Chapter 1: How it all began
- Date of the accident: April, 12, {????}
- Setting: The backyard
“Why did it have to be like this?”
It was a sunny, warm and fresh day with the Rodriguez family, the air was clean and breathable but it was also a perfect day to play some Hide and Seek with both Marcus and Melanie. But this day was different from the rest of them, this day was there last day to play...
“I won!”
Those day’s why me and my dad played were the best days of my life, I was only 7 when the accident happened. My life was Perfect when I was a child.
Some of those days were sad or depressing but my dad would always find a way to make me happy......
My dad was always had his perfect ways to play hide and seek, and they were always the best ones!. But when the accident happed in April, 12, {????}, it all changed. It just reminded us of the accident.
When my dad saw me on the road, laid flat and bleeding to D3@T#, he rushed towards me with tears in his eyes. I was almost about to D!3 but when his group called “The Crazz gang” came it felt like if D3@T# was not close.
One of the crew members named “Mark”, one of the oldest and strongest right before my dad. Came in a rushing speed, he grabbed his phone and called for a nearby taxi to pick us up and go to hospital. Meanwhile Oliver, Maya and Mia carried me while we waited for a taxi, meanwhile my dad was crying, he looked devastated and upset that he couldn’t save me in time.
After a long trip to the hospital, Mark said that the money was on the house and that he will pay for the taxi ride. Now in the hospital some nurses noticed my “very, VERY bad condition” and quickly ran towards us who were in the entrance in the hospital. One of the nurses named Rebecca came running towards us to see what happened. My dad had to explain because he was the one who witness this catastrophe.
After the whole catastrophic explanation my dad gave, the nurses took me for ” immediate medical treatment” one of the other nurses named Mary came and said that we need to wait here until one of both the nurse or the doc come. So my dad and his group wait, wait and wait for around 12 hours straight, maybe they were fixing my stomach or something?.
One of the doctors finally came to say some news after what sounded to be forever, she said that I need some rest after what happened. She also said that only 1 person can come into the room. So my dad decided to come into the room, he looked concerned, relieved and happy that I was ok. Meanwhile mark was sleeping in Maya’s shoulder, Oliver was on his phone, and Mia was reading a magazine that was in one of the magazines baskets in the table.
When my dad entered my room which was the Room 309, my dad was relieved that I was out of danger, but I was still sleeping/coma and need a little bit of rest, my dad grabbed a nearby chair and sat next to me. There were wires and hospital machines that were beeping and beeping. My dad meanwhile was stroking my head with his big thumb, while saying the words
“Oh sweetheart, everything is going to be ok, daddy’s here for you and always...” the last part was silent and whispered.
My dad was also crying, he was really sad but also happy that I was ok, he didn’t want to lose me like he lost his old daughter.... He never wanted that.... I could feel his voice shaking, he looked scared, relieved, happy and upset, he cried again while saying
“Everything is going to be alright honey, I’m here... and I love you..” *tearing up and crying more*
I just wanted to wake up and go hug my dad and tell him that I am alright and in good health, but I can’t because I am dead sleep and can’t wake up.
This just didn’t feel right....
Moments later I woke up from my long sleep/coma, my dad was happy that I was awake and ok, he spelt out happy tears and said
“Oh sweetie your wake, how do you feel?, are you ok sweetheart?” *he said with happy tears, still acting like everything is fine but it’s not*
I couldn’t respond asap, I was still trying to get my head around after what happened, I could and yes say something to my concerned dad but I just couldn’t, it’s like if my voice disappear or something. I had to get myself to talk, to at least say something and make him not concerned anymore....
“D-dad?” *in a shaky, scared and tired tone*
My dad was relieved that I was awake and talking, he gently moved the chair a little closer to my side and then gently put his hand to my forehead rubbing my head gently, and then kissed me while saying
“Thank god you’re still alive my sweetheart, how are you feeling?”
“Why...- why is everything shaky?” *in a shaky, tired and confused tone*
My dad quickly arrushed me that everything was ok, and that I am ok and that everything is over while saying
“Sweetheart, everything is ok, don’t worry. Not after you got into a horrible and dangerous accident!” *saying in a arrushed and a little fast tone*
“Wha-... what happened?” *in a confused tone of voice*
And then he again arrushed me again, this time in a more calm, relaxed and a little bit of concerned tone
“Well... um..” *froze*
He then froze, I was still confused and had a little bit of fuzzy eye sight, then he looked at me with a concerned and thinking look, he looked like he didn’t want to say what happened, but he already knew that I was the one who experience this...
He just looked and talked uncomfortably, almost like if he didn’t want to talk about what just happened to me. So he decided to change the question a little bit.
“Do you remember anything, sweetheart?. Anything at all before you woke up here?” *he asked softly, his voice trembling slightly as he tried to smile through his worries.”
I tried to think but my head felt heavy, like trying to remember a dream slipping through my fingers. My vision was still a little blurry/cloudy, and the beeping from the machines felt a little too loud. But the piece began to come back, flashes of laughter in the backyard , me shouting “I won!“. The warm sun on my skin and the sounds of tires screeching. My chest tightened as a sharp, fuzzy image hit me... My dad screaming my name.
“I...- I think I was in the backyard, playing... and then..-” *I trailed off, my voice shaking as the memories felt too close, too real*
My dad’s face tensed up, he reached for my hand, holding it tightly as if to anchor me.
“It’s okay, you don’t have to push yourself right now.” *he said quickly, but I could tell he was bracing himself for what I might remember.*
“No, dad.... I-... I think I ran to the street..” *I hesitated, tears welling my eyes up as the blurry memory of headlight flooded my mind.*
“Did I get hit by a car?”
My dad’s grip on my hand tightened. He nodded, his jaw clenched as he tried to keep himself steady.
“Yes sweetheart.” He whispered. ” it was an accident... and I couldn’t safe you in time...” *tearing up even more* “I am so sorry baby... I should have been more faster... I should have...” *that last part was whispered again*
His voice cracked and for a moment of time, I didn’t know what to say, seeing my dad cry hurt more than any of the pain I felt..
“It wasn’t your fault, dad..” *I said softly, my voice shaking but firm. I squeezed him hand as much as my weak fingers would ever allow. “I just happened, but I am okay... now, right?, did the doctor say that I was alright?”
He wiped his tears quickly, trying to look strong for me.
“Yes” *he said, nodding as a faint, hopeful smile appeared on his face. “They said you’ll need time to heal, but you’re strong, you’re going to be alright, sweetheart. I promise.”
Even though I was tired and weak, I felt a strange comfort in his words, like I wasn’t alone. My dad’s grip stayed by my side, holding my hand and stroking my forehead like he always did when I was scared.
For the first time since waking up, I felt safe again...
