Chapter 1 A Talking Titan and a Warning

In a moment heavily shadowed by tension and urgency, Luz gasped as she witnessed the effects of Belos’s possession on Papa Titan. The titan, displaying a flicker of vulnerability, managed to exclaim, “Ah, dang. I thought I had more time left. But Belos will have full control soon... You ready to stop him?” His voice resonated with wisdom and urgency, prompting Luz to question her ability to take action, “What? What can I do?”

Papa Titan, understanding the gravity of the situation, reassured her, “You’ve already helped King so much. So let me use my last bit of life to help you.” With that, the titan stretched forth his hand, revealing a constellation of glyphs that shimmered in the air, symbolizing lost power and opportunities. Struggling with the gravity of the moment, Luz hesitated, asking, “Are you sure you wanna give this power to me?” His response was poignant and clear: “You’re the one here, and you seem like a good witch. But I can’t give you anything unless you choose to accept it. So the question is, will you choose yourself?”

With determination surging through her, Luz took hold of his hand, and a brilliant golden orb enveloped her, lifting her gently off the ground as she began to float upward. “Now, Belos will be able to control everything, so you have to defeat him fast,” Papa Titan instructed, understanding the urgency imposed by their dire circumstances. Despite her resolve, doubts crept into Luz’s mind, as she voiced, “But—” yet was quickly interrupted by the titan’s firm reminder, “My power won’t last forever, so use your time wisely.”

Luz’s heart tightened as she thought of King, pleading, “Oh, but what about—” Before she could finish, Papa Titan saluted wistfully, “Eda the Owl Lady? Send her my regards, big fan.” In a moment of desperation, Luz reached out and wrapped her fingers around Papa Titan’s claw, desperately trying to anchor herself amid the ascendance. After a brief hesitation, Papa Titan whispered something into her ear, and her expression lit up with excitement. “Oh. He’ll love that,” she chuckled, momentarily forgetting the weight of the situation.

As the titan accepted his fate, he transformed into his larger form, slowly sinking into the depths of the water, his body gradually disappearing from sight. With a lingering sense of loss, he offered a heartfelt farewell, “Goodbye, Luz.” In that instant, Luz stood at a pivotal crossroads—nurtured by his sacrifice, compelled to embody his strength, and driven with renewed determination to face the ominous threat of Belos. The echoes of their exchange fortified her spirit, echoing the weight of legacy and the strength borne of connection as she prepared for the battles that lay ahead.

In the vast expanse of the space In-Between, Luz began to regain consciousness, her senses flickering back to life. A radiant light spell manifested on her hand, illuminating the area around her, and as she looked down, she noticed a patch of Titan fur adorning her arm. Curiosity piqued, she observed the glowing light glyph hovering above her, prompting her to sit up on a cube nearby. It was then that she caught a glimpse of her reflection, one eye resembling that of a Titan, sending her heart racing. Startled and in shock, she gasped loudly, lost her balance off the cube, and fell face-first into the dark water beneath her.

Jerking upright, disoriented, Luz cried out, “What just happened? Where are Amity and King? Eda? They were with me!” In the midst of her panic, a familiar voice called out warmly from offscreen, “Luz? Is that you?” Luz froze, the recognition washing over her as she realized, “Wait... I know that voice.” Turning around, she spotted a hand reaching out towards her. Hesitating for a brief moment, her instincts kicked in, and she grasped the hand, allowing Papa Titan to help her to her feet.

“Papa Titan? I thought you were gone for good! I can’t believe you’re here.” Luz stammered, her brow furrowing in confusion. He replied, “Well... yes and no,” inviting further questions.“What do you mean by that? I need a clearer explanation.” she challenged, with a hint of frustration. Pointing to her glowing hand, Papa Titan explained, “See that light glyph there?” Luz tilted her head, puzzled. “What light glyph?” she asked, only to notice the gentle glow pulsating from her palm. “”Oh, that glyph! It’s from the light spell King taught me during my Kingceañera—he really has a knack for humor.” A smile spread across Papa Titan’s face, filled with pride. “I can see how proud you are of King. It’s amazing to see him take on responsibilities like teaching you magic,” he mused, momentarily teary-eyed. So, as long as I have this glyph, we can communicate anytime, even across distances. That’s reassuring.”

Grinning at the absurdity, Luz quipped, “So, glyphs are like Titan Wi-Fi, huh? And ghost communication? Does this mean I can reach out to the other side whenever I want?” Laughing, Papa Titan confirmed, “You got it. But this isn’t just a social call, Luz. I’m here because there’s trouble. Big trouble. And it’s heading straight for King and the Collector.” A wave of seriousness washed over Luz as she demanded, “Wait—what do you mean? What kind of trouble? Who’s putting King in danger?” With a grave tone, Papa Titan shared the dire news, “The Titan Trappers. They didn’t all go down with the Boiling Sea. Some have survived, and they’re seeking revenge. They hold the Collector responsible for thwarting their plans to sacrifice King to resurrect the Grand Huntsman.”

Panic surged through her, and Luz stammered, “Sacrificing King?! No, no, no. They’re not touching him! He’s been through enough already!” Papa Titan’s expression turned serious, “Time’s running out, Luz. King’s in real danger. And you’re the only one who can warn him.” Taking a moment to collect her thoughts, Luz paused, conflicted. “I need to tell him, but... I don’t want to freak him out. He’s finally starting to feel safe again.” The weight of their conversation settled heavily in the air as Luz wavered between urgency and the hope that King’s newfound sense of security would not shatter amidst the impending danger.

“Smart,” he began, nodding gently, “but warning him isn’t enough. There are deeper secrets of Titan magic you must learn. If you wish to protect him, Luz, you will need to master your full Titan form.” His words hung in the air, heavy with meaning. Luz clenched her fists, her resolve shimmering like a flicker of a flame. “And when I get it back? What happens then?” she inquired, her voice steady yet laced with anticipation.

Papa Titan smiled wistfully, his gaze piercing through the ethereal realm they inhabited. “When you do, I’ll finally be able to appear. For the first time, I will see my boy in person. You will bring a part of me back, Luz.” A warm smile crept upon Luz’s face, her determination momentarily softened, but before she could articulate her gratitude, Papa Titan’s essence began to fade. Familiar voices echoed faintly in the background, growing louder until Amity’s call broke through the haze. “Luz! Luz, wake up!”

As Papa Titan’s form dissolved into the light, his final words echoed softly in Luz’s mind: “Take care of him, Luz... take care of my son for me.” In a sudden jolt, Luz’s eyes snapped open in her classroom of Curses 101 at the University of Wild Magic. Blinking groggily, she registered Eda standing before her, lightly tapping the desk.

“Wake up, kid! You’re gonna miss the fun of actually learning to handle curses instead of just winging it like usual,” Eda teased. Startled, Luz sat up straight, embarrassment washing over her. “Gah! Sorry, Eda! Guess I dozed off... College is way tougher than I thought.”

Amity approached with a warm, familiar smile, genuine affection evident in her demeanor. “If you want, I can help, Batata. I’ve gotten pretty good at Curses 101... thanks to you.” Grinning sleepily, Luz felt the warmth of Amity’s presence coaxing her back into the day. “Aww, thanks, Hermosa. You’re the best,” she replied, leaning against Amity’s shoulder for a brief moment of solace.

With a teasing nudge, Amity gently brushed a strand of hair behind Luz’s ear. “Come on, sleepyhead. Let’s get some fresh air before Eda curses you herself.”

“Fair point. Lead the way, Hermosa.”

As Amity guided Luz towards the door, Eda watched them go with an amused grin, her arms crossed and a knowing sparkle in her eye. “Ah, young love... adorable, yet somehow nauseating,” she mumbled to herself, shaking her head in jest. “I should probably check on King. Don’t want the little guy thinking he’s been forgotten.”

With that, Eda exited the classroom humming a light tune, the atmosphere brightening as the scene faded to black.

Meanwhile, within the cozy confines of the Owl Treehouse, King carefully carved a glyph onto the floor with a dagger, a determined glint in his eyes. Surrounding him were his beloved stuffed animals—those that resembled demons, family members, and even marine creatures—each lovingly crafted by Hunter, watching his every move with an almost reverent demeanor.

At last, King unveiled the fire glyph he had completed, his heart swelling with pride as he prepared to unleash its magic. With a flourish, he smacked the glyph, setting off a burst of flames that flickered to life. “Behold! I, King Clawthorne, have unlocked the secrets of the arcane arts with the Fire Glyph! Bask in my genius!” he declared triumphantly as a plush Collector tumbled onto plush versions of King, a whale, and a bat, each spark igniting his imaginative spirit.

In this realm of magic, bonds, and determination, it was clear that every character undertook a journey as vibrant as the flames King’s glyph had conjured.

The atmosphere in King’s room was thick with the scent of smoke and anxiety. After accidentally setting off a small fire while experimenting with his newly discovered fire glyph, King found himself feeling deflated and alone amidst the chaos. “Huh, it’s no fun if they don’t clap,” he sighed, plopping onto the floor. Thoughts of his older hermana Luz and Gus filled his mind as he lamented, “I don’t like being alone all the time.” Just then, Hooty slithered into the room, brimming with enthusiasm.

“I could be your brother!” Hooty exclaimed cheerfully, but King recoiled in horror. “Ew! No! Get out of here, Hooty!” he retorted, dismayed by the thought. With Hooty quickly retreating, King’s scroll buzzed to life, bringing a smile to his face when he saw Eda’s message: “Are you okay, kiddo?” Typing with great difficulty due to his claws, he responded, “YEAH, I’M FINE! EVERYTHING IS OKAY! DANG CLAWS, WHY IS IT SO HARD TO TYPE?!” Eda’s reply reassured him, “I’ll get you your own scroll someday kiddo. For now, I’m just glad Raine let you borrow theirs.”

The smell of smoke soon pulled his attention back, and panic set in as the fire alarm blared. His eyes glowed purple in distress. “Mom’s gonna kill me! MOM’S GONNA KILL ME!” he squealed, grabbing a fire extinguisher to combat the flames that began to spread. In a moment of desperation, he stopped to think, “Wait! There’s gotta be a spell for this, right?” Realizing he felt hopeless, he lamented, “Who am I kidding? I’m toast.” Just then, a familiar voice cut through his despair: Never fear, hermano, I’m here to save the day!”

King turned to see Luz and Amity rushing in, Amity deploying an abomination fire extinguisher while Luz commanded Stringbean, who spat out foam to extinguish the last of the flames. To King’s delight, they quickly put out the fire. “Yes! Yes! Hermana! We did it!” he cheered, laughter spilling from him like a remedy for his earlier stress. However, as the humor faded, concern settled in. “Phew, crisis averted. After putting out the flames, Luz panted slightly, her excitement evident. “We did it! Yes! But seriously, King, what on earth happened here? You struck me as someone who had it all under control.”

With nervous fidgets and wide eyes, he sheepishly admitted, “Um, well, you see, hermana, I-I-I may or may not have caused a fire by discovering a fire glyph that accidentally burnt down the entire treehouse. Please don’t tell Mom!“Stringbean’s shock was evident as she hissed and gazed up at Luz in disbelief.

“You did what?!” Luz nearly shouted, her eyes widening with astonishment. “I mean, discovering a brand new glyph is seriously amazing, hermano, but... WHAT?! How did that even happen?”

Her expression shifted to a mix of excitement and concern, and she was clearly baffled by the implications of King’s revelation. Ghost, unimpressed, hopped onto Amity, meowing in disapproval.

Amity, calm and collected, placed a reassuring hand on King’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, King. Your secret’s safe with us. Wait—you said a new glyph? That’s amazing! I’ll grab my journal!” With that, she rushed out of the room. King felt a wave of relief wash over him, and in a burst of joy, he leapt into Luz’s arms. “I’m so happy to see you!” “Hermano!” Luz responded, hugging him tightly as Stringbean affectionately wrapped herself around him.

“How’s college, hermana? ¿Es aburrido?” King asked, his excitement bubbling over.

Luz let out a tired chuckle, shaking her head slightly. “Honestly, it’s exhausting, but once you get the hang of it, it can be kind of fun,” she replied, a hint of warmth in her voice.

Her curiosity piqued as she turned to King, genuinely interested. “So, how’s your glyph discovery coming along? Any breakthroughs or surprises?“King beamed with enthusiasm. “Oh! I’ve got another one to show you! It’s even cooler than the first. Aumentará el calor.” Luz smiled faintly but soon swayed dramatically before flopping onto the floor. “Oof.” Panic set in for King, his heart racing as he exclaimed, “Luz! Is she okay?! She’s not dead, right?! Hermana? Hermana!” He shook her frantically, echoing his concern and love in every plea.

In the cozy and somewhat chaotic atmosphere of the Owl Treehouse, King sat on the couch, clutching his treasured Collector plushie tightly. The weight of loneliness hung heavily in his small frame as he watched Luz and Amity’s intimate exchange from a distance. Amity had just returned, her journal in hand, assuring King that Luz was exhausted from her college work.

Luz, in her half-conscious state, mumbled sweet nothings in Spanish, referring to Amity as her “cotton candy-haired goddess.” Amity, visibly flustered by Luz’s affection, leaned in to kiss her cheek, which made King pout in frustration at feeling overlooked. In an earnest tone, he voiced his feelings to the plushie beside him, “Do you ever feel left out sometimes? I know you do, but I wish you were here with me.” His sigh echoed softly in the room, a reflection of his growing loneliness.

King continued, “I support Luz and Amity spending time together, but what about me? I want to be acknowledged for my achievements too. Mom’s busy with college, Luz and Amity are always doing their own thing, and Collector only visits every three weeks.” He griped about the solitude, feeling as if no one was paying attention to him again, which brought a dull ache to his heart.

Just then, Lilith appeared off-screen, her voice gentle yet firm. “Well, I certainly do, nephew.” King jumped slightly at her unexpected presence, quickly turning to face her with a mix of surprise and relief. “Aunt Lilith?! When did you get here?” he asked, a hint of curiosity bordering on eagerness in his voice.

Lilith smiled softly, sensing his struggle. “Long enough to hear your worries, dear nephew. What’s troubling you?” Her palisman, Mike Socks, tilted its head at King, echoing her curiosity.

King’s expression shifted, revealing his vulnerability as he spoke about feeling neglected amidst the busyness of those around him. “Everyone is so busy. It’s like no one notices my achievements. I just... I want to feel recognized. I hate feeling so alone.” His voiced concerns resonated with the warmth of family love, even in such lonely times.

“Oh, King, I understand more than you think,” Lilith replied thoughtfully, patting King gently on the head. “I once sought my mother’s approval by constantly trying to outdo others. But seeking validation can be exhausting. You’re not alone in this. Your magical abilities are truly exceptional, and despite the, uh, treehouse incident, they deserve recognition. I’m incredibly proud of you.”

King’s eyes glistened with unshed tears, touched by his aunt’s words. “Gracias, Aunt Lilith. It even... reminds me of Dad,” he sniffed, wiping away his embarrassment.

Lilith comforted him further, “It’s okay to let it out. Why haven’t you told Luz or anyone else how you feel?” Her inquiry was gentle yet prodded at the heart of King’s worries.

“I don’t want to ruin their lives by making everything about me,” he confessed, his voice barely a whisper as he gazed down at his plushie.

Lilith paused for a moment before responding, emphasizing warmth in her tone. “Oh, King. It’s not selfish to share your feelings, especially with family. We love you, and care about what you’re going through.”

Grateful and reassured, King nodded, “Thanks, Aunt Lilith. I’ll try to remember that.”

As their moment of heartfelt connection concluded, the scene transitioned to the In-Between Realm, where Luz began to awaken on a floating block. The calm yet serious presence of Papa Titan approached her, his large and glowing form embodying both warmth and authority.

“P.T.? Is everything okay?” Luz asked, her brow furrowing with worry. “Are the Titan Trappers coming for King?”

With a tranquil yet firm demeanor, Papa Titan replied, “No, Luz. This is a personal matter.” His words hinted at a deeper connection to King and the understanding of family that Luz was soon to discover. In this world of challenges, King’s journey for inclusion in a family he adored and a sense of recognition became a poignant thread woven through their intertwined lives.

The scene shifted back to Papa Titan, who gestured to a glowing block materializing in front of Luz, displaying King and Lilith deep in conversation. “King has been feeling left out and neglected recently. He yearns for recognition for his accomplishments,” he explained, his tone solemn yet filled with understanding.

As Luz watched the projection, her heart ached

“Oh, King... Is this how he feels? I didn’t realize,” Luz murmured, her voice softening with empathy.

Papa Titan continued to explain, “He doesn’t want to burden you with his feelings. He fears being seen as selfish.”

Absorbing these words, Luz’s resolve strengthened. “But he’s not selfish. He’s my hermano, and I’d never think that,” she asserted, her determination evident as she declared, “I’ll talk to him right away!”

Papa Titan nodded approvingly. “Good. Let him teach you what he’s discovered. It will mean the world to him.” With a grateful smile, Luz responded, “Thanks, Ruler. I’ll make sure he knows how much we care.” The scene then cut back to the cozy but tense atmosphere of the Treehouse Living Room.

King, full of enthusiasm, was eagerly demonstrating how to draw a fire glyph to Lilith when Luz walked in, still a bit groggy but clearly determined. “Hey, King? Can we talk for a moment?” she asked, her voice softening the tension in the air.

King looked up, a mix of surprise and nervousness in his eyes. “Oh, um, sure, Luz. What’s up hermana?” he replied tentatively. With sincere concern, Luz began, “Nothing’s wrong with me, but... are you okay? I heard from someone that you’ve been feeling left out.”

Taking a deep breath, King’s eyes dropped to the floor. “I... I don’t want to ruin your day,” he admitted, his voice nearly a whisper. Luz knelt in front of him, looking directly into his eyes. “You won’t ruin anything, King. It’s okay to tell me how you feel you’re my lil hermano,” she assured him gently.

He swallowed hard before expressing, “I guess... I feel like no one notices me or my achievements anymore. Everyone’s so busy... it’s like I’m invisible.” Hearing this, Luz’s heart sank. “I’m so sorry. We do care about you, hermano. I’ve just been swamped with college and everything else,” she explained earnestly.

Noticing his sadness, Luz quickly added, “But I’ll make time for you, I promise. How about we set aside time each week for you to teach me and the others your new glyphs?” King’s eyes suddenly lit up, hope returning to his demeanor. “Really? You mean it?” he exclaimed, excitement bubbling within him.

“Of course! You’re an amazing teacher, King. I can’t wait to learn from the best,” Luz said, her smile warming the room. In that instant, King lunged forward, embracing her tightly, his tail wagging happily as he exclaimed, “Thanks, Luz. You’re the best big sister ever!”

Luz hugged him back comfortably, her heart swelling with affection. “Aww, you’re welcome, hermano. Us weirdos have to stick together, right?” she teased gently, causing King to grin widely. “Yeah, we’re both weirdos.”

From the side, Lilith watched the heartfelt reunion with pride, her heart filled with warmth as the bond between the siblings deepened—an affirmation that their love and support for one another would always transcend the distractions of life.
