The Alpha

The Alpha - Asher

“Who is that?” I asked as my eyes followed the unknown woman through the club.

My friends and I were out tonight celebrating Pippin’s twenty-fifth birthday. Not that we needed a reason to go out, we went out to the club every two weeks, and now we just had an excuse. We were in the Muggle world. Yeah, I said it. My friends were obsessed with Harry Potter and instead of calling them humans, they called them Muggles. My Beta, Connor, was taller than me, almost as broad. But there he sat next to me with a Harry Potter t-shirt on. You wouldn’t think a wolf lay beneath it, one of the strongest wolves I’d seen in my life.

I was the Alpha of our pack, The Shadow Pack. I became Alpha two years ago after my father lost control and killed his own Beta. I had no other choice than to banish him. I didn’t know what was wrong with him. My father had always been the quiet brooding type but killing his best friend... that was something else.

Two of our closest friends had already found their Mates. Connor, Pippin and I hadn’t had that luck just yet. But we didn’t mind really, we enjoyed our freedom, to hook up with anyone we liked. It wasn’t that we had a lack of choices.

So back to the beautiful sight in front of me. The woman who weaved through the club, her hips already swaying on the music, intrigued me. I scratched my stubble as my eyes followed her. She had long cinnamon-brown hair that was half braided in the middle. She wore a little navy blue dress, showing off her long, tanned legs. With the flickering lights and the distance, I couldn’t see the colour of her eyes. There were a lot of gorgeous women here tonight and I danced with a lot of them but for some reason, she captured my interest.

Connor followed my gaze. “I don’t know. I haven’t seen her around before. Cute, though.”

Even from afar, I knew that was an understatement. She was bloody gorgeous. She was dancing in the middle of the dance floor on her own. Her arms were over her head as she let loose. I couldn’t spot any friends of hers near her, but enough males eyed her lustfully. My Beta nudged me.

“Go dance with her before someone else snatches her up.”

I didn’t answer. I just chugged down my whiskey and made my way over to the dance floor. I pushed myself through the throng of people, almost growling and snarling at them when they didn’t move fast enough. When I finally reached the spot she was in, she was gone. I looked around but couldn’t spot her. I glanced at my friends who were all laughing. Connor nudged his head to the bar with a grin. There she was, leaning over the counter to talk to the bartender, her dress rising closer to her ass, showing a bit too much to my liking. I flipped off my laughing friends as I pushed my way through the throng of people again.

I leaned against the counter next to her and saw her smiling at the bartender, Oliver, who handed her a drink with a wink. My wolf growled a little, but I pushed him back. Now that I was close, I breathed in deep. Because maybe she was my mate and that’s why I was so transfixed by her. But I didn’t know what I smelled. Something was blocking her scent and not just because of the perfume she wore or all the other hundreds of people in the club. But still, my heart raced from being so close to her.

I waved to the bartender, who nodded and brought over my usual. “It comes in handy if you know the owner of the club,” I said to her with a smirk as I bent the truth a little. I didn’t know the owner; I was the owner.

She turned to me slowly. Her icy blue eyes seemed like they burned through my skin, my mind and my soul. Fuck, that was such a turn-on. And that was before I saw her plump pink lips. My pants suddenly became tighter behind my zipper.

“Congratulations.” She said, not sounding impressed. Alright, so maybe she wasn’t the type of woman I could impress like that. She gave me a once-over before looking back at her drink.

“I saw you dance earlier.” I tried again. “You seemed a little lonely.” I held out my hand. “Dance with me.”

Her icy blue eyes snapped back to him. “Not interested.” She said coolly.

Not interested? Not once had a woman ever said that to me. I was looking at her shocked as she leaned over the counter again to talk to the bartender. Oliver smiled at her, ready to engage in a conversation before he saw me glare or probably heard my growl. He backed off quickly.

“Why not?” I demanded, dropping my hand to my side and clenching my fist.

She narrowed her eyes at me. And Stubbe be damned if that look didn’t go straight to my cock. “I don’t do alpha-assholes.” She said before striding away.

I stared after her. This had never happened to me, and I meant never. And alpha-assholes? She couldn’t know who I was, could she? I mean, the Muggles and Werewolves have been living next to each other in harmony for the past few decades, but the Shadow Pack was private. Almost no one knew a pack of wolves resided so closely to them. And we like to keep it that way. All my employees at the club were members of my pack. From the bodyguards to the toilet man but it wasn’t public knowledge.

Maybe she just said it because of my behaviour. First showing off, which like 98% of the time worked on the usual women I approached or approached me. My dashing, charming smile failed as well. But when I asked – or rather demanded her to dance with me, she rejected me flat out.

I turned back to look at my friends in the private booth, they all looked as shocked as me. Shaking my head, I ordered another drink. By the time I was finished with it, I saw her again. She was leaning against the wall, a male pressed against her as they kissed. I growled and the glasses on the counter shook with it. Oliver came up right next to me.

“Alpha Asher.” He murmured.

“I’m fine,” I said, waving off his concerns and I controlled my temper. I saw how she intertwined her hand with his and pulled the male out of the club. I signalled Oliver for another drink and downed it in one go. A few girls, a few years younger than me, were watching me and I shot them a wink. I wasn’t surprised when one of the girls stepped closer.

“I’ve been watching you tonight.” She said, placing a hand on my chest.

“Is that so?” I cocked an eyebrow. “And did you like what you saw?”

She stood on her toes, brushing her lips against mine. “Very much so.”

And I kissed her. She wrapped her arms around my neck as I pushed my tongue into her mouth. Anything to help me forget about the only woman who had ever rejected me.

Well, that didn’t work. Almost two months later she was still on my mind. I asked Oliver to keep a look out at the club in case she came back a night I wasn’t there. But she never showed up again. It didn’t help my mood at all, even my friends backed off for a bit. Why couldn’t I forget about a woman I barely spoken to?
