Veil of Deception
As the sun dipped below the horizon, it cast a golden glow over the strange landscape before them. Alecdora and her half-sister, Farrah Alabaster, approached the Black Bella’s grand front gates, both in awe of its beauty. The view was amazing. The towering gates comprised rare dark iron, found only in the demon world. Intricate patterns ornamented the gates, which seemed to come alive in the fading dusk light.
The majestic structure stood out against the evening sky, casting a dramatic silhouette as the first stars twinkled overhead. The gates gleamed like polished obsidian, a testament to the talent and passion of its designers—genuine artists who had poured their lives into this masterpiece.
A stunning mural in the center of the gates represented the mythical love story of Princess Estella Helios, daughter of the Sun Dragon formed from the first light, and Valerius Nyx, son of the dragon born from the darkness at creation. This scene depicted the goddess’ ethereal beauty, with her garments flowing like sparkling starlight and her hair spun from golden rays of sunshine, framing her delicate face with expressions of love and tenderness.
Emperor Valerius Nyx stood next to her, exuding charisma. His dark cloak surrounded him like the night sky, interwoven with silver threads that resembled the stars of the demon world and wound through his silvery hair. His stare burned into the goddess, a molten mixture of longing and anguish that mirrored the distance between their worlds. Theirs was a fated love, full of trials and tribulations.
Interwoven celestial themes and gloomy tendrils encircled the lovers, representing the delicate balance of their forbidden romance. Stars twinkled in the background, and ghostly wisps of smoke wrapped around Valerius, symbolizing his status as the underworld’s ruler over three realms.
The artistry portrayed a beautiful story of two hearts that battled the odds and came together, transcending the barriers that separated their worlds. Because of this coupling, their goddess mother bore three sons, establishing a bloodline that connected the Heavenly and Demon Realms. These sons were also relatives of Heavenly Emperor Kairos Helios, and their dual nature represented the conflict of light and darkness—a real incarnation of Yin and Yang.
Alecdora approached Farrah’s side, her customary black hair flowing in soft waves down her back and framing her exquisite features. Her stunning blue eyes echoed her mother Juniper’s love of water and gleamed with eagerness, mimicking the appeal of the demon realm beyond the black iron gates.
In her hand was a silver token with intricate designs, and the number three showed her permission to enter the establishment’s third floor. The token shone in the fading light, suggesting future pleasures.
Alecdora was gorgeous and exuded an unearthly glow. Her strawberry-blonde hair cascaded like liquid gold, sparkling with scarlet undertones as it absorbed the last rays of sunshine. They framed her heart-shaped face. Her violet eyes, reminiscent of amethysts, carried an interesting intensity that conveyed both curiosity and caution, implying a pearl of wisdom well beyond her years—a unique blend of her Demi-goddess background and fervent spirit.
As they approached the gates, a mixture of fear and wonder washed over Alecora. The Black Bella was infamous for her hedonism and risk-taking, with moral lines blurring in pursuing pleasure. She looked at Farrah, who appeared unconcerned and full of excitement.
“Are you sure about this?” Alecora asked, her voice low and filled with trepidation. She prayed her sister would reconsider.
Farrah turned to her half-sister, a cheeky but authoritative smile on her lips. “Of course! It’s going to be an adventure. Stick with me, and we will have a great time.”
Her stepmother, the celestial goddess Juniper, assigned Alecdora the critical job of accompanying Farrah covertly into the demon world. The Black Bella’s laws established it as a neutral zone between the three realms.
Juniper held high status among the celestial entities as a revered water deity, admired for her stunning appearance and ethereal grace. Alecdora was at odds with their feelings towards Juniper, noticing flaws in their leadership skills. Juniper’s heavenly status as a respected deity was a joke anyone who took a closer look would see more devilish characteristics than celestial.
Farrah had reached the age of ten thousand years and was now officially an adult. Juniper, celebrating this truth excessively, enabled her daughter to explore the darker delights of the demon realm freely. Farrah’s arranged marriage was already being discussed, and Juniper saw no harm in allowing her to pursue her interests before settling down.
Juniper seemed to have a plan for reversing Farrah’s corrupt ways. Even with her stepmother’s approval, Alecdora couldn’t shake her worries about Farrah gaining more independence. Juniper had raised Farrah in a sheltered and loving environment, giving her the freedom to explore dangerous temptations that she was not yet wise enough to handle. It was a trend among the younger goddesses to seek pleasure in the demon realm, a risky pursuit that filled Alecdora with fear as Farrah tried to keep up with her peers.
The two girls stood confronting the Black Bella, a towering monument to hedonistic aspirations and immorality. Alecdora was uneasy. The architectural masterpiece stood eight stories tall, but only seven floors were available to visitors. Whispers circulated that each level represented one of the seven deadly sins, serving as a vivid reminder of the terrible desires that existed within both men and gods.
Alecdora became fascinated and anxious as she observed the bright scene around her. The Black Bella’s attraction was alluring, attracting both demons and celestial creatures who sought sanctuary in its seductive embrace of luxury.
But despite its alluring beauty, an unnerving sensation pricked Alecdora’s skin, making the hair on her arms stand on edge. Rumors circulated the Black Bella was owned by demon nobility, and that the white-haired sons of the Death God, known as Soul Reapers, frequented it. The eighth floor remained a prohibited region, accessible only to those with special invitations. Fortunately for Farrah, she only had a token for the third floor.
The first seven floors were only open to individuals with approved tokens. Only the privileged were permitted entry to the mysterious eighth floor. Alecdora was familiar with noble legends from both kingdoms but had never met a royal deity.
In the Black Bella entryway.
The aroma of incense and musk heightened Alecdora’s senses in the air. Gilded chandeliers dripped with crimson crystals, casting shattered light on demon immortals dressed in silken opulence and angelic visitors leaning into newfound wickedness.
Black Bella servants dressed in silken shadows glided past them, their eyes burning like smoldering embers as they directed guests to the shimmering portal engraved into the wall, each going to a different floo4. Farrah grasped her silver token for the third level, its surface shimmering as if humming in anticipation.
Farrah’s eyes glittered as Alecdora watched her sister grasping her token, which had a silver surface carved with a fox, symbolizing the third tier’s sin, lust.
Alecora froze as the masked attendants approached them, their motions too fluid and deliberate. One offered a glass filled with nectar that sparkled like liquid starlight. Farrah accepted without hesitation, laughing out loud as she drank deeply—too deeply. “It is divine, Alec! Try it!”
Alecora shook her head no, her attention fixed on the portal elevator that was soaring through the center of the structure. Each floor possessed its unique energy pulse, she sensed.
The scent of lust’s love fills the air with a heady combination of blooming flowers and powerful pheromones. Greed emits a cold, metallic aroma with every clink of coins, a tangible reminder of its irresistible allure and the dangers of gambling.
The lurking presence of Wrath brings a hint of smoke and burning, an ominous warning of its destructive fury. On the unsettling eighth tier, where silence reigns supreme, there is a musty odor that creeps up from the depths below, the stench of an old, abandoned space filled with secrets and shadows.
The sin of gluttony, with its tempting allure and dangerous consequences, linked the fiery depths of Dante’s Inferno to the opulent Black Bella. The grandiose setting only enhanced its enticing nature.
Alecdora was not able to resist the pull towards the first floor, her curiosity overpowering any sense of caution. As she stepped closer, she saw a grand fountain adorned with intricate carvings of winged serpents with fanged mouths spewing forth a never-ending supply of rich, crimson wine.
Farrah, her sister, was already inching closer to it, her footsteps slow and deliberate, as if she were under a spell. Alecdora’s warning hissed through clenched teeth, her eyes wide with concern as she watched her half-sister succumb to the alluring display before them.
The object of temptation gleamed in the dim light, its contents swirling like a dark sea of liquid velvet. Alecdora could almost taste the sweet aroma of the fruit-infused wine wafting towards them. Her sister reached out and plucked an empty glass from the table, her movements graceful as she dipped it into the depths of the rich liquid.
Alecdora held her breath as Farrah brought the glass to her lips, her pale skin glowing in the warm light. The sound of her sister’s soft slurping echoed in the quiet room as she savored every sip of the intoxicating drink.
Farrah was powerless against the spectacle before her until a sudden roar of applause broke through the air. All eyes turned to a figure cloaked in smoke and draped in garnet velvet as they entered the Black Bella’s lavish halls.
As he passed, the throng parted as if terrified. Pale hair is interwoven with blackthorns. eyes so gold they looked like the sun.
A soul reaper.
His eyes lingered on Farrah for too long before he vanished through the gateway leading to higher floors... or possibly beyond.
“Did you see that?” Alecora clutched Farrah’s wrist, her pulse racing as whispered warnings about Death’s sons reappeared.
Farrah’s full lips curled into a sly smile as she took a daring sip of the forbidden ambrosia, now infused with a curious iridescent fluid that seemed to shimmer and dance around its edges. “Relax, sister!” She purred, her voice laced with mischief. “Let loose and join in on the fun.”
With a flick of her wrist, she batted away my hand and sauntered towards the center of the Black Bella’s tower, where the portal hummed with power. It was also where her group of friends had gathered, their excited chatter and laughter filling the air as they too had just arrived.
The tower itself loomed over us, casting shadows that seemed to dance and twist in the dim light. Farrah’s confident steps echoed against the stone walls as she made her way to join her friends, her mischievous grin never faltering.
Her half-sister had left her to join her group of friends, their arms intertwined in merriment as they walked towards the elevators, tokens in hand.
The rules of the Black Bella forced Alecdora to remain in the lobby, her feet firmly planted on the marble tiles as she gazed longingly past the check-in counter and restaurant beyond. She could feel the warmth of the fire from Dante’s Inferno, famous for its mouthwatering delicacies grilled over an open flame, licking at her skin. The lack of a token trapped her on the first floor.
Frustration gnawed at her as she took small sips of the lobby’s water, trying to distract herself from the tantalizing scents coming from across the room. The polished tables and plush chairs lured her, promising comfort and a respite from the dreary lobby. Without the elusive token, she remained trapped, watching the free passage of others.
As she sat there, Alecdora inevitably wondered what delicacies she might have indulged in if only she had a token to venture past the check-in counter. Her sister was too selfish to secure her a token for supper. She sighed and took another sip of lobby water, resigning herself to her current predicament. At least she had a prime view of the bustling lobby, filled with people coming and going, their tokens dangling around their necks as they headed off to enjoy all that Dante’s Inferno offered.
The servant’s voice echoed in the grand entrance of Dante’s Inferno, welcoming Alec with a bow. In his hand, he presented a gleaming bronze coin, stamped with the image of a plump little pig’s butt. Laughter bubbled up in Alec’s throat at the absurdity.
What secrets lay beyond the veil? What dangers lurked in the shadows of this infernal palace? She hesitated, questions swirling, then accepted the coin. “Thank you,” Alec had managed, knowing she’d crossed the threshold into a world from which there may be no return.
