The beginning
The air was still as a gentle breeze brushed over the vast grassland. The short, delicate blades of grass barely rose above a man’s fingertips, swaying softly in the wind. In the middle of this endless field stood a single, imposing tree.
Its thick trunk and spreading branches gave it an almost timeless presence, offering a cool, shady refuge from the relentless midday sun.
Beneath this ancient tree lay a boy of about fifteen. His thick black hair was slightly messy, as if teased by the wind, and his closed, dark eyes suggested he was deep in sleep.
For a moment, the meadow was silent except for the soft rustle of the grass and the faint whisper of leaves in the tree.
Slowly, the boy stirred. His eyes opened to a view dominated by the twisting branches overhead.
For a brief second, confusion crossed his face as he tried to make sense of the sight. His gaze shifted from the intricate canopy to the soft grass on which he lay, then to the massive trunk behind him, its rough bark etched with time.
“How is this tree so enormous?” he wondered aloud, blinking rapidly. As he sat up, he noticed his clothes.
“Why am I wearing leather clothes?” he asked in a low, uncertain voice, glancing down at his brown leather pants that ended just below his knees and a loose black tunic that hung over his frame. Everything about his outfit was strange and unfamiliar.
Pushing himself to sit fully upright, he looked out over the field. Before him stretched an endless expanse of green, a gently sloping meadow that rolled off into the horizon without interruption.
The wind made the grass ripple like waves on a quiet sea, the vibrant green swaying in harmony with the soft sunlight.
The boy sat in silence, mesmerized by the simple beauty of the scene. Finally, he murmured, almost as if in a dream,
“How beautiful…”
The words, barely louder than a whisper, carried a hint of wonder. Despite his confusion, the sight of the endless grassland, the cool shade of the tree, and the gentle murmur of the wind stirred something in him—a feeling that this place was both enchanting and mysterious.
As he shifted his gaze along the slope of the meadow, his eyes caught sight of a river at the far edge, where the land dipped to meet a ribbon of clear water. The river shone like liquid silver under the sun, its surface as clear as glass.
It flowed slowly, its presence both calming and strong, a natural force gently carving its way through the land.
Beyond the river, a forest began to form—a line of trees that started sparse but soon grew dense, their intertwined branches creating a dark, inviting canopy.
The sight of the river and forest filled him with a mix of curiosity and quiet apprehension. They seemed to beckon him forward, whispering promises of hidden secrets.
“This is incredible,” he thought, his mind buzzing with questions.
Where was he? How did he end up here? And why did everything feel so vivid—so alive?
His thoughts grew more agitated. “What... what am I even doing?” he muttered, his voice shaky and unsure. Looking around, he saw no signs of human life—no buildings, no other people, nothing familiar.
Only the vast grass, the solitary tree, and the gentle sound of the wind remained.
A sense of unease began to creep in.
“Did someone kidnap me? Is this some kind of joke?” he demanded aloud, though his words fell into the open space without an answer. The quiet, once soothing, now felt oppressive.
He pressed his hands against the soft grass as if seeking support, ready to stand. But just as he started rising, a sharp pain shot through his head.
“Ahhh!” he cried, clutching his head as if it were on fire.
The pain was sudden and overwhelming, forcing him back down onto the grass with a dull, heavy thud.
Lying on his back, Adam—he would later learn his name—gritted his teeth and tried to endure the agony. The world around him blurred as memories began to flood his mind.
He saw flashes of a small, humble village encircled by dense forests. He recalled a modest home where a family lived—a place filled with familiar faces. He saw himself as a young boy, the youngest of his siblings, and heard distant echoes of voices he once knew.
Images of his father, a hard-working farmer with calloused hands, and his gentle mother, busy in the warmth of their home, flashed before him.
The village, surrounded by towering trees that seemed to touch the sky, was all he had ever known. He remembered whispered tales of a place called the Magus Tower, where heroes performed mighty deeds, but he had never imagined such wonders could be real.
Slowly, as the memories subsided, so did the pain. The throbbing in his head dulled until it faded into a distant ache. He relaxed his grip on his head and let his arms fall limply by his sides.
For a moment, he simply lay there, chest rising and falling with each breath, lost in thought.
When his eyes opened once more, he whispered, half in disbelief,
“What kind of joke is this? I’ve transmigrated… into a fantasy world?” The realization was as shocking as it was surreal. This wasn’t a dream; it was real. Somehow, he had been thrust into an entirely new existence.
He sat up more steadily this time, a heavy sigh escaping him as he reflected on the life he once knew—a life of college classes, part-time jobs, and the steady support of his parents.
His mind wandered to the thought of how worried they must be, though he dared not linger on it. “I wonder how worried my parents must be…” he murmured, his voice tinged with regret and uncertainty.
For as long as he could remember, Adam had secretly dreamed of escaping his ordinary life and venturing into a world of magic and adventure.
Now that he was here, the reality was both exhilarating and heartbreaking. “This is exactly what I always wanted,” he said softly, though a bitter laugh soon followed. “And now I’m upset?”
Gathering his resolve, Adam pushed himself to his feet. The meadow, once a source of confusion, now seemed like a fresh start—a new beginning filled with possibilities.
He looked out over the endless expanse of green, where the grassy slope met the shimmering river and the dark forest in the distance. The wind stirred gently, as if encouraging him to take the next step.
With a determined gesture, he raised his arms to the sky, his fists clenching as if to grasp his destiny. His loose black tunic fluttered in the breeze, and his voice rang out clearly:
“I’ll live this life to the fullest! I’ll fulfill all my dreams—no one will tell me what to do!”
His shout echoed across the open field, carrying a mix of hope and defiance. In that moment, all the confusion, regret, and uncertainty seemed to fade away.
The new world before him, with its endless grassland, gleaming river, and mysterious forest, promised endless adventures. The burden of his old life melted into the background, replaced by a spark of excitement and determination.
Adam’s heart pounded with anticipation as he took a deep breath, feeling both the weight of his past and the lightness of possibility.
He knew there would be challenges ahead, but he also knew that this was his chance to write a new story—one where he could become more than he ever imagined.
As he stood there, the wind whispered through the grass and the distant murmur of the river seemed to speak of secrets waiting to be discovered.
For the first time since his unexpected journey began, Adam felt a glimmer of hope. Even though he was alone and unsure, he sensed that every moment held the promise of something extraordinary.
With a final, determined glance at the expansive meadow, Adam took a tentative step forward. Each step was measured, yet filled with purpose as he began to move toward the horizon where the river and forest beckoned him.
Though his mind was still racing with questions about who he was and how he came to be here, he knew one thing for certain: this was a new beginning, and he intended to seize it with every ounce of strength he had left.
In the soft light of the fading day, as the wind carried away the last remnants of his past, Adam’s voice softened to a quiet promise, “I’m ready for whatever comes next.”
And with that, he disappeared into the vast, open world, leaving behind the silent meadow and the mysterious tree, stepping boldly into a future full of unknown wonders.
