Chapter 1
Akshara Goenka was devastated as her entire world seemed to crumble before her eyes. She never imagined that betrayal could inflict such deep pain. As she aimlessly walked on the road, memories of the moments shared with Abhimanyu flooded her mind, ultimately leading to this heartbreaking situation. He had made a promise to her - a promise that she believed would be kept. He had assured her of his unwavering support, of being there for her and asking for her hand in marriage. He had even promised to stand by her side with his family. But when the time came, he failed to fulfill his promises. He didn't show up, didn't answer her calls. In desperation, she cried, prayed and begged for him to come, but he was nowhere to be found.
What was the source of her wrongdoing? Could it be her love for him? Was it a fault to have such deep trust and be faced with such cruel fate without her knowledge? Was she truly to blame for Abhimanyu's actions towards her? Did she ever harm him to warrant his abandonment during this critical time? Or was he merely a heartless individual who took advantage of her? Perhaps he was a coward who couldn't provide support when it mattered most. A man who prioritized his reputation over the girl he professed to love and even his own child. Her thoughts were filled with countless inquiries, yet she had no answers.
Akshara wept silently, feeling as if even God shared her sadness when the rain started pouring. Her tears were lost among the countless raindrops, but her emotions were powerful enough to move mountains. She longed for Abhimanyu to come to her, apologize for being late, and hold her in his protective embrace like he always did. She yearned for him to take her away and declare their love for each other in front of the whole world.
Love had a dark side, a side of hope that never left the heart no matter how broken it was. And Akshara's heart was no exception. She held onto hope as she walked aimlessly, not knowing where she was going. The thought of her unborn child facing consequences for a mistake they didn't make pained her deeply. Was she a bad mother? When did her life become filled with so many questions?
Akshara recoiled and let out a sharp breath as a man yanked her to the side. Her face contorted with fear and she began to cry uncontrollably. She was in such a fragile state that she could only weep helplessly, hoping the man would release her.
"Sorry. Sorry," the man apologized behind her, and she turned around in confusion to see the angry driver of the car. "Sorry. Thank you for stopping the car in time," the man holding her said to the driver. Akshara's eyes widened as she realized she could have harmed her own child. She felt mentally weak and her sobs grew at the thought of any harm coming to her unborn child.
She heard the car speed away and tried to compose herself. "What were you doing, ma'am?" the man asked as he released her grip on her. "Why were you walking alone on the road? And why do you seem so frail?" he questioned. Akshara remained silent, simply caressing her womb. She attempted to walk away, but the man followed her.
"Ma'am," he called out. "Please listen to me. Where are you going? I can tell you need help. Let me contact your family," he offered, but she ignored him and continued walking ahead.
"Madam, please allow me to assist you. Madam!" He exclaimed as she stumbled and he caught her once again. She flinched and turned to face him, her anger rising. But he too seemed shaken and afraid. She couldn't understand why he was following her and what he wanted from her.
"Why are you pursuing me? What is it that you want?" She shrieked, tears of fury streaming down her cheeks. Her frustration was so intense that she failed to see his genuine intention of helping her. She assumed he would become irritated and leave her to suffer, but he remained steadfast.
"I only want you to be well. I can't leave you alone in this condition," he spoke softly.
"Go away!" she cried, pushing him away in a fit of rage and picking up her pace. She wanted to escape from him, from everyone else. Even her own shadow seemed suffocating at this point. After the immense pain of betrayal from the man she loved and being abandoned by her family, she had lost all trust in anyone. Even her own dreams felt questionable to her now.
However, destiny could be even harsher than imagined. She halted in her tracks upon spotting some intoxicated individuals. Her heart quivered with fear as they approached her. "No," she whispered, clutching her stomach and attempting to walk away, but somehow she found herself encircled by them. She wept in despair as they eyed her with hunger. "Please let me go."
As the group of men chuckled and one of them attempted to make physical contact with her, a swift strike connected with his face. Akshara's expression turned to one of shock and fear. It was Abhinav who had thrown the punch, defending her against the drunkard. He proceeded to engage in a physical altercation with them and eventually they were left in a battered state, fleeing from the scene.
Akshara let out a sigh of relief. "Are you okay?" Abhinav asked, concerned. Overcome with emotion, Akshara began to cry. She was deeply distressed by the events that had just unfolded. Unable to process her thoughts, she wept quietly and kept her head down. She felt alone and helpless, unsure of what she could do in this situation.
Abhinav reassures Akshara that he will always be there for her, no matter how much she tries to push him away. He is determined to stay by her side, especially after the recent incident that could have been a disaster. Akshara, who is still crying, realizes that staying with Abhinav may be the best option for her safety. She decides not to worry about the future and follows him silently.
Abhinav is relieved when she agrees to his help. He leads her towards a bus and tells her it will take them to Pathankot where he can figure out a solution for their situation. He also mentions that since Akshara has not told him about her family, he will have to find a way out on his own.
Akshara is scared but Abhinav assures her to trust him. Despite denying it, she can hear honesty in his voice and decides to board the bus with him. Abhinav helps her find a seat and stands nearby as he knows she will feel uncomfortable sitting next to him.
As the bus starts moving, Akshara wipes her tears again and wonders where her fate will take her next.
