Good Morning, Sunshine
I woke up the the sound of my alarm blaring right next to my head. I groaned and reached over, fumbling around for a moment as my eyes adjusted to the light streaming in from the curtain-less blinds. I grabbed my phone and dismissed my alarm before tossing it on my bed next to me.
I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and sat up groggily. "What time is it..." I grumbled to myself as I pushed my blanket from my legs to the foot of the bed and stood. I stretched my arms out and cracked my neck. I turned back around and grabbed my phone, it was 6:40AM. I glanced over at the window, the orange and yellow light dancing off of the window and seeping into my room. "It's too early.."
I let out a yawn and reached up to brush my hair out of my eyes. I had dark brown hair that reached my shoulders, I thought of growing it out but decided against it in the end, I liked how it was now. I turned to my nightstand and snatched my glasses off of it. Now that I was able to see, I made my way out of my room and into the hallway.
I had to be quiet as not to wake up my sister who slept down the hall from me. I would never hear the end of it if I disrupted her beauty sleep. I rolled my eyes, thinking of the one time Id woken her up and she raised hell within seconds.
I trudged into the kitchen and opened the fridge, scanning the contents before grabbing the tea. I shut the fridge and poured myself a cup of tea before chugging it down and tossing the cup into the sink and putting the tea back. I stretched again and went back down the hall, the old floors creaking with each step I took.
There was no window in the hallway nor any lights, but I could see the golden sunlight streaming in and flooding the hallway in a yellow-orange light. I smiled to myself, it was sunny out for once. It had been raining non-stop for days, I'd nearly forgotten what the sun looked like.
I rifled through my closet before settling on an over-sized tee and baggy sweats. I got dressed and pulled on a jacket just in case. I snatched my phone off the bed and grabbed my bag. By now it was time for me to go down to the bus stop. I glanced at the clock as I grabbed my keys, 7:01AM. I was late by one minute getting out the door, but so what.
I walked outside, breathing in the fresh air. I locked the door and made my way to the sidewalk, Time to start my 4 block walk to my stop. I pulled my earbuds out of my pocket and plugged them into my phone, scrolling through Spotify. Once I settled on a song I put my phone back in my pocket and continued walking.
Once at the bus stop I saw my friend Andre and I grinned, taking one earbud out. Andre walked up to me and punched my arm playfully.
"Yoo, you didn't hop on last night."
"Sorry..I had work to do then I was knocked out."
"It's alright man, Dez kept throwing the matches anyway."
He laughed slightly and I smiled, I'd been a part of this friend group since the first day of 4th grade. We'd all stuck together since, me, Andre, and Dez. The Legendary Trio.
"We were going on a 2v2 and I died and Dez absolutely threw it man, he went to throw a frag and ended up blowing himself up!" He laughed and I shook my head.
"Sounds about right."
"Then on top of that he wanted to say it wasn't his fault and said the game was lagging when he'd been playing just fine the whole time." He smiled and shook his head, "That boy cant play for shit."
I laughed, "He never has been able to, I dunno what you expected. Dez has always sucked at shooting games."
My phone pinged at the same time as Andres, "Speak of the devil," I looked and saw that the text was from the group chat with Dez in it.
He'd simply texted goodmorning, like he always did. Every. Single. Morning.
I didn't mind it much but it got on Andres nerves for some reason. He rolled his eyes and texted goodmorning back to him. The bus pulled up in front of us, coming to a stop with a loud screech.
The doors opened and Andre and I stepped onto the bus, moving to the seats in the back.
I turned to him as I leaned on the window, "Wake me up when we get there."
