Chapter 1

They were rowing. All three boats were rowing, one behind the other. The waves crashing upon the finely made wood, just built for this kind of situation. The older ones were rowing while the younger ones were looking out in terror, hoping that they would not drown like people from the news.

Their arms were tired, their eyes were aching, no land was in sight. Their lips were parched, their stomachs were rumbling so much that there was a deep pain inside. The rowers were looking everywhere for just a sight of land. Time was completely unknown to them; they did not even know what time zone they were in.

“I’m hungry.” One of the little ones muttered as he rubbed his eyes which had dark circles under them.

None of them could comfort him, give him even a drop of water, a morsel of food. They could not make him drink the sea, the salt inside was more than a portion of fries. It will only add to his suffering.

The sun was aching across their backs, they wanted to stop, and just give up, be part of the sea. But then, one of the girls noticed a hazy shadow in the distance.

“I think I see land.” She called the other rowers who were just on the verge of giving up. They all jumped as then they too could see the beginnings of an island. Their hearts leapt as a sudden strength fueled upon them as they were determined to get onto that island.

Everyone’s eyes then lit up as the boat landed upon a sandy beach. They had not seen the land for days and they were relieved that they could finally feel the land upon their feet, so unlike the boats they stayed upon.

The girl that found the island trenched though the acers of long grass, looking at all the fruit bearing, the fish swimming inside a lake, cleansed of salt. Her long hair was tangled up within some of the leaves, but she managed to shake it off, involving a sacrifice with her Alice band. Her heart swelled with pride at what she had just discovered. She just couldn’t believe her luck.

It looked so heavenly, she thought, that she must have dreamt it. But that would mean that the boat sinking, her parents that had perished, would have just been an awful nightmare. She hadn’t slept since the disaster.

She then heard the sound of a trumpet blowing, rather badly. She thought that it would be better to just follow the sound, in case she got lost. She then trudged over and could see a crowd of fifty, at least, maybe even more gathered around as she then saw a boy, of around twelve, with an unpimpled face and rather tanned skin, his mouth holding upon a trumpet-like shell. His lips then parted from it as he then looked around at the faces he saw.

He then jumped down from the rock like a movie star making some of the girls wonder if they were about to faint. He flicked his hair back as he then said, in a rather posh British accent,

“Is that everyone? Seems that we have ourselves a bit of a crowd? Right then, I call this meeting to order.”

He then put his hands upon his hips as he made the children sit on their designated rocks, with the exception of the smallest children sitting on the sand. They didn’t seem at all bothered by the meeting and started to fiddle with the sand. The British boy then dusted his hands as he then said,

“Right, as the majority of you realize, we’re trapped upon this island until the adults come along and pick us up so how are we going to survive here?”

The girl then put her hand up, desperate to tell. The boy then nodded at her. She then took a deep breath as she then said,

“I saw fruit, in a couple of trees, some fish inside a fresh lake, do you want me to show you?”

But before the boy could answer, the others were clamoring for her to show it to them. She then retraced her steps as she then showed it to them. Everyone was in awe as they rushed over to get some much-needed liquid. The boy was standing by the girl, seemingly impressed as he then said,

“Well at least we won’t starve but what are we going to do for shelter?”

The girl then sighed as she then shrugged. She had only just discovered it when the shell was heard. The boy then nodded as he then said,

“We’ll explore the island some more and see if there is any shelter. Anyway, I’m William Brown, not that my last name will be of any use around here.”

The girl then nodded as she then said, “That’s a promising idea William, I’m Coral Shelter by the way. I’ll go and explore the island some more and then report back to you.”

And Coral went off to do a bit more of her exploring.
