Prologue
UNKNOWN POV
When people ask me "why do you always keep an expressionless face?", I tell them "I was born that way", but they all look at me with either hatred, pity or with mockery.
Alexithymia: the inability to feel or show emotions. That was what I was diagnosed with.
Saturday 23rd May, 3005. XXX clinicals. I was born on a reception bench unlike normal children who were born inside a delivery room, but that was not all, I did not shed a single tear when I was born neither did I make a single noise. My parents who were worried at first, looked at me with disgust. 'why me... why didn't my child cry?' They thought. The doctor looked at me for sometime before covering my frail body with a cloth.
"Could we go ahead and check the second gender characteristic of your son?" The doctor asked.
Both my parents agreed as though they knew they knew what the outcome would be. As the doctor caried me away into a random room... 'is that child ours?' My parents began to doubt each other before coming to a conclusion that I was an 'anomaly'.
The doctor began to ran tests on me but I slept through it all only to wake up in the back seat of the car. Hungry but unable to cry, I was kept awake till we all reached home.
"Phillip... what about him?... what should we do?" My mother asked.
Knowing fully well that I was not given a name, I answered basically anything they called me. I came to a home where I had four older siblings, even number of boys and girls.
"What did the doctor say about him...?" Mother asked.
"He's Beta..." Father said.
My mother dropped me in a dust filled cradle before leaving the room. Hungry and tired, I slept off until suddenly I felt something in my mouth, liquid flowing inside, cold without an ounce of warmth but I drank it happily with the mindset 'mommy's milk' but that was until the bitter truth was revealed.
"Sandra, what are you feeding the baby?' I heard one of my brothers ask.
"Well, since mom said she didn't want feed him her milk, she told me to milk the goats and feed him but I forgot to cook the milk.. I'll cook it next time" she said.
My eyes shot open, sudden bitterness began to fill my little heart.
*clack*
All my siblings were present in the room along with me. Looking at me with disgust and mockery.
"Father said he doesn't look like us at all" My second sister said.
"it's true... he looks like an ogre... *giggles*.."she said.
"It makes you the sister to an ogre" The eldest said.
Going with the title 'eldest' my elder brother; Josh was reasonable but he was no different. No matter how inert his hatred towards me was, I could still see it and I was just a baby.
