Chapter 1: The flicking light

One freezing winter morning, at exactly 7 am. Anna laid wrapped in lays of blankets, shivering from the cold air that seeped into her room. Her golden-brown necklace, adorned with a delicate angel wings, rested quietly on her nightstand. As Anna turned to check on it—manly to make sure her mischievous younger brother, Mark, hadn’t taken anything—then suddenly something unexpected, unusual and mysterious thing just happened. A faint, flickering light pulsed from the necklace.

Anna’s heart skipped a beat, necklaces weren’t supposed to glow...

Her curious, concerned expression deepened as she sat up slowly, her breath visible in the chilly air. Without much thought about what might happen, she slid out of bed, still wrapped in her warm, fluffy, and soft pajamas. She stepped cautiously and slowly towards the nightstand. Her fingers trembled slightly—not from the cold, but from anticipation—as she reached for the necklace.

A soft yellow glowing radiation from the angel wings in the necklace, casting a dim light against the wooden surface of the nightstand.

Anna stared, amazed and silently afraid. Was it broken?, was it magical?, what was making it glow?.

Just as she was about to examine it further, her bedroom door burst open.

“BREAKFAST IS READY!” Mark’s voice rang through the door like a siren.

Anna yelped, flinched so hard that she nearly jumped into the air like a startled grasshopper. The necklace slipped from her grasp, landing on the floor with a soft clink.

She turned to her young brother, who was grinning ear to ear.

“Mark!” She huffed, more annoyed than actually angry. “Could you not scream in my face?”

Mark giggled “he-he, but that was funny though, you jumped like a grasshopper!” He clutched his stomach, laughing.

Before Anna could say anything else, their mother’s voice called up from the kitchen.

“Breakfast is ready, kids! Come before it gets cold!”

Mark didn’t waste a second. With boundless energy, he bolted down the stairs, calling, “coming mom!”

Anna sighed, shaking her head, but following him downstairs, completely forgetting about the mysterious, glowing necklace still lying on her bedroom floor.
