment was something they both needed after all.

The little girl's mom placed her down, she said to the little girl “Now let's get ready for bed so that in the morning you'll be full of energy for your adventures with your dad.”

The little girl looked up at her mom and said with a giggle “Okay!”

The little girl fished down the hallway to brush her teeth, she grabbed the stool and started brushing her teeth with her tooth brush that was also beautiful sky blue.

The little girl's mom watched as she was happily brushing her teeth, after she was done she got down from her stool and with a grin looked up at her mom and said “I'm ready!”

With a swift sweep of her hands, the little girl's mom picked her up and placed her on her side to carry her to her room when she got there she lay the little girl down kissed her forehead, and wished her a good night.

As the little girl drifted off to sleep the little girl could see her mom slowly closing her door, making sure not to make any sound.
