Andie

SNAP!

He missed her. Andie had come so close to dying, it was all she could do not to scream. Instead, she sobbed, begging Matthew to put down the bear trap he had now gathered back up in his hands.

“Matthew, Matthew, please! Put down the trap. Put down the trap and we can talk,” she pleaded, but to her terror, she was met with the sickening glare of her now ex-boyfriends sunken eyes.

Matthew didn’t want to listen. He was too focused, too determined to finish what he’d started. All the hate he’d felt that day so long ago was flooding back. He needed Andie gone, and now, and even she could see that.

“Why are you here, Miranda?” he demanded, trying to force the trap back open, keeping his eye on her. She didn’t speak, she couldn’t, she was too consumed by her fear. What was she doing? She should be running, but something stopped her. Guilt? Shock?

She’d thought he was dead. Everybody in Lost Lake had. He’d been pushed from the top of the lighthouse sixteen years ago and fell to his death. How was he standing here now? Andie felt dizzy. Her entire world was spinning, spiraling out of control, and she felt sick.

“Matthew,” she hesitated before saying, “I- I thought I killed you.”
