Zola stood at the edge of the small town she used to call home the familiar streets now feels like a distance memory. At 25, she’d thought she would be much further on stage, in the spotlight, her voice and dance moves captivate the crowds. But life had a way of derailing plans, after the end of a relationship she couldn’t bring herself to talk about; the bruises were gone but the memories lingered. Zola found herself back where it all started, hiding behind her family’s love and the comfort of her hometown. She was back and had no choice but to face the wreckage of her life alone. But the truth was she was trying to piece together what came next, dancing has always been her escape, singing her salvation. Now even those didn’t feel enough but with every step the pressure to be more, to be better built up inside of her; but will distractions get in the way of it all?
Nasir
At 26 Nasir had mostly everything he has dreamt of, the money which he feels he could make more of, the success, the house, the cars, the jewelry, the respect in the streets but most of all his daughter. Of course he never envisioned it the way it played out because he had always wanted the person to have his first child to be the love of his life but some dreams are just what it’s called a dream. Losing his best friend has cracked open a part of him he didn’t know was broken, the weight of his loss pressed on him in ways he couldn’t explain. Even when he pours himself into his music trying to make sense of a world that no longer felt certain. Life hadn’t been the same neither was he, his daughter’s laughters helped but just wasn’t enough to quiet the storm inside. Outgoing and full of life, he seemed to have everything. But inside he’s torn between his loyalty and the ever-growing distance between who he was and who he wanted to be.
