Chapter 1
You know what I always wanted to be one of them' Anne sighed.
They were roving around the country - a leisure pursuit both of them anticipated. From the hight they could look out over the foothills where the commoners dwelled and the valley which was a home to the nobles. She was pointing to the mud built slums of the foothills.
'That's easier said than done. They have to struggle around-the-clock just to live hand to mouth.'
'I know I've seen them work since my birth. And their life has always fascinated me anyway.' She snapped.
Commoners don't spend life idly unlike the nobles. They have a new to-do list for every day. But than they can do things the nobles can't. They can travel to any kingdom without resistance. They are not limited by the boundaries and genes. Legend has it that their blood is a result of amalgamation of all the kingdoms. They were defeated in the Great War and thereafter lost their nobility.
The nobles are restricted by their blood to excel in one power only. Commoners, on the other hand, had multiple powers but they were attenuated after the defeat. Contrary to the commoners, the nobles would never marry out of the blood because it was against the honour and not to mention they would loose their invincibility if they shared their strengths to the rest through marriage.
Though the palace was state of the art but Anne seemed to be fed up of her purposeless life. Most of the year she spent inside her palace with nothing to do. It was only in summers that Shah visited their kingdom and she slipped out of the palace with him. She knew asking for permission was flogging a dead horse so Shah would make her necessary arrangements to unnoticeably creep out of the palace.
'I know what you want but I can't help it at the moment.' She always reminded him of his parents. Lovebirds from two different kingdoms who had to sacrifice life for love's sake just when their only child turned one. He did not want to repeat history. He would find a way out he knew.
