The Astronaut Mermaid
"Alright, this book has a PERFECT writing style. The beauty in it is something I can’t speak highly enough about, and of course, no notes on technical details. The plot has potential, and the world that you created is unique. That said, I do believe there are some issues to be addressed. 1- Characters: You seem to have given the two main characters all the focus here. It’s preferable to have some side characters to keep things interesting, maybe a couple of characters to accompany the two girls. Also, the main characters don’t appear to have much personality. They’re determined, of course, but that seems to be all there is to get. They appear to be static, soulless, one-dimensional characters, which are often discouraged from being used in writing. Try to give them distinctive traits, vulnerabilities, or even hobbies. 2. Pacing: You jumped headfirst into the main plot without offering the readers any context about the world the characters live in. Maybe you can try showing how Lyria interacts with the people of her world. You can show that people find her repulsive due to her fascination with exploration. Same with Kaelen. Moreover, you can take your time setting up Lyria’s mission, showing how she got into the spacecraft, if she gave any farewells, or a little glimpse of how she trained to be an astronaut, which would be a great opportunity to showcase her determination. I don’t find the same problem with Kaelen, which is indeed a positive. 3. Character Interactions: The dynamic between the two main characters is admittedly confusing. Like, try to make their dynamic more interesting. Maybe they act indifferently to each other at first. Maybe they try to know about each other and their respective worlds a bit more. Also, the idea that destiny brings them together is also confusing, and for some reason, the characters seem to be self-aware of that. Why not make them surprised in the slightest to see each other? Why not make them eventually figure out that their destiny is to meet? Overall, this story has the perfect writing style that only needs the perfect plot to complement it. With that done, I could go as far as saying that you’ll have a best-selling novel in the future. P.S: I’m sorry if I upset you. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the book, that’s all, and I’m only here to help you, okay 🙂?"
