Third Person Point of View
The world burned behind him as he ran. The screams and cries of those dying and those in agony. He continued to run and push through ignoring them. He had to fight his own tears, and continue to push forward. He never thought this day would come. The day his whole life would change.
His pack.
His mate.
His life.
All gone in the blink of an eye. He pushes forward through the fresh snow crunching under his paws. In his mouth he held the only reason for him to keep living. The reason why they had come and disrupted the peace. His daughter.
However, that was only three months ago. Burning images of that day still haunt him. He watches from the porch of the cottage he had built. It was rare not to see him in his beastly form. A wolf the color of the midnight sky. Whose fur the color of burning ash. The darkest shade of black, a rare colorway. He had not met any other wolf, with a fur pattern such as his. As he is a Lycan, a rare wolf breed under the red moon. A phenomenon that only happens every thousands of years. Unlike other wolves, Lycans are gifted a beast, not a wolf.
A wolf is a companion, but a beast is bred specially for a different purpose, making their identities a mystery. However, these beasts come with special powers, each beast giving their new host abilities unlike any others. Beasts live many lives. Living thousands of years and continuing the cycle when their human body dies. However, one beast does not live this way. He has had the same host for thousands of years. As their bond is stronger making them inseparable. So they found it strange when they fell in love, with a she wolf, born into a pack, hidden from the outside world. A pack that many thought has vanished. A pack born underneath the moon goddess herself. A beauty she was, with a fur pattern the color of the moon, and freshly laid snow. Her milky white fur and golden brown eyes are forever burned into his memory.
“Kieran, your thinking about her again aren’t you”
The darken voice pulls the human host from his thoughts. He puff, “How can I not? She was our mate.”
The beast nods in agreement, “For as long as I have lived, I never thought I would be in the spot we are in now. Running.”
“Because that’s what she wants us to do” Kieran replies, “She wants us to keep her safe”
The beast remains quiet. Her dying wish: protect our gift.
“I always forget you are human, even though we have shared the same body for so long” spoke beast
Kieran ignores the beast comment and continues to stare out into the forest. Just listening and watching as the forest lays still. His ears flick for a moment as the wood creaks on the porch. His head snaps in the direction of the sound. His ears molding against the back of his head, as he prepares to bare his fangs. His eyes widen at the small figure standing next to him. Her small frame was something he had yet to get used too. He watches her silently.
She looks up at him with a facial expression like her mothers. The one thing that stood out about her the most was her eyes. Different from his and her mothers: One a golden brown and the other, a fiery orange. He couldn’t quite figure out how they came to be that way. She was just born with them, but maybe this was what the offspring of a Lycan beast, and fengári (moon) goddess creates.
She shuffles her feet looking at the ground, “Papa…den boró na koimithó” She spoke softly in a dialect taught to her by the beast.
Kieran’s eyes soften at the sight of her. He stands up from his lying position and walks over to her. His body transforms from his beast, to his more comfortable form. His pale skin glowing underneath the light of the porch light. He bends over to pick up his daughter, but not before slipping on a pair of sweats laying on the porch next to him.
She resembled her mother so much, from her caramel skin complexion to her bouncy curly hair that sat on her head. Honestly he wouldn’t think she was his, except for a few facial similarities and her personality. Kieran places a kiss on her cheek and walks into the cabin. He closes the door behind him. Passing through the small living room, he walks over the cot he has set up in the corner of the room. He sits down placing her on his lap. She plays with the silver crescent chain around her neck. A gift from her mother on her fifth birthday. He rocks her back and forth slowly and starts humming.
“You are my treasure, my only treasure.” He sang, “you make me happy when skies are gray. You’ll never dear, how much I love you. Nobody will take my treasure away.”
He continued to hum softly repeating the same lines. He had learned the song from his mate remembering the first time he heard her sing it. Sadly he only remembered a few lines, but these lines were enough to help put her to sleep. Her chest rises and falls as she sleeps.
He gently sets her down and pulls the cover over her. She yawns cutely and buries her head into her pillow. Feeling that she was in a deep sleep, he stands up. His beast had remained silent for a moment. He slowly morphs back into his wolf, his bones cracking in the process. He lays on the floor besides her cot. He glances at her and continues to get lost in thought.
Ktínos, den boroúme na synechísoume na tréchoume Kireran spoke to his beast.
The beast appears in the front of their shared mind, Dikaíomá sou. They will eventually find us. They did it before.
Kieran frowns remembering the battle. He only barely managed to get away, but had seen his daughter’s true abilities. Powers she can’t control just yet. Raw emotions bring them to the surface, and he has even come to truly understand them himself.
Suddenly a powerful aroma fills the air causing the beast and Kieran to stand up. A smell all too familiar.
Beast
I know Kieran… we need to move NOW!
As if the wolves had heard them a powerful thud came from the front door. From the outside three shadowy figures stood on the porch. Without thinking, Kieran gently bites down on daughter ’s shirt and holds her like a pup. He crashes through the back window just in time as the shadows have just broken in. At this point, kieran allowed the beast to take over.
The tips of Kieran’s black fur turn red as his eyes do the same. Their pupils dilate as his features become more animalistic. Underneath their steps and snow melted as the fire underneath their paws became prominent. Within a flash of red light, they disappeared into the night. The shadows of the wolves watch, their leader slowly walking into the house. He snarls again watching the wolf disappear into the night.
“The red Lycan lives,” he mutters. “But not for long. Follow them, and bring me the girl alive”

The beast comes to a halt stopping after what felt like hours to traveling, their body coming to hard thud. Kieran takes over allowing the beast to fall under the surface for a moment. Kieran huffs in annoyance. Standing up ignoring the shooting pain in their body. For most of the journey his daughter had managed to sleep, but for the moment she was awake and riding along his back as they usually did.
“Papa” Her voice breaking the silence.
He grunts in reply.
She tugs on his fur again, gaining his attention. She points in the direction of a statue in the middle of the trees. Kieran’s eyes widened a bit at the sight. Two dragon statues stand in the base of the tree lines. With a slow sniff of the air and a small howl, new information appears before them. Beast bubbles to the surface again.
Kieran, this the pack of the lycan beast Zephyr. The wind demon. However, Zephyr has been dormant for sometime, but judging by just the smell, this is a powerful pack. Through those statues represent a gateway to another domain.
Kieran nods in understanding, Do you think it’s safer on that side? Do you think he would be able to find us beyond those statues?
Maybe… wait what do you have in mind?
Kieran glances at his daughter from the corner of his eye, To keep her safe.
Kieran… I think you’re right.
For the moment Kieran gently knocks his daughter off his back and looks over at her. She stares in confusion at him but wraps her arms around his neck. He nuzzles his head into her neck and inhales her scent one last time. He needed her to be safe.
“I love you papa” She whispers, holding him tighter.
“I love you too Kalilah. My treasure” he replies through their mind link, “but forgive me for what I am about to do”
Kalilah pulls away softly looking at him in confusion. He gently licks the side of her neck, causing a mild burning sensation to warm her skin. She winces a bit, as the swirling design of a crescent moon burns its way into her skin. As quickly as the sensation starts it disappears, along with the mark.
Kieran tilts his head back and lets out a long and powerful how, shaking the very ground they stood. Within an instant two powerful growls echo from beyond the treelines. Kieran looks down at his daughter with pity before allowing the beast to take over. Beast’s eyes glare down at his daughter. His muzzle pulls into a snarl. He takes a menacing step forward and snaps his jaws at the girl.. Kalilah falls back into the snow in fear.
She crawls backwards as Beast takes slow strides towards her. She whimpers and cries in confusion.
“Papa..” she cries, “Me tromázeis”
Beast continues to growl, and lets out once more a powerful howl. She cries out more back up into the statue staring into the blood red stained eyes of her father. Before he could take another step forward, a gray wolf about the same size as Kieran appears from behind the trees. Next to him stood a brown wolf a bit smaller. A few other wolves appear from beyond the trees, standing in the shadows. The gray wolf growled menacingly followed by the brown wolf. The Alpha wolf stood in front of Kalilah’s crying form, and continued to growl. The alpha’s eyes glow a striking gold color as he narrows his eyes at Kieran.
These are the Alpha and Beta of this pack. The energy they radiate is strong, this alpha is a Lycan as well. She will be in good hands. Beast spoke, and our mark should help mask her scent.
Kieran nods in understanding. He’s a Lycan but not like him. A lycan without a beast is just a wolf, with a strong and powerful aura: Alpha’s. Kieran snarls at the alpha but does not dare to challenge him. His plan worked. Kalilah sobs more glancing at the wolves surrounding her. Her eyes glance over to her dad, who she continues to stare at in horror. Kieran takes one last look at his daughter before letting out one more howl and taking off into the woods. The beta followed behind Kieran leaving the alpha behind. With a bark, the wolves chase after the beta and follow him into the woods.
The alpha snarls and turns in the direction of Kalilah. She backs away and continues to cry.
You’re going to be okay, little one spoke the alpha through mindlink.
Kalilah taken back cries more. Alpha gently rubs his head against hers softening her tears. He looks at her closely, noticing the color of her eyes. His eyes soften even more, as he takes in her aroma. ‘A strong power she radiates. No wonder that other wolf was trying to get her. She’ll be safe now’. He thought to himself.
He notices her eyes start to cloud over as she falls into the snow. Slowly he grabs a hold of her top and carries her in his muzzle past the statues and beyond their gates. From the shadows, Kieran and Beast watch as their child is taken away.
She’ll be safe now… we’re sorry treasure
We love you and we will be finding you in the future, Kalilah.
