Chapter 1

Johnny Carson was a cop in the city, patrolling the streets every day with his trusty colleague Mitchell Barsto by his side. They were a dynamic duo, always ready to tackle any case that came their way.

One evening, as they parked their police car under a tree, the walkie-talkie crackled to life with a report of a murder on Lincoln Street. A man had been killed by his own dog in the front yard of his house. Johnny and Mitchell wasted no time in rushing to the crime scene.

As they arrived, they were met with a gruesome sight - the man’s lifeless body lying on the grass, blood staining the ground. Mitchell quickly cleared the area of onlookers while Johnny carefully examined the surroundings for any clues.

Following a trail of blood droplets, Johnny led Mitchell to the backyard. It was there that they made a shocking discovery - a thirteen-year-old boy locked in a dog cage, holding a knife covered in blood. The boy burst into tears as Johnny approached him, confessing that he had killed his abusive father.

Johnny’s heart went out to the boy, understanding the pain and trauma he must have endured. He gently took the knife from the boy’s trembling hands and comforted him, promising to help him through the legal process.

After rescuing the boy and ensuring his safety, Johnny couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that lingered in the air. He remembered another case he had heard about, a dog on the northern side of Lincoln Street who had killed its owner. Curious, he inquired about the dog’s situation and learned that it too had been abused by its owner.

That night, Johnny was plagued by a haunting nightmare. In his dream, he saw two cages - one holding the boy, tears streaming down his face, and the other holding the dog, howling in pain. The image stayed with him, driving him to take action.

The next morning, Johnny sought out a lawyer to help him navigate the legal system and ensure that both the boy and the dog were given the care and protection they deserved. He was determined to see justice served and to make sure that no more lives were lost to abuse and neglect.

As he reflected on the events of the past day, Johnny knew that his job as a cop was more than just solving crimes - it was about making a difference in the lives of those who needed help the most. And with that thought in mind, he set out to continue his mission of serving and protecting the city he loved.
