Chapter 1
It had been raining all day. Mila was watching the raindrops on the window and wishing it would stop. She wanted to go to Westmount Park to play with her mommy.
“Rain, rain go away, come back on a school day…It’s a Saturday today!” sang her sister Leila. Suddenly the sun came out and the rain began to stop. Mila and Leila were so happy they danced around the living room.
“Mommy, mommy, the rain is going away. Can we go play in the park? Please oh please.” Her mommy looked outside and saw that indeed the sun was out. “Yes my dears we can go to the park. Please put on your raincoat and boots just in case.”
With a big smile Mila and Leila said “Okay mom, we will. We're so happy we can go play. I love going to Westmount Park.”
The park was filled with big fresh puddles. Mila was so excited to go jump and splash in them. “Mommy, can I go splash in the puddles?” Her mom remembered how much fun it was when she was a kid and said, “Yes my dear just be careful.”
Mila ran grabbing her younger sister to the nearest puddle and started stomping her feet and splashing around in the water. Instantly they began singing loudly “I love puddles. I love puddles. I love them so. La-la-la-dee-la.”
“OUCH!! OUCH!! Please stop jumping on my nose!! It hurts.” Mila looked down at her rubber boots to see what was saying that.
She was surprised to see that it was a purple puddle shark. “AHHHHHH…Shark! Shark! It’s a shark!” Leila screamed. “Ah...It’s okay, I am a friendly purple puddle shark. My name is Pattie,” it said.
“Oh phew…You really scared me…I’m Mila and this is Leila and we love to jump in puddles. Can we play together?”
“Yes I would like that. I get pretty lonely because most children are scared of me and don’t want to play because I am a shark,” she said. “I only do like friendly sharks” said Leila.
The three splashed, laughed and played together for hours in the park. Before they knew it was getting dark.
“My sweetpeas, it is time for dinner. Daddy is waiting for us.” Mila and Leila were sad when her mommy said this. “But we don’t want to go. We are having too much fun playing with our friend Pattie. She is a purple puddle shark.”
The girl's mommy smiled and said, “We can come back to play with Pattie next time there are puddles in the park. I promise.”
Leila looked down at her rubber boots in the puddle and said, “Pattie, I have to go now but I will come back another day to play.”
Pattie smiled from her puddle. “Bye Mila...bye Leila, see you soon!” Pattie was so happy to have made new friends and couldn’t wait for the girls to come back.
“Bye Pattie! I’ll come back soon” Mila yelled as she walked home with her mom.
Mila and Leila could barely wait to get home to tell her daddy all about their new friend Pattie, the friendly purple puddle shark. They were so excited for the next rainy day to come so she could to go out to play with her new friend Pattie the purple puddle shark.
